Duluth Public Library: Main Library Social Story

Page 1

Main Library

I can visit the Main Library.

If I park on Superior Street, this is the door I use to walk into the library.

Inside the library, I will see the Circulation desk.

A library worker might say hi to me.

This is the Youth Services or the Kids Area. It is fun, bright, and colorful!

I will try to remember to use my walking feet in the library. I will try to remember to use my inside voice.

These are computers for playing games. One of them is the card catalog, where I can look up a book.

These toys are for borrowing and taking home to play with. A library worker will unlock the cabinet and take it to the desk.

More toys and games!

Toys get placed in a toy bag and this is what I will take it home in. Be sure to keep the toy safe!

I might hear a vacuum running! This keeps the library clean for all the library visitors.

I might use the elevator to go up or down.

Remember to keep all food at a table. These tables have blue chairs.

Here are the tables with blue chairs!

Here is the play area for kids.
I can choose a puzzle to play with.
There is always a creative play area. The toys might change.

This is a computer to check out my books. Can I find another computer that looks like this one?

This is the arts and crafts area. The craft may be different from one visit to the next.

This is a bathroom for me and my parent or caregiver.

I can ask a library worker to unlock the door for me.

Here is a library worker unlocking the door. Can I hear the key in the lock?

These are picture books. There are a lot of books.

I will try to remember to:

1. Be gentle with toys.

2. Toys, puzzles, and games need to stay at the library.

3. Use inside voice.

4. Use walking feet.

5. Clean up toys when I am done.

Books on shelves!

This is the teen space. This is for children who are in 6th grade through 12th grade.

This is another spot for teenagers to hang out in the library.

These books are in the Manga collection.

I will need to use a library card to check out materials.

Did I remember to bring my library card?

What does my library card look like?

I can check out books at these computers by myself.

These bathrooms are for everyone to use.

These are the hand washing sinks.

If I come into the library from Michigan St, these are the stairs that take me to the Circulation Desk.

The elevator is around this corner and...

...at the end of this hallway.

This is the elevator.

Which button should we push to get to where we are going?

This door goes to the Green Room.

If we park on Michigan Street, we can go into the library through this door.

And then this door.

This is the Library Plaza.

There are performances here such as musical bands, dancing, and storytime.

These bins on the side of the building are called the Book Drop. We can return books to the library here.
