Duke’s sexual misconduct policy has been refined to make it clearer and easier for students to utilize. The changes—announced Aug. 14 in an email from Larry Moneta, vice president for student affairs, to all students—include adjustments to the policy and clarifications to terminology. Several on-campus organizations gave input that was used to make the refinements, including Duke Student Government and the Graduate and Professional School Student Council. Administrators and DSG members said that the aim of the changes is to make it easier to understand how sexual assault complaints are handled. “We tried to relate [the information] in a way that was logical,” Moneta said. “It’s a clear and cleaner way of laying it out.” Information for complainants and respondents is now listed in the beginning of the policy so students can find it more easily, Moneta added. Staff Reports The Chronicle A car accident occurred early Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Science Drive and Towerview Road, causing a car to flip over. No injuries were reported. The car, which was a red Honda CR-V,

was traveling down Towerview Road when it collided with a black car turning from Science Drive onto Towerview Road. “[The red CR-V] came zooming through the red light and just took the front part off our car,” said Eryn Dennehy, a passenger in the black car, a Honda. Dennehy and her mother were the only ones in the black car and are not affiliated with Duke.

The driver of the CR-V declined to comment. Police, emergency medical services and a crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene. The head officer at the scene said that no official information would be released until Monday. Check back for updates on this developing story.

Alcohol EMS numbers spike Saturday Samantha Neal and Neelesh Moorthy The Chronicle Four alcohol-related calls to Duke Emergency Medical Services occurred during this year’s orientation week—two fewer than last year. Since Aug. 18, there have been 19 EMS

calls—four of which were alcohol-related, said senior Chris Endo, director of Duke EMS. Last year, there were 20 EMS calls during orientation week, with six of them alcohol-related. Before Saturday of this week, there had been only one alcoholrelated EMS call, Endo said, but that number spiked significantly with three
