Dear Yacht Cruise enthusiast, With an extended family of over 300 loyal employees, a selection of more than 10 destinations, a fleet of 12 small ships and last but not least the credential of over 200,000 (recorded) satisfied past clients; Variety Cruises is undeniably one of the leading yacht cruise lines worldwide. Yet to trace our origins we have to backtrack to 1949 when yet another war’s dust was settling in Greece. It was then when my father Diogenis Venetopoulos a historian-turned-tour-guide stood high above the Port of Piraeus overlooking a fleet of wooden Caïques, envisioning a better way to connect the world by educating curious travelers. 19 years later we owned our first small ship “The Freedom” (Greek: Ελευθέριος) with which our adventure began. Our slogans continue to adapt throughout the years, but in essence we are a family owned company focused on small ship cruises sharing the true soul of Variety Cruises. We aim to connect like-minded travelers on board our small ships offering the ideal balance between private yachting and scheduled cruises focused on delivering authentic destinations. Our objective is to develop a seamless cultural immersion into the destinations we visit by bringing the wishes of our guests and partners to life, with respect to the local communities involved. We continue to grow with new ships and new territories while listening to what our travelers- you- are looking for next. We are introducing new and exciting cruise destinations including Cape Verde, Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama and now the Canary Islands. We are building new ships to be deployed in new destinations such as North America, Eastern Asia. The world is changing, yet like children travelers remain curious, and we... remain excited about unraveling the mysteries of the world together! Welcome to Variety Cruises. Welcome home! Lakis Venetopoulos. President Variety Cruises

Why

Variety Cruises Variety Cruises’ experiential itineraries embrace each destination by allowing guests ample leisure time in each port including overnights, so travelers are encouraged to explore the local nightlife, culinary traditions and culture. Our yachts always dock right in the heart of the destination (alongside private mega yachts) and offer multiple swim stops in secluded bays, always combining the world’s best destinations with the off-the-beaten track locales often otherwise inaccessible. All the while, the friendly staff helps passengers feel right at home on board their floating boutique hotel, always offering in-depth insight to the tastes of the local arts and communities. Fine cuisine, with a strong local flavor, exciting itineraries blending well known ports of call and less known gems of the Mediterranean and beyond as well as our personalized service have positioned the company as the choice for an ever growing number of cruise goers looking for a small ship cruise experience.

On Board

Variety Cruises Small Ships The Variety Cruises small ships have operated hundreds of scheduled cruises and private charters over the past 47 years. All passengers come on board with a different set of expectations that make them choose our unique way of cruising, and they love it so much that nearly 80 per cent of the Variety Cruises guests return to experience more destinations on board our intimate ships.

A better way

to cruise More and more experienced as well as first-time cruise travelers are discovering the value of small ship cruising, making it the fastest growing segment of the travel industry. The Variety Cruises family is one of their top choices.

The Immersion in the destination Our itineraries deliver an up-close & personal cruise experience that larger ships cannot offer and allow for in – depth exposure to the culture and history of each destination. Each program is fitted with the destination, allowing ample time at each port. You will not feel rushed. With years of experience, this is what we know best.

An Intimate cruise experience With just 34 to 72 fellow passengers cruising together in our fully owned small ships, no wonder that after a few days into the cruise most of our guests will be on a first name basis with both crew and guests, with a professional yet family like atmosphere on board. The Variety informal and personal approach is a valued par t of your experience not found on larger vessels.

ATHENS, GREECE The capital and largest city in Greece, a bustling and cosmopolitan metropolis is one of the world’s oldest cities, its recorded history spans at least 3,000 years. Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. The heritage of the classical era is still evident in the city, represented by a number of ancient monuments and works of art, the most famous of all, the Parthenon on the Acropolis. Visits of Constitution Square, to the Panathinean Stadium, where the first modern Olympics took place, and a walking discovery of the quaint Plaka district, located around the Acropolis hill, are a must.

THE CORINTH CANAL, GREECE The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. The 6 km long canal was built between 1881 and 1893. Antiquity Rulers Periander and Julius Cesar planned the canal and Emperor Nero even started its construction in 54 BC but the project was abandoned after he died. The modern attempt at construction began in the 1870s following the successful opening of the Suez Canal. The Corinth Canal is considered a great technical achievement for its time. It saves the 700-kilometre (430 mi) journey around the Peloponnesus for smaller ships.

ITEA, GREECE

Folegandros is one of those tiny, quaint Greek islands where time seems to have stopped. It is the best example of a typical Greek island, with clear waters, white houses and little winding streets up in the Chora Village.

