We also have been staying in contact with high school seniors from our alma mater high schools to find out what students they know who are going to be attending Georgia Tech as freshmen in the fall, hoping to attract these men to our fall rush to determine if they are worthy of wearing Delta Upsilon letters. There are going to be fun summer and fall semesters ahead that Joey and I are looking forward to. Zach Slaney Rush Chair

Spring Initiation 2012 This Spring initiation that was held on the 31st of March was a great success. We have added one great man who exemplifies our four founding principles and I am proud to call him my brother. Our recruitment efforts throughout the fall, as well as help from our Fall 2011 pledge class, kept Matt interested in joining Delta Upsilon and he decided to pledge in the Spring. Our Spring rush efforts were very strong, but unfortunately we did not find many men attending Rush who we felt would be a good addition to join our brotherhood. We did not offer any “rushees the opportunity for membership into our Spring 2012 pledge class. Although we were disappointed of the size of our pledge class, we are proud that we hold high standards for the men that we want to build into better men and to represent our fraternity throughout our campus as well as anywhere else they are present. We have been planning our summer recruitment for several months now and are excited for what it holds. We are planning weekly events for brothers to attend and we will welcome some lucky potential rushees to attend these events with our brothers.

Greek Week 2012 This semester DU was able to place second in Greek Week, an improvement from last year when we placed third. Each brother played a vital role in Greek Week and as a chapter we are learning this is what we have to do in order to compete for the number one spot. Starting in January, Brother Robert (Bobby) Lee pushed the tug team through an intense workout regimen that physically and mentally prepared each brother for the mud pit. He was successful since our tug team placed fourth overall beating Theta Xi and Lambda Chi Alpha. Beating Lambda Chi Alpha was a great challenge and achievement.

Our social calendar has been quite busy over the last few months. Between Jell-O shots and sorority formals, we managed to plan one of the most fun registered parties of the year. Meet Hollywood Party. We went all out for this event. First, we decked out the house. We rolled in a new red carpet from the stairs to the foyer, put up strobe lights and chaged out all of the lights for colored ones. Then, we hired a famous DJ(DJ KID CEDEK) and even a professional photographer. The result? A night full of the most epic stories. Rumor has it that Hugh Heffner and LMFAO even made an appearance. DU’s 2012 Tug Team and supporters after the event A video of the tug can be found on YouTube by searching “GT Greek Week Tug 2012 – Delta Upsilon beats Lambda Chi”. Other great Greek Week achievements include football toss won by Brother Jacob Anderson and pool events won by Brothers Murphy Greathouse, Ross Lucier, Adam Raymond, and David Lee. Throughout the entirety of Greek Week, Theta Chi was the team to beat. They placed first overall; Regardless, DU displayed the most spirit at each event by having a high spectator attendance. We were complemented many times by other fraternities and sororities on our love for Greek Week. Greek Week 2012 was a success and DU is ready to win it all next year. Formal 2012 Georgia Tech is hard. No one is going to deny that. Things often look bleak as the semester goes on and grades start coming in. Sometimes we just need to take a step back and get away from it all. DU has a time honored tradition for this. Formal! This year (April 13th), we’re packing our bags and driving down to New Orleans for the weekend. Our dates and us will be departing Friday and coming back to Georgia Tech on Sunday. While there, we will have a banquet honoring current DUs in categories such as DU of the year, unsung hero, scholarship and Pledge of the Year. Seriousness aside, we also honor those that managed to court the most “interesting” of females and always managed to have a new girl by his side every week. Philanthropy Update

Guests having a great time at the party For all of the other photographs from the night, please go to Facebook and search for the “Delta Upsilon Fraternity at Georgia Tech” page. Give the page a “Like” and enjoy the photographs/regular updates posted there!

The success our Delta Upsilon chapter had with St. Baldrick's this semester is something that I hope continues in later years. As a chapter, we raised almost 12,000 dollars with multiple brothers raising over 1,000 dollars. As philanthropy chair, I was personally very pleased to have raised as much as we did for such a great cause. We can thank participants such as Brother Dave Kearns who raised over 1,500 dollars and Brother Robert Lee who personally donated over 500 dollars. Taylor Willoughby Philanthropy Chairman

Upcoming Alumni Events

Obituary

As is the trend for this year, we are trying our hardest to bridge Alumni relations and pave a future where there is more involvement on both sides. In lieu of this goal, there are a couple of great events coming up towards the end of the semester that we would like all Alumni within the Atlanta area to attend.

Alumni, it is with great sadness that I notify you all of the passing of one of our chapters founding fathers, Joseph Roy Depriest Jr. On February 22nd, 2012, he passed away, leaving a legacy behind him. The Brothers were heartbroken to hear of the passing of one of our founding fathers. Our chapter would not be here if it was not for him and his drive to commit and execute a task to the best of degrees. He laid the foundation for us to follow in his footsteps of holding true to our Fraternity's ideals and principles. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends, and extend a hand of support and grace.
