DTLA 2022: OUTLOOK & INSIGHTS Downtown LA’s emergence from the COVID-19 pandemic presented the DCBID with a unique moment of opportunity to take a closer look at DTLA’s position in the region, nation, and world – and to understand what that all means for its future. Building on its signature biennial Survey of Downtown Residents, Workers, and Visitors, the BID produced DTLA 2022: Outlook & Insights, a report that adds both broader economic context and more detailed data analysis in presenting a comprehensive picture of DTLA. Here are some of the report’s key findings: DTLA comprises only 1.4% of the land area of Los Angeles but provides 19% of the city’s jobs and 35-40% of its hotel, sales, and business tax revenues. This outsized economic contribution is due to its density. At 47,999 employees per square mile, DTLA has 13.5 times more than the rest of the city. DTLA residents are significantly younger and more ethnically diverse than either the city or region with more than 2/3rds saying they plan to live in DTLA for 3 years or more. DOWNTOWN LA’S COMEBACK WITH BISNOW In early March, the DCBID sponsored Bisnow’s DTLA Comeback event. Executive Director Nick Griffin offered opening remarks highlighting key findings from the DTLA 2022 report and showcasing version 3.0 of our award-winning DTLA Virtual tour platform, developed by the BID as a tool for exploring and promoting Downtown to investors and developers, as well as visitors and prospective tenants. The event also covered the recovery of DTLA’s office, retail, and hospitality sectors, along with the future of investment and

DCBID’s DTLA Virtual Tour development opportunities in 2022 and beyond. Attendees heard from a variety of Downtown leaders, including some of DCBID’s own Board members.

Leonard McCaffrey, Safety Team Leonard McCaffrey has been with the DCBID since November 2021. He currently works as a Bike Patrol Officer on the early morning shift. Since he joined the Safety Team, he has been eager to learn every aspect of the job and has proven to be an exceptional communicator. McCaffrey has shown that he is an extremely trustworthy and reliable team player. He is regarded by his peers as a natural-born leader and always comes to work with a good attitude.

Since joining the DCBID in March 2021, Willie has been a huge asset for the morning maintenance team. He has great attention to detail and is very willing to train new workers, offering helpful cleaning tips and tricks.

He is committed to keeping Downtown clean and his connection with the DTLA community is clear - many long-time residents often refer to him by name when they seem him out and about. Willie, with his friendly nature and can-do attitude, is a great addition to the DCBID team.

THE RAMS TAKE THE SUPER BOWL AND DTLA CELEBRATES! In 2017, Super Bowl LVI was awarded to Los Angeles and set to take place at the newly built SoFi Stadium in Inglewood in 2022. It was an extra treat for LA fans when the Los Angeles Rams went on to win a spot in that Super Bowl. Hundreds of thousands of fans visited DTLA to enjoy the Super Bowl festivities and watch the game, resulting in the highest number of visitors to Downtown since the start of the pandemic. Among the top five Downtown locations visited the week before the Super Bowl were FIGat7th, Grand Central Market, Crypto.com Arena, and THE BLOC. The official NFL Super Bowl Experience was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center—attracting even more visitors to DTLA. Leading up to the big game, DCBID launched a Game Day in DTLA webpage and sent out emails promoting in-District bars, hotels, and restaurants to nearly 35,000 subscribers. There was a 42% increase in engagement on the DCBID Instagram and a 14.7% increase in DowntownLA.com visitors.