Itea is a small bathing resort and port at the end of a bay not too far from the ancient port of Delphi, once a very busy port. Today, it is a laid back community living mainly from agriculture, fishing and tourism. The hills leading to Arahova and Delphi are covered with olive trees belonging to the sanctuary of Apollo in ancient times. Referred to as a “sea of olives”, their production is now an important part of the local economy. Delphi and the Parnassos ski resorts are just 30 min away from Itea.

GYTHION, GREECE Two life-size statues on the quayside - one of a jaunty-tailed mermaid and one of a sailor in baggy trousers shading his eyes and gazing out to sea are the first things you’ll spot as your ship noses its way into the harbor at Gythion. Stroll around Gythion, and this joie de vivre is evident everywhere in the pastel-tinted houses, which jumble their way up the foothills of Mount Koumaros, and the crooked whitewashed staircases that snake their way between them; Gythion looks like a quintessential Greek island of the 1970’s, except that it is a small seaside town on the Mani Peninsula, which lies in the Southern Peloponnese and is the gateway to Sparta, the ancient Byzantine city of Mystras and the region of Laconia.

Katakolon is a seaside town in western Ilia in the municipality of Pyrgos and the gateway to Olympia, where the ancient Greeks flocked every four years for more than a millennium to celebrate the sacred games dedicated to Zeus. Visit the ruins of the Sanctuary, with its athletic quadrangles, stadium, temples and treasuries; then browse in the modern Archaeological Museum, a treasure house of Archaic, Classical and Roman sculptures, including the famous Niki Winged Victory.

HYDRA ISLAND, GREECE

KEA ISLAND, GREECE

The Island of Delos lies just off Mykonos. This 5,000 years old settlement is one of the largest outdoor museums of the world, inscribed by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. In 1872 the French Archaeological School started with systematic excavations in Delos, which still continue today together with the Greek Archaeological School. The Delos Museum is not to be missed with its magnificent sculptures, mosaics and clay vases dating from prehistoric period up to Roman times.

Hydra Island, one of the most unspoiled and interesting of the Greek islands, is a small rocky island in the Argosaronic Gulf, south east out of the Athens port of Piraeus and within sight of the southern Peloponnese mainland. It’s very cosmopolitan, safe and one of the easiest of the Greek islands to access. Best of all, the entire island is a preserved national monument and has retained all its 17th & 18th century charm and quaintness.

The island lies opposite Attica, with Makronissos interposed between them. Kea is a mountainous island, with small valleys and little sandy bays. The island’s capital Ioulis is built on the site of another ancient city, but there are nearly no remains except of the famous Lion of Kea with its Archaic Smile to be found at the edge of the Chora.

EPIDAURUS, GREECE

IOS ISLAND, GREECE

Epidaurus or Epidavros in modern Greek, was a small city in ancient Greece and was the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepius, the healer. Epidaurus was known for the Asclipion the most celebrated healing center of the Classical world, the place where ill people went in the hope of being cured. Found in the sanctuary, there was a guest house for 160 guestrooms. There are also mineral springs in the vicinity which may have been used in healing. Nearby, the Epidavros Theatre, known for its symmetry and almost perfect acoustics, seats 15,000 people.

Ios is a hilly island with cliffs and beautiful beaches. Ios was the setting of movies such as “Ginger and Cinnamon” or “Big Blue” partly shot in Manganari, one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. The bustling city of Ios is located at Ormos harbor in the northwest and from there a street road takes you to Chora, a very picturesque Cycladic village only accessible to pedestrian and the center of nightlife in Ios.

Kythira is an island of Greece, historically part of the Ionian Islands. It lies opposite the eastern tip of the Peloponnesos peninsula. In Ancient Greek Mythology, Kythira was considered to be the island of celestial Aphrodite, the Goddess of love. For many centuries, while naval travel was the only means for transportation, the island possessed a strategic location. Since ancient times, until the mid 19th century, Kithyra had been a crossroads of merchants, sailors, and conquerors. As such, it has had a long and varied history and has been influenced by

CORFU ISLAND, GREECE The island of Corfu is located just off the West coast of Greece. Corfu enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate along with excellent beaches making it a popular destination. Corfu is very green compared to other Greek islands and dominated by over 2 million olive trees. Its rich multi-cultural heritage, its historic monuments, its stunning natural landscape, its crystal clear seas, and its excellent weather all year round explain why Corfu is one of the most cosmopolitan Mediterranean destinations weaving a powerful spell on its visitors. The island is bound with the history of Greece from the beginning of Greek mythology and laden with battles and conquests. The legacy of these struggles is visible in the form of castles punctuating strategic locations across the island.

many civilizations and cultures. This is reflected in its architecture (a blend of traditional, Aegean and Venetian elements), as well as the traditions and customs, influenced by centuries of coexistence of the Greek, Venetian, Ottoman and British civilizations as well as its numerous visitors.

