Anger as off-duty garda is assaulted

Louth garda chief, Chief Supt. Christy Mangan has angrily condemned an attack last week on an off duty garda who was out socialising with his partner in Dundalk. The attack happened on Sunday 27th June on Park Street and resulted in the garda being brought to hospital where he received a number of stitches. According to a garda statement a man in his early 20’s was arrested on Monday before being released without charge.

“Gardaí in Dundalk are investigating the assault of an off-duty Garda on June 27, 2021 on Park Street in Dundalk.

A man in his early 20s was arrested yesterday, July 5, 2021 in connection with this matter. He has since been released without charge. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions,” read the statement. Continued on Page 2
