Displacement: The Three Gorges Dam and Contemporary Chinese Art is organized by the Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago. The exhibition is curated by Wu Hung, Smart Museum Consulting Curator, Harrie A. Vanderstappen Distinguished Service Professor of Art History, and Director of the Center for the Art of East Asia, University of Chicago, in consultation with Jessica Moss, Smart Museum Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, and Stephanie Smith, Smart Museum Director of Collections and Exhibitions and Curator of Contemporary Art. The exhibition and related programs have been supported by Dan Bo, the Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, the University of Chicago Women’s Board, and the Center for East Asian Studies. 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tour of the Arts, Culture, and Technology Center at the Smith Warehouse A former Liggett tobacco warehouse has recently been transformed into the Arts, Culture, and Technology Center, a state-of-the-art multimedia facility where visual artists and composers collaborate to create new forms of art, and where faculty from a variety of disciplines create new knowledge in the arts. The ACT Warehouse also houses the Visual Arts teaching studios and programming activities of the Department of Art & Art History, including new studios for drawing, painting, bookmaking, and printmaking; a darkroom and photo/printing room; offices and faculty studios; gallery; and common space. Griffith Film Theater, Bryan Center This year marks the 50th anniversary of Terry Sanford’s election as governor of North Carolina. At the time, he was hailed as a moderate/liberal alternative to the traditional southern politician. What is Sanford’s legacy to North Carolina and how has southern politics changed over the past half century? Join Robert Korstad, Kevin D. Gorter Professor of Public Policy Studies and History, as he leads a discussion with John A. Drescher, Jr. M.A.’88, senior vice-president and executive editor, Raleigh, North Carolina’s News & Observer, Faulkner Fox, author and lecturing fellow, department of English, and Kerry Haynie, associate professor and associate department Chair of Political Science, and co-director, Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in the Social Sciences.

This is a true reunion adventure for alumni who want to swing, crawl, and climb through the trees! Enjoy the beauty of Duke Forest with students from Project W.I.L.D (Wilderness Initiatives for Learning at Duke) as they guide alumni through the Team Challenge Course Comfortable athletic wear and shoes are required. Group will meet on the lawn of the Gross Chemistry Building (corner of Towerview and Science Drives), on the Towerview Drive side. Course is limited to 30 people. Project W.I.L.D. Playing field between Wallace Wade Stadium and the HUGE (football fieldsized) tent The Class of 1985 is sponsoring a soccer clinic for children of alumni (and any interested, energetic parents!) coached by members of the stellar Duke men’s and women’s soccer teams. It is recommended that participants be at least 5 years of age, and wear soccer shoes or tennis shoes (no need to bring shin guards unless you really want to). Explore the recent addition to Duke’s residential campus and learn more about exciting enhancements to campus life created with the construction of Keohane Quad and McClendon Tower. He has written more than 30 EW cover stories and writes a seasonal blog called OscarWatch for EW.com. He will interview actor and screenwriter Jack Coleman ’80, a constant actor for 30 years known for his roles in such hits as Dynasty and the sci-fi series Heroes, and Kevin Gray ’80, whose Broadway, OffBroadway, and National Tour credits include leading roles in The King and I and the Phantom of the Opera, and is currently appearing with the symphony tour Three Phantoms in Concert.

The class will gather in Scharf Hall, located in one of Duke’s finest new facilities: catch up with old friends and reminisce about your Duke days over light hors d’oeuvres from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and then continue to mix and mingle while dining on fabulous fare served at different food stations. Being that the 5 year is the biggest reunion group, we get control of Cameron Indoor for the night! Be sure to arrive by 9:30 p.m., because at this point you need to put on a smile to take a picture with your freshman dorm on a bench being specially painted for the Class of 2005! REUNION EVENTS - SATURDAY, APRIL 17 Pine Cone Pacer 5K and Sapling Sprint Check-in: 7:30 a.m. Race begins at 8:00 a.m. Start Saturday morning off right with the Pine Cone Pacer 5K and Sapling Sprint, a fun run and walk to benefit the Duke Forest. Rare Book Room, Perkins Library Lieutenant Commander (retired) Ted Robinson ‘40 is a born storyteller who will reminisce with Alex Roland Ph.D. ‘74, professor of history, about working his way through Duke during the Great Depression, winning a commission in the Navy, and serving in Torpedo Boat Squadron 6 with John F. Kennedy in World War II. Robinson’s memoir, Water in my Veins: the Pauper Who Helped Save a President, reveals his part in rescuing Kennedy and surviving crew of PT 109 after it was rammed by a Japanese destroyer.

CSI Camp for Kids and Parents hosted by Duke Chemistry Department French Family Science Center Perform a series of chemical tests in actual chemistry labs to find out which suspect committed the crime, then celebrate your sleuthing success by making and eating nitrogen ice cream! For safety reasons, parents must remain with their children throughout the event.

2:00 p.m. Rent preformed by Hoof ‘n’ Horn Hoof ‘n’ Horn presents Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical based loosely on Puccini’s opera La Bohème.
