Total visitation to DTLA is returning to pre-pandemic levels and will continue to grow as business and convention travel starts to return in the coming months. DTLA visitors are a diverse group and include everyone from international tourists to locals visiting to pay a traffic ticket or serve on jury duty, and everyone in between. Locally, Downtown is one of the premiere “day trip” destinations due to its density of attractions and amenities. For those coming from outside of the region, Downtown is both an attraction unto itself and an ideal base from which to explore the rest of the region.

These heat maps show total overall visitor activity across DTLA during each of the years shown. This visualization demonstrates how much COVID-19 restrictions impacted Downtown and how strongly it has recovered in 2022. While the broad pattern of decline and recovery is apparent, particularly noteworthy is the strong performance of major visitor hubs such as LA LIVE, FIGat7th, Santee Alley, and Little Tokyo.
