Argentina and Brazil Face Drought Challenges TrialWerx® Projects Show Positive Results through Analysis January 20, 2021
Argentina Situation
By: Ignacio Colonna, Research Manager, LATAM
Brazil Situation By: Ricardo Duarte,
When walking our field trials in Argentina and Brazil, we’ve not seen much visual difference between our control and tested areas. However, when we analyze the fields through TrialWerx ®, the AgriThority® largescale, on-farm trial system, we can document variances. Each season many variables can impact our trials, but this year, lack of rainfall is impacting our corn and soybean season, especially in Argentina.

Argentina Crops Impacted by Drought A dry season has already caused a decrease in final wheat yields versus the previous season and negatively impacted the yield estimates for early planted summer crops. The drought has mostly affected crops in the central temperate region, whereas the southern region looks better than normal, and the North is just getting planted. Rains received on Jan 11-12 have improved these conditions, so look out for our next update to check new estimates!

AgriThority Projects in Argentina Positive Despite Drought Despite the drought, all field projects are ongoing and in most with good quality. The stress in crop growing conditions have allowed noticeable treatment effects in some of our biostimulant large-scale TrialWerxÂŽ projects in Argentina. Below, two highlights in which this was captured through crop monitoring using satellite-based NDVI.
Soybean response to biostimulant seed treatments: Significantly higher vegetative growth during the V2-R1 crop window in the Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe province, field-scale trial. This response was not visible during a field visit, but is documented through data.

Corn response to soil-applied biostimulants in long-term irrigation fields with high salinity/sodium water: Significantly higher GNDVI during the V4-V10 crop window in the Balcarce, Buenos Aires province, field-scale trial.

Brazil Facing Rainfall Irregularities and Disease Pressure With greater planting areas, the corn crop remains in stability, and the soybean crop is growing. In general, the forecast of growth in the area will be around 2.0% for the main grains, oilseeds and cereals crops.

It’s still early for Asian Soybean rust (ASR) 39 reports by Jan 18th, 2021 vs 61 in 2019/2020 by same date. The planting of soybeans in several regions was delayed due to the irregularity of rainfall. If the weather conditions are favorable for the development of the disease, the probability is for greater incidence and severity. Asian Soybean Rust Pressure by Date

December 2020 Weather Conditions
Maximum temperature anomalies (OC)
Rainfall anomalies (mm)
Good rainfall volumes accumulated in the last half of December in almost the entire country, but in states like Mato Grosso, the irregularity of rains is the main challenge for soybean crops in the final stages of the crop season.
AgriThority Projects in Brazil Positive Despite Drought Research and developing projects are in good standing, some to be initiated in the next few weeks. Early evaluation of P fertilizer use efficiency in soybeans showed initial responses in crop ground cover estimated through digital images. From our digital estimation, Itaberรก, SP trials show a 4.54% increase in soybean canopy cover on the P fertilizer plus additive over P fertilizer and 6.14% over the control. 92.11%
