Carnegie Corp. gives award to Brodhead

7 DUKE FSU 45 TOMAHAWK DROP

by Raisa Chowdhury THE CHRONICLE

CHARLOTTE— With Duke riding high on an eight-game winning streak, the Blue Devils crashed back down to Earth hard against topranked Florida State in the ACC championship game. With a solid first half performance from the defense, the Blue Devils failed to do what they had done all season—turn opportunities into points. The offense could not find an answer for the Seminole defense and blew early opportunities en route to a 45-7 loss. “You are going to have to make plays when they present themselves,” Duke head coach David Cutcliffe said. “We’re not going to beat a lot of people when we complete 50 percent of our passes. Brodhead served on the corporation’s board of trustees from 2004 to 2012. The other recipients are Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University; John Hennessy, president of Stanford University; and Beverly Tatum, president of Spelman College. “I’m very pleased,” Brodhead said. “The award is certainly to Duke as much as to myself. It recognizes things that we have been doing here that are good paradigms for where Duke has been in the lead.” Established in 2005, the award honors
