2024 HAS LIFT OFF! Boost for traders as Dundalk ‘Shop Local’ By Tamara O’Connell A WHOPPING €2.5 million worth of Shop Local Gift Vouchers were sold in Dundalk last year, according to Dundalk Chamber of Commerce PRO, Paddy Malone. It brings total sales to over €8 million since the scheme’s launch, an unbelievable amount in such a short period of time. “We are half a million euro up on last year for various reasons including the fact that the economy is doing very well and there are new companies coming in,” said Paddy.
“In addition, there are a number of established indigenous companies expanding. Ten years ago a Department of Environment report was published citing Dundalk as the poorest of the gateway towns. “Dundalk ranked the lowest, just behind Letterkenny. That is not the situation any more. There has been an upturn in the economy and Dundalk is getting the benefit.” Paddy added: “Three years ago when Taoiseach Leo Varadkar visited Dundalk, I lobbied him at a public meeting in Rocksalt café in the town.
