Awarded British International School of the Year in the UK Independent School of the Year Awards in 2019 Ranked among the top 100 schools in the world (SpearsSchoolIndex)

While our founding mission remains the same as it ever was, our vision is to be leading British education overseas. Reinforcing our values, culture and ethos will be a key priority going forward. Today some 65% of our graduates attend university in the UK and a further 30% head to the US, to which end we are committed to providing our students with a modern and comprehensive personal, social and health education curriculum which equips them for life in their university destinations. We are committed to celebrating diversity within our school community while respecting the values, ethics and traditions of our hosts. future

Priority: We are committed to creating a contemporary interdisciplinary curriculum which reflects the changing world. WHAT MUST A 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION LOOK LIKE? As a British school overseas delivering a combined UAE and UK curriculum which grows year by year, our students and staff are busier than ever. The world beyond our campus is also evolving ever more quickly. As such, our programme of support for staff, students and parents must continue to provide timeless wisdom alongside timely advice. Adapting to change 8 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition of excellence Building a legacy for the future

Priority: Our curriculum will adapt to reflect the importance of multi-subject working and team-based learning. WHAT MUST A 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION LOOK LIKE? The working world is changing to a hybrid model where the most valuable employees are agile. No longer will our graduating students necessarily climb a linear career ladder as experts in one field. Future T-shaped careers will require expertise in a number of complementary areas. Preparing for the Future of Work 9 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition of excellence Building a legacy for the future

2030CAMPUSPROJECT 10 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition of excellence Building a legacy for the future

This is the name of our ambitious masterplan to rebuild the DC campus to reflect our strategic vision and the aims of a 21st century education. We know that more students than ever will seek higher education over the coming years and that competition for places in the world’s leading universities is certain to grow as a result. In this evolving environment, we remain committed to offering an education to the highest academic standards which will maximise our students’ chances of personal success. That said, we recognise that we have a duty to ensure that our students are also ready for the likelihood of T-shaped careers. By designing a campus which integrates design, creativity and project-based learning into flexible classroom spaces built around the Harkness table (large tables around which the whole class and the teacher sits), we believe that our hybrid campus will develop learner employability, adaptability and intelligence. Dubai College already has a head start in terms of delivering educational innovation. In 2017, it pioneered the Harkness method in the UAE. This ensures that every student is in the “front row” and remains engaged and involved in class activities. A tradition of excellence. a legacy for the future.

DUBAI COLLEGE

THE TEACHING & LEARNING ENVIRONMENT?

12 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition of excellence Building a legacy for the future

All of the proposed new or refurbished buildings have at their core the ability to teach and learn in larger spaces, collaborate in multidisciplinary settings, and meet informally in comfortable surroundings.

The first of these new buildings will be C Block. This will incorporate a new state-of-the-art library, art department and new teaching spaces which will include the maths department.

We have consulted widely with the students themselves and our designs to completely transform the central teaching area of the school (A , B, C and D blocks) have incorporated their clear views on sustainability, space, light and ambience.HOWCAN WE CHANGE

They will also have a highlyflexible IT infrastructure to allow for the fundamental advances in technology that are bound to occur during the buildings’ lifespan.

HOW CAN WE FINANCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CAMPUS TO SUPPORT THESE AIMS? Dubai College aspires to maintain its position leading a British education overseas. Encouraging philanthropy from individual donors and corporate sponsorship ThetheCommercialisingcampusincludingSPACEandthefield Reducing our top line costs Licensing the name of Dubai College for an overseas campus Developing an employer engagement and mentorship programmeEnrolling more students to a cap of 1,100 Our old campus and traditional methods require constant innovation and improvement. To this end we intend to increase our revenue as we rise to the challenge of continuously rebuilding our campus for tomorrow. We will achieve this via a multi-pronged approach: 13 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition of excellence Building a legacy for the future

TRANSFORMING DUBAI COLLEGE

The core elements of this transformation are the four blocks (A, B, C, D) which together form a quadrangle and which, as part of this plan, will become a shaded central atrium within the four Somebuildings.buildings will be completely refurbished/expanded, and some will be demolished and replaced. The core elements of space, light, environmental sustainability and interoperability will be paramount in all of these changes.

15 Block C is the first stage of the major transformation of the DC campus planned over the next eight years.

COLLEGE

DUBAI

Within this overall strategy, stands as the signature/flagship project. It reflects not only architectural and design priorities, but also the educational priorities and focus on multi-disciplinarity, flexible working spaces and departments complementing other. The building is open from ground to ceiling in the middle (an atrium) with skylights at top letting in light, bold staircases and lots of greenery.

The second floor is primarily the art department and gallery, but with the addition of the computer science department in four classrooms. The art department will be housed in four studios as well as a darkroom and a kiln room. The internal walls surrounding the atrium (and to an extent similar spaces in the other two floors) will house both permanent and temporary art exhibitions. of excellence a legacy for the future

TRANSFORMING DUBAI COLLEGE

The ground floor houses the resource hub/library a large space that will contain workspaces ranging from individual study carrels to group tables, as well as the study resources/ books of a traditional library. There will also be a cafeteria, teachers’ room and two Harkness rooms, plus a “maker’s space” for creative and technological constructions, 3 D printers etc.

16 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition

The first floor has a direct link to the current D Block and will therefore function as a combined area which is primarily teaching spaces. Ten classrooms and two Harkness rooms will be enhanced by informal break-out spaces. Maths classrooms in the new building will flow into the humanities departments in D Block with the advantage of project work and crossovers achieved. The overall approach to the sustainability to be improved and promoted within the campus. School should aim to provide facilities that can be used by the community and beyond.

BIGGER CLASSROOMS & GROUPED Make classroom sizes bigger. Classrooms within buildings to be grouped by subject or discipline. Natural light and ventilation in classrooms should be enhanced.

BLOCK C 17 DUBAI COLLEGE A tradition of excellence Building a legacy for the future

Increasing the number of washroom and toilets with easier accessibility.

CREATE AN ATTRACTIVE CAMPUS The existing ‘quirky’ brand character of the school should be retained and enhanced, with external spaces refreshed to ensure that the school campus as a whole is renewed. …AND FINALLY

SUSTAINABILITY

OFPROVISIONCOMMON ROOMS Common rooms to be provided for students to socialise during break time. The break out spaces to be improved.

The campus buildings to be well connected. It should be easy to move between the campus buildings. The campus to provide smooth and easy circulation for people of determination to move around.

The quality of the facilities contribute to a positive learning environment. The technology infrastructure should aim to meet the learning needs of students.

GOALS AND CONNECTIVITYOBJECTIVES

ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTLEARNING

The library/resource centre is the primary focus of the ground floor of the building. It will be a 900m2 state of the art study and resource centre including highly flexible space to allow for individual study and research carrels rising up to group working spaces as well as print and desktop study resources.

Whereas the whole building will be used to showcase the works of art produced by our students, the second floor will host the art department studios and workshops as well as a dedicated gallery.

NAMING OF THE BUILDING

The whole building can be named on the wishes of the principal donor/sponsor. This can include a logo if appropriate and will be adopted throughout the College as the official title for the building.

A core element of the Dubai College teaching philosophy is to utilise Harkness rooms. These consist of large round or oval tables at which lessons are delivered. They allow every student to be in the “front row” of the class, and their use promotes oracy (the ability to express oneself fluently) and metacognition (the awareness and understanding of one's own thought processes). There will be four Harkness rooms within the new building and these are all available to be named after a donor/sponsor.

Donation size suggested: AED 10m NAMING OF THE LIBRARY