KYTHNOS ISLAND, GREECE Kythnos or Thermia is part of the Western Cyclades and is considered as an unspoiled island, with very friendly locals. Life is quiet and slow, an ideal location for relaxing, swimming on its sandy beaches and enjoying traditional simple food. Its major attraction is a fairly well known healing thermal spa, attracting many Greeks and foreign visitors. The colorful quaint villages of Kythnos, with their traditional houses and the peaceful landscape will not disappoint.

MONEMVASSIA, GREECE Monemvassia - originally called Malvasia by the Frank Templars - is a fishing and touristic town, located in Eastern Peloponnese. It is better known for its Medieval Fortress built on a rocky islet connected to mainland by a narrow bridge and this is why it is also called the Gibraltar of Eastern Mediterranean. A large settlement, dating from the 6th century A.D., but it is in the15th century that Venetians built the amazing fortress which is largely intact today. The streets are narrow and exclusively reserved to pedestrians.

MYKONOS ISLAND, GREECE Without a doubt, Mykonos is one of the most famous and picturesque Islands in the Mediterranean and a jet set spot, known for its nightlife, whitewashed landscapes and beautiful sandy beaches. A walking tour of Chora must include visits to the windmills, to the Paraportiani Church, the Maritime and Cycladic Museums and stops at designers’ shops and Little Venice cafes. Make sure you meet “Petros” the Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos.

ponnesian coast, separated by a narrow channel from mainland. The scenic port and the adjacent hills are filled with picturesque and aristocratic mansions, shops and restaurants very busy during summer.

PAROS ISLAND, GREECE

Pylos, once known under its Italian name - Navarino - is a large bay and a town on the west coast of the Peloponnese, in Southern Greece. Old Pylos and New Pylos are distinct settlements and castles, several kilometers apart. Old Pylos (Navarino Vecchio) is located on the northwest of the bay, while New Pylos is located in the southeast. The bay of Pylos was the site of two naval battles, the Battle of Pylos in 425 BC and the Battle of Navarino, in 1827, during the Greek War of Independence. Pylos is famous for Nestor’s Palace, the museum in Chora, the Dinari Lagoon, a must see place for bird watching lovers.

Paros Island, located in the Central Aegean Sea, became known for its fine white marble also called Parian, used to produce China and fine marble pieces worldwide. A must see is the bay of Naoussa, a natural harbor, closed by a chain in the ancient times. The three villages of Dragoulas, Marmara and Tsipidos, situated on an open plain on the eastern side of the island occupy the site of an ancient town. They are known together as the “villages of Kephalos” after the steep and lofty hill of Kephalos. On this hilltop stands the abandoned monastery of Agios Antonios (St. Anthony).

PATMOS ISLAND, GREECE Patmos is mentioned in the Christian scriptural Book of Revelation. The book’s introduction states that its author, John, was on Patmos when he was given (and recorded) a vision from Jesus. Earliest Christian tradition identifies this writer as John the Apostle. As such, Patmos is a destination for Christian pilgrimage. Visitors can see the cave where John is said to have received his Revelation (the Cave of the Apocalypse), and several monasteries on the island are dedicated to Saint John.

PAXOS OR PAXI ISLAND, GREECE Paxos untouched by time is the smallest Ionian Island. Paxos has no airport and for this reason has thankfully eluded the masses who flock to the neighboring islands. This magical island holds many enchanting surprises of natural beauty and contrasts. Numerous secluded coves and bays offer solitude of which some are only accessible by boat, the clarity of the sea make snorkeling an excellent pursuit for the more energetic

RETHYMNON, GREECE Rethymnon, one of Crete’s largest cities, displays a blend of modernity and of old time charm. The Venetians, who controlled the island for many centuries, made Rithymna a flourishing trading port and built the Fortezza, a fortress which protected the population for many years. Today, it is again a bustling port city. A walking tour in the city’s narrow streets will allow you to discover remains of Venetians and Ottoman architecture.

