Master Gardener Series: Inflammation • Adults

This session will cover chronic inflammation—its prevalence, many causes, symptoms, and the healing available through changes in our diet. We will look at how our gardens’ fruits and vegetables contribute their goodness to this healing process. Registration is required (to receive the Zoom link) at duluthlibrary.org.

Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club: Starter Villian • Adults

Gaining an inheritance can open up a lot of family mysteries. But for Charlie, who just inherited his uncle’s supervillain business, it’s a bit more complicated. November’s title is Starter Villian by John Scalzi. Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club meets monthly to discuss compelling titles within this genre, which features very real, human stories.

Exploring Genre: Speculative Fiction & Indigenous Futurisms

Join author Carter Meland to explore the elements of worldbuilding, character development, and plot construction that make speculative genres unique. A writer of Irish, Norwegian, and White Earth Anishinaabe heritage, Meland will expound on the relationship of Indigenous- and Afro-Futurism to speculative fiction and how that can make for transformative stories. Come for a dinosaur-themed storytime at 10:15 and stay for open playtime until 11:30 a.m. There will be activities for all kinds of movement and dinosaur exploration.

STEM Family Fun • Grades 2-5

Join us for a fun family morning exploring a variety of activities featuring Bell Museum STEM kits! Learn about chromatography, taxonomy and gravity. Engineer the perfect catapult or use an air cannon to hit your scientific targets. These activities are designed for families to explore together, so come prepared for everyone to have fun! Activities are geared to families with children ages 8–12. No need to register, just drop in!

Play & Learn for Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care Providers

Are you caring for the children of a family member, friend, or neighbor? Join us for a fun-filled morning of reading, singing, and playing together with the little ones in your care. The Sutter Brothers present a program that blends poems from Bart’s new book with Ross’ versions of songs from various folk traditions. Enjoy a ragtime tune for a river otter, an original hymn to Lake Superior, and more. No registration needed.

Read to a Dog • Elementary Age to Teen

Kids can practice their reading with Cruz the dog! Cruz loves to cuddle up and hear kids read him their favorite stories. Each child will sign up for a 10-minute reading slot when they arrive. Borrow a library book or bring your own.

Engineer Your Own City • Elementary Age to Teen

LEGO Club and STEM for Kids are teaming up to bring you a two-hour program featuring various STEM/building challenges. Have you ever thought about what it takes to be a city engineer? If you could design a city, what would it look like? We will work in teams to design roads, bridges, schools, transportation, skyscrapers, parks, and more. At the end, we’ll create a giant cityscape together!

Builder’s Club • Elementary Age to Teen

Do you love to build stuff? We’ll get out all the building toys, including LEGOS, Keva Planks, Gravitrax and more. We’ll also have a project of the month where we’ll construct and create with household building materials like cardboard, popsicle sticks and recycled materials. Geared to ages 5 and older.
