Eve McCrystal is back on home soil after a gruelling but very rewarding few weeks in Tokyo at the Paralympic Games. The Jenkinstown native was due to return home last night to a hero’s welcome with her three medals (two gold and a silver) which she won at the games with tandem partner Katie George Dunlevy.

The duo have enjoyed huge acclaim nationwide for their efforts in Tokyo which saw them claim gold in the road Time Trial before repeating that success with a tactical triumph in the road race. They also won silver at the Izu Velodrome in the Women’s B 3000m Individual Pursuit. These three medals have been added to their impressive haul of Paralympic medals that were already in their possession following gold and silver medal displays in Rio 2016.

The duo have enjoyed staggering success since teaming up at the 2014 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Greenville, Soith Carolina and between the worlds and the Paralympics they have won a total of seventeen medals with nine of those gold.

Load handling equipment provider Hiab have announced their intention to invest over €50 million to develop a new Factory of the Future in Dundalk for its MOFFETT truck mounted forklift manufacturing operations. The new factory will be operational by 2023 and in more good news the company have announced that they intend to hire an additional 100 staff for their Dundalk facility which already employs around 300 people.

When operational in 2023, the new facility will replace Hiab’s existing Dundalk facility.

There has been huge support back in Jenkinstown for Eve as family and friends watched on nervously each time she took to the start line.

Signs have been erected throughout area congratulating the pair on their success and the colour of the local post box has even been changed to gold in honour of their achievements. Speaking on her social media channels Eve thanked everybody for the support over the last few weeks while stating that she couldn’t wait to get home and see her two girls again.

The school raised the money through their annual Irish Dancing Feis and the brand new defibrillator will now be located outside the community centre.

Garry all set for the Euro’s

Local man Garry Hoey will board the plane to Poland this Friday ahead of the amputee European Championships which takes place between the 12th and 19th of September. Garry is a defender with the Irish Amputee side and currently plays in the national amputee football league with Bohemians who are the reigning league champions.

The Point Road man has been playing amputee football since 2012 when he joined the Irish Amputee Football Association.

He made his international debut against Great Britain in Limerick the following year and has since travelled all over the world playing with the national team, competing at two World Cups and a European Championships.

Back in 2009 while at work a car display ramp slipped and fell over, crushing Garry’s foot resulting in him being rushed to hospital where he remained for a month before a decision was made to have his right leg amputated from just below the knee joint.

Since his international debut in 2013 Garry has become one of the most impressive players in the country and he was amongst a select few chosen to represent the University of Limerick in the English Amputee Football Association League (EAFA).

will be hoping to qualify from a tough looking group C which include Russia, Belgium and Germany. Ireland will play Belgium in their first match of the tournament on Monday morning at 9am Irish time before taking on Germany on Tuesday (midday Irish time) and Russia on Wednesday (1:30pm Irish time). According to Garry confidence is high amongst the camp that they can improve on their sixth place finish at the last

European Championships and he admits there is some added pressure on the squad this time around given only the top six will qualify for the World Cup next year in Turkey.

“I feel we are a much better team than the one which I first started with seven or eight years ago. Everything is quicker and more intense and we have a lot of very talented players in the squad,” stated Garry.

“I’m probably one of the more experienced players in the squad now and I have seen the improvements first hand. I think the national amputee football league has definitely seen standards improve and we have all raised our level.

“We finished sixth in the last Euros and we want to better that and we are quietly confident that we will qualify from our group. There is added pressure as only the top six in the tournament will qualify for the world cup next year but we are looking forward to that challenge. It won’t be easy but I feel we’re strong enough to get out of the group probably alongside Russia who are one of the favourites for the tournament. Then it’s into the knockout stages and after that anything can happen,” he added.

Paula inducted into FAI Hall of Fame Dundalk’s Paula Gorham has been named as one of the Centenary Winners in the Hall of Fame category in recognition of her unique contribution to the history of Irish football in this, the Centenary Year of the FAI. Paula joined former Irish captain and manager Johnny Giles in the hall of fame which were announced by the FAI last week.

Paula, from Hyde Park, was part of the Dundalk Ladies team who played against Corinthians Nomads in a famous ground-breaking game in 1968 which saw the then sixteen year old score Dundalk’s only goal in a 7-1 defeat. That match was groundbreaking given the fact it was all but a full international played a full three years before the Women’s FAI was founded.

The fact that the game had to take place in Wales due to the fact that the English FA had banned women playing on their grounds since 1921, officially on the grounds that it was “quite unsuitable for females” showed how neglected the women’s

game was back in the early 70’s.

Paula’s first full international came three years after that Corinthians game and she marked her debut in style scoring a hattrick against Wales in a 3-2 victory in the first officially recognised wom-

en’s international for the Republic of Ireland.

Paula ended her Ireland career with 11 caps while she captained her country four times. In 2016 she and her former teammates were finally given a cap to mark their achievements playing with the national team.

Two years later they celebrated the 50th anniversary of that game against the Nomads and were awarded a meeting with the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabine.

Local schools celebrate excellent Leaving Cert results

Local students received their Leaving Certificate results last Friday and in the main reports coming back from the schools suggested that the vast majority of students were pleased.

