Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club: My Imaginary Mary Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club meets monthly to discuss compelling titles within this genre, which features very real, human stories. New members are always welcome! Do you know the story of Ada Lovelace? How about Mary Wollstonecraft? Did you know these women were just girls when they invented the world’s first automaton and named him Pan? Learn more in My Imaginary Mary by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. Star Wars: A New Hope - Anagong MiigaadingMovie Screening with Ojibwe Dub • Adults

Join us at Zeitgeist Zinema 2 for a free viewing of Star Wars: A New Hope dubbed in Anishinaabemowin, the Ojibwe language, with english subtitles. Follow ogichidaa Luke Skywalker on his quest to restore balance to the Force and bring peace to the galaxy, and hear the Ojibwe language celebrated in a new and fantastic way!

STORYTIMES

Family Storytime & Play • Birth to Pre-K

Start the morning with stories, rhymes, songs, and movement geared toward children from birth to preschool and their grownups. Afterwards, continue learning through play that builds both large and fine motor skills and helps get those wiggles out. Please note, storytime will be on a break until Wednesday, January 15. From then, Family Storytime will be held every Wednesday.

Baby Storytime • Birth to 24 Months

Join us for a brief storytime, ideal for babies birth-24 months. Stay afterwards for some early literacy playtime and socialization. Please note, storytime will be on a short break until Thursday, January 16.

From then on, Baby Storytime will be held every Thursday.

Ojibwe Family Storytime • Kids

Join us for a Family Storytime in Ojibwemowin, or Anishinaabemowin, led by Michelle Goose. We will be reading stories, singing songs and sharing rhymes in the Ojibwe language. Geared for kids ages 3 -8, but all are welcome! Sat. January 25 10:15-10:45 am Green

Dennis Warner in Concert • All Ages

Accompanying his vocals on six or twelve-string guitar, Dennis shares a blend of serious, thought-provoking songs with lighter, uptempo material. Read to a Dog • Kids and Tweens

Practice reading aloud with Cruz the dog! Cruz loves to cuddle up and hear kids read him their favorite stories. Each child will sign up for a 10-minute reading slot when they arrive. Borrow a library book or bring your own. Geared to kids and tweens. Sat. January 11 2:00-3:00 pm Gold

Wiggles for Littles • Birth to Kindergarten

Space to play for children, from birth to kindergarten, during the winter months! We will start with a brief storytime, then move into play! There will be activities for running, skipping, throwing, hopping, rolling, climbing, crawling, and dancing. Sat. January 18 10:15-11:30 am Gold/Green

Watercolor Winter Trees with Linnaea Rose • Adults

Learn all about watercolor and create your own winter masterpiece as you paint along with local artist, Linnaea Rose. All materials will be provided. Exclusively for adults. Registration is required.

Wellness Kit Assembly • All Ages

Stop by the Main Library and help assemble wellness kits for community members in need. Our goal is to pack 100 kits that have basic wellness items such as toothbrushes, hair combs, socks, and lip balms. All supplies will be provided.

Connecting with the Superior National Forest • All Ages

Learn about the 3.9 million acre forest in our backyard, the massive effort to take care of it, and the many ways you can be part of its stewardship! All ages are welcome to this program and to participate in stewardship of the Superior National Forest.

Ancient Roman Technology • Grades 2-5

Many incredible inventions were created in Ancient Rome. We are going to explore a few of those ideas in this fun hands-on STEM program. Recommended for grades 2–5. Registration required!

For those who love to build, featuring classic LEGO® fun. All sessions have a theme and various challenges—builders can take on a themed project or just free build, letting their imaginations guide their creations. Geared to kids ages 5 and up!

Movie and a Craft: The Wild Robot • Ages 5 through Teen

Join us for a movie with coloring and crafting! The Wild Robot (2024) is a film adaption of the book, which follows the stranded robot, Roz. Roz eventually befriends the locals and grows to care for an orphaned baby goose. The Wild Robot runs for 101 minutes and is rated PG. Suitable for kids, tweens, and teens, ages 5 and up. Fri. Fur Trade Nation with Carl Gawboy • All Ages Artist and author Carl Gawboy will present on his recent book, Fur Trade Nation: An Ojibwe’s Graphic History and discuss the hidden power of “unconventional” historical sources like oral tradition, art, hunting practices, and historical illustrations. Carl will share how drawing on such resources can break down barriers in research, uncovering stories of people once left out of historical narratives.

Ojibwe Floral Art...with Skittles! • All Ages

Make your own floral designs inspired by Ojibwe floral beadwork from Jessica Leigh Gokey’s coloring book—but the twist is we will be using Skittles instead of beads! All materials are provided, including edible glue! All ages welcome; no registration. Thurs. January 9 4:00-5:00 pm Evergreen

Stuffy Sleepover at the Library • Birth to Age 10