SAMOS ISLAND, GREECE Samos Island is located in the eastern Aegean Sea. The Mycale strait, 1.6 km wide, separates the island from the coasts of Turkey. Vathy is capital town of the island and also an important port. In the 6th century BC, Samos was at its zenith, under the rule of king Polycrates. The major part of Samos Island is covered with pine trees and vineyards, from which the famous Muscat wine is produced. The island has abundant natural beauty in form of picturesque mountainous spots, beautiful flora and crystalline sea, which entice people to come here and spend some of their most memorable holidays. In fact, it is mostly known as a calm family destination. Picturesque villages are perched in the mountains, surrounded by lush greenery.

SANTORINI ISLAND, GREECE Santorini is today what remained after an enormous volcanic explosion which occurred some 3,600 years ago at the height of the Minoan civilization destroying the earliest settlements on what was formerly a single island, and leading to the creation of the current geological Caldera. Its spectacular natural beauty, along with a dynamic nightlife, have made the island one of Europe’s tourist hotspots. A giant central lagoon, more or less rectangular, and measuring about 12 km by 7 km (8 mi by 4 mi), is surrounded by 300 m (984 ft) high steep cliffs on three sides. The capital, Fira as well as Imerovigli and Oia – a must see - cling to the top of the cliff looking down on the lagoon.

SOUNION, GREECE The archaeological site of Sounion is located on a promontory, by the sea, 1 hour from Athens. Cape Sounion is noted for its two ancient temples on this site, one dedicated to Athena (of which only the foundations remain) and the other, the famous one, to Poseidon. The ruins bear the deeply engraved name of English Romantic poet Lord Byron (1788 - 1824).

SYROS ISLAND, GREECE Syros has always been a significant por t town, and du-ring the19th century it was even more significant than Piraeus. Ermoupoli, the “Queen of the Cyclades”, stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses cascading down to the harbor. The “City of Hermes” has numerous magnificent churches the most interesting of which are Metamorphosis, Koimisis and St. Demetrius. The Archaeological Museum has a collection of notable finds and the Municipal Library contains numerous interesting and rare editions.

TINOS ISLAND, GREECE Tinos is an island that belongs to the complex of Cyclades. For the Greeks, Tinos is a holy island for the church of Panagia Megalochari, located on a hill above Chora, the capital of the island. This church is considered the savior of all Greece and a great religious

ceremony takes place every year on August 15th, the date of the Assumption of the Virgin. However, the most beautiful villages of Tinos Island are located in the inland. 40 white little picturesque villages, more than 700 churches and monasteries, immaculate dovecotes and beautiful sandy and pebble beaches are the elements that create the wonderful island of Tinos. Still unknown by the majority of foreign tourists, Tinos mostly attracts Greek pilgrims travelling there to see and touch the miraculous healing icon of the Virgin Mary, that was found in 1822.

Intercontinental Istanbul

The idea of Istanbul as collision between East and West reveals itself immediately, with monumental churches and mosques (the Hagia Sophia), Roman ruins (the Hippodrome, where horse and chariot races were held in Roman times) and unadulterated symbols of consumerism (the Grand Bazaar with its thousands of shops).

DIKILI, TURKEY

The primary appeal to Turkey’s Kusadasi is, of course, its proximity to the ancient Roman city of Ephesus, the best preserved classical city in the Eastern Mediterranean. And while Ephesus is the main reason people come from all over the world to Kusadasi, the city also offers a perfectly pleasant opportunity to kick back and sip Turkish wine at a seafront cafe, and explore the old town and its vibrant markets and traditional Turkish baths.

Dikili is a quite picturesque, seaside fishing town that is made up of mainly holiday villas and a few hotels. The charming centre with cobbled streets has restaurants, bars and shops. It is a popular tourist destination due to its close proximity to the ruins of the ancient city of Pergamon that was an ancient Greek city, that became the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamon during the Hellenistic period, under the Attalid dynasty, 281–133 BC. Pergamon was cited in the book of Revelation as one of the seven churches of Asia. Today, the main sites of ancient Pergamon are to the north and west of the modern city of Bergama.

CANAKKALE, TURKEY

KORCULA, CROATIA

This small port is located in the straights of Dardanelles connects connecting Europe and Asia as well as the Aegean and the Marmara Seas; Once an important center of the civilizations of Troy and Assos, city later was called Hellespont and took the name of Çanakkale after a major war during the last phase of the Ottoman Empire. Having been the scene of great wars and victories, the glorious city has witnessed different phases of history and is now harboring the landmarks of these historic times.

Korcula is one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic Sea and also one of the most popular travel destinations in Croatia. The island itself is rich in art and culture, as well as beautiful nature such as numerous tiny and secluded beaches and bays, small and uninhabited islands and breathtaking views. The main town on the island is also named Korcula. Korcula Town is a typical medieval walled Dalmatian city, with its round defensive towers and cluster of red-roofed houses.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY

DUBROVNIK, CROATIA

A geographic and metaphoric molding pot of East and West, Istanbul is the world’s only city covering two continents – the Bosporus runs through the center, Europe lying to the west, Asia to the east. For nearly 2,000 years, the ideally situated metropolis has been the keystone of some of the world’s great empires, serving as capital city for the Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. Inside the sprawling city, the secular and the sacred mingle -- minarets with nightclubs and dusty prayer rugs with designer digs.

Royalty, presidents and diplomats have all favoured this city nicknamed "Pearl of the Adriatic" with its marble streets, baroque buildings and the endless shimmer of the Adriatic. In the Middle Ages it became the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development during the 15th and 16th centuries. Home to many notable poets, playwrights, painters, mathematicians, physicists and other scholars, today Dubrovnik is

KUSADASI, TURKEY

Divani Acropolis

an elite destination and one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean. Dubrovnik used to be an independent republic, surviving mostly on trade. It managed to survive many centuries, with constant threats to its territory, particularly from the mighty Ottoman Empire and Venice. As early as 19th century, it was discovered by celebrities as a place to be seen. George Bernard Shaw once said that "those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and find it".

BUDVA, MONTENEGRO The coastal area around Budva, called the Budva Riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism, known for its well preserved medieval walled city, sandy beaches and diverse nightlife. Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast. Tourism is the main driver of the economy of Budva. It is a significant tourist destination on the eastern Adriatic, and by far the most popular destination in Montenegro. Unlike Kotor or Dubrovnik, Budva has an image of a beach resort, with lively and vibrant atmosphere and a very active nightlife. The Budva riviera has some of the most attractive beaches of south Adriatic, and the most pleasant climate in Montenegro.

KOTOR, MONTENEGRO The old Mediterranean port of Kotor is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. It is located on the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska), one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. Some have called it the southern-most fjord in Europe, but it is a ria, a submerged river canyon. Together with the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen, Kotor and its surrounding area form an impressive and picturesque Mediterranean landscape.

SARANDA, ALBANIA Given its coastal access and Mediterranean climate, Saranda has become an important tourist attraction. Saranda as well as the rest of the Albanian Riviera, according to The Guardian, "is set to become the new 'undiscovered gem' of the overcrowded Med." Tourism is thus the major economic resource, while other resources include services, fisheries and construction. 2016-2017 › Variety Cruises › 31

Trinidad

Ports of Call CUBA

› CASILDA / TRINIDAD Casilda — also called Puerto Casilda or La Casilda— is the seaport of the town of Trinidad, 5 km upland. Once a Spanish colonial settlement built on huge sugar fortunes and now a Unesco World Heritage site. Colonials from Spain exploited the land in the valley of the sugar mills using hard labor from thousands of slaves — Cuba had 493,000 in 1841 — who were transported to the port in Casilda, ideally located and protected by Ancon peninsula. Slaves were a commodity and arrived along with furniture, porcelain and building materials from Spain and used to decorate the sugar barons' palatial homes in Trinidad. Compared to Trinidad, Casilda is rather quiet. Once you are here you will enjoy all that the little village offers, including the nearby beaches on Ancon and the historic city of Trinidad. › Havana One of the most exciting, vibrant cities in the Caribbean with unprecedented changes continuing apace since the withdrawal of Fidel Castro from Cuba's politics in 2008, also one of the most dynamic. Havana pulsates with laughter, music, humor and yes, difficulties. All life's ingredients coexist in Cuba's tropical mix and nowhere more so than in its magnetic capital. The exquisite architecture of Old Havana makes it the Americas' best-preserved colonial center. Taking a stroll through shady plazas to the world famous Malecón with no goal beyond an ice-choked mojito feels like stepping back in time. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Habana Vieja is being restored through a program that feeds tourist revenues into renovation efforts. › Cienfuegos The colonial town of Cienfuegos was founded in 1819 in the Spanish territory, initially settled by immigrants of French origin. It became a trading place for sugar cane, tobacco and coffee. Situated on the Caribbean coast of southern-central Cuba at the heart of the country’s sugar cane, mango, tobacco and coffee production area, the town first developed in the neoclassical style. It later became more eclectic but retained a harmonious overall townscape. Among buildings of particular interest are the Government Palace (City Hall), San Lorenzo School, the Bishopric, the Ferrer Palace, the former lyceum, and some residential houses. Cienfuegos is the first, and an outstanding example of an architectural ensemble representing the new ideas of modernity, hygiene and order in urban planning as developed in Latin America from the 19th century.

› MARIA LA GORDA María la Gorda, listed as a reserve of the biosphere by UNESCO, is located on the southern coast of the western end of Cuba, in the inlet of Corrientes, Guanahacabibes Peninsula, 300 kilometers west of Havana. At the westernmost tip of Cuba, in the Pinar del Rio province, you can find one of the most virgin natural zones in the Cuban archipelago. The Guanahacabibes Peninsula region, due to its treasures of flora, fauna, and for its sea and terrestrial landscapes, has been a Biosphere Reserve as declared by UNESCO since 1987. On the coast of the "Reserva de la Biosfera Península de Guanahacabibes" are many beautiful white sandy beaches. And off the coast are extensive coral reefs. All of which are some of the most pristine in the world. Birds like Cartacuba,Tocororo, Sijú platanero, Zunzuncito, among many others, are to be found in a migration corridor of more than 50 species flying from north to south and vice versa, and stopping in the coastal lagoons and wetlands. Guanahacabibes also supports 35 species of reptiles, and is an important habitat for iguanas, majaes and other reptiles.

› Cayo Largo Crystal clear waters beckon from the south part of this tranquil Caribbean islet, a hundred miles south of Havana and known for its 17 miles of stunning white sand beaches, mangrove forests and scuba diving to the black coral reef. Cayo Largo’s main attractions are its virgin white-sand beaches whose seabed is unspoiled, considered ones of the planet’s most conserved. Coral reefs that border it outline an impressive submerged scenario, with an abundance of underwater caves, valleys and steep gorgonian-encrusted walls. There's a profusion of iguanas and birdlife, including cranes, zunzuncitos (bee hummingbirds) and flamingos. You will have the chance to learn about Cayo Largo’s Sea Turtle Breeding Centre and Endangered Species Protection program, just before you enjoy an amazing 2 ½ hour guided experience with a coral reef expert. 2016-2017 › Variety Cruises › 43

Variety Cruises and guests have the option of getting involved with the local communities visited either personally, or via the VARIETY GETS INVOLVED INITIATIVE, a not-for-profit foundation aimed at connecting the members of our yacht cruise line with the people of the destinations we visit, and beyond. Examples involve our Seychelles initiative whereby we got involved by providing local education support to the available infrastructure, acknowledged by the local government in 2013. We have become involved with the local communities offering support to the Archbishop Makrios Scholarship fund, as well as with the Trevor Project, the leading suicide prevention line for LGBTQ youth community in the US and beyond. In 2010 our West Africa cruise became a unique opportunity to get involved with local communities when we discovered the need to provide additional education infrastructure to the vil-

Embracing local communities has been at the core of Variety Cruises’ concept, since its inception by our original founder Diogenis Venetopoulos in 1949. Since then, we have gone a long way by introducing new vessels, developing unique itineraries, and exploring the globe one shore at a time. However, one of the fundamental milestones is going beyond simply visiting a destination, but instead immersing ourselves in it geographically, culturally, environmentally, and emotionally. To achieve this lifelong objective we have found that the best way is by allowing our guests and ourselves to get involved. By getting involved we allow for a two-way communication experience whereby we exchange information, experiences, and support with the places we visit and people we interact with.

lage of Lamin Koto by the Gambian River. With the support of our local cruise director who became the liaison between the company, its guests, and the local community we built a school from scratch that now proudly serves over 100 children from Lamin Koto. In 2014 as part of our passion to support the education of The Gambia, we initiated the Kuntaur Film Festival. Focus lies on sharing educational and classical films from all over the globe with local communities, with children at the forefront being the overwhelming majority. The Festival’s mission is to connect Global Film Communities within The Gambia, and to provide a platform for emerging talent. Last but not least, we continue to support the local community of Greece, where Variety Cruises was born by continuing to sponsor select local artists and artisans, with profound artistic impact. On a daily basis we are inundated by charities and worthy causes seeking our support. Some feel closer to home, others more valid; yet what connects them all is the true passion for a community that needs support. All proceeds from all our efforts as part of the foundation are utilized for the further growth of this and other projects as part of our mission, and the local communities they serve. Variety Gets Involved is a story, which has just begun, and we look forward to you joining us in our exciting lifelong adventure.