Coláiste Chú Chulainn celebrated the Leaving Certificate Results for 112 students across 24 subjects which is the largest number of Leaving Certificate results in the school’s history.

Principal Thomas Sharkey, reflecting upon the student’s achievements remarked: “This year’s results are excellent. We believe that every student has achieved their very best and are well on the road to realising

their ambitions in further and higher education, training and employment. We are proud of every single student. ” “There have been some remarkable achievements in interesting times. But the students really rose to the challenge. We had a huge uptake in higher level maths and some fabulous grades including the top grade H1 across six foreign languages: French, German, Spanish, Russian, Romanian and Polish. We have students achieving 600 points and above, including a full company of H1s. Hannah Maguire achieved the maximum 625 points while Michael Dunne achieved over 600 points. The Leav-

ing Cert Applied group also set the bar very high with a third of all LCA candidates receiving Distinctions.”

The principal noted; “Each set of grades carries a child and family’s story of success and teachers’ stories of modelling, delivering and planning. It goes without saying, that it gives me enormous satisfaction to see that the students who have popped by the school, are happy with how things have gone”.

Year-head and Assistant Principal, Maria Nic Eochaidh swelled with pride at their achievements, in the context of a difficult year: “I am extremely proud of them, but I am not surprised at their successes.

They were a great bunch and are all amazing to have come through the last two difficult years. The whole school community is delighted for them. The results this year give them lots of options and opportunities for their futures. We wish them all the very best in their next steps.”

There was also a message for students, parents and staff from Board of Management Chairperson, and former inspector, Gerry McGuill: ‘I would like to congratulate all of the Coláiste Chú Chulainn students from the class of 2020/21 receiving their results. Of course, a big well done must also go to the staff, parents, and

guardians who have contributed to their success.”

It was also noted that “This year saw a number of new subjects in the school examined for the first time including; Politics and Society and the Leaving Cert Vocational Programme link modules, with top results achieved in them. That shows good vision from the staff and management in implementing these to help the students prepare for success.”

Mr Sharkey expressed his desire to hold a socially distanced reception to congratulate students and recognise their hard work.

Guidance Counsellors will also be available to offer support. Mr Sharkey

said that he had his fingers crossed for all students ahead of the Round 1 offers on Tuesday the 7th (2pm).

Meanwhile St Louis secondary school reported higher points than expected for majority of Leaving Certs.

St Louis Secondary School Principal Michelle Dolan said the Leaving Certificate Class of 2021 achieved “really outstanding” results this year.

“The group took advantage of the accredited grades and the exams. We had a high level of engagement with the exams and it paid off,” she said.

“The Leaving Cert Applied group also did very well. There was great joy

here on the day the results came out.

“They were delighted.

A lot of extra work went into facilitating the exams in terms of cleaning and sanitising to make sure the exams could happen.”

Principal Dolan added: “They got higher points than expected so we just hope the CAO system will be fair too.

“The girls found new ways to problem solve.

They are high achievers and got through the whole stress and challenge.

“We are very happy with their results. The doors should be open now to some of the most prestigious courses in the country.”

Dundalk Men’s Shed is preparing to celebrate its tenth anniversary on Wednesday, September 15.

According to Gene Yore from Dundalk Men’s Shed the club has been following Government guidelines and gradually re-opening.

“The Irish Men’s Sheds Association was waiting for the final decision by the Government,” he said.

“We have been following the guidelines and getting things up and running but this means we will be fully operational from September 22.

“I had to read the Government guidelines quite carefully about how many people are allowed indoors and outdoors.”

Gene added: “There’s a great need for people to get back because of the psychological difficulties lockdown brought.

“During lockdown we refurbished the place and got it up to a standard needed to get to this stage.

“It took a lot of work but we were able to get it done on a limited basis. It was an opportunity to make it fully operational and compliant with health and safety regulations.”

He continued: “We are celebrating our tenth anniversary soon. It will be mostly outdoors and totally in-line with regulations but we hope that there might be a little music or someone might sing a song.

“Everyone is full vaccinated and people have been very helpful in keeping the kitchen area clean and helping the committee to abide by the regulations.

“The pandemic has changed people. We all know someone who has been affected by Covid-19 and a lot of people are being very careful.”

New course available in DIFE for local beekeepers An exciting new era has opened up for beekeepers in Ireland where the Drogheda Institute of Further Education (DIFE) are running a QQI level 5 evening course on Beekeeping, beginning this September 2021.

The course is aimed at

people: Who wish to take up beekeeping, Who have had bees for a couple of years and would like to benefit from a refresher course.

People who have bees already and would like to earn a formal qualification.

The course will include: Practical demonstrations preparing honey for sale, swarm management, recovering and using wax, making mead, etc.

The course takes place over 12 weeks (Monday evenings) and will be a mixture of lectures and demon-

strations covering the major aspects of beekeeping.

Connecting People and communities, creating hope—World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day for 2021 is ‘Creating Hope Through Action’.

It is a timely reminder that we can all play our part in preventing suicide and demonstrate to those in our lives and communities, that there is hope.

Resource Officers for Suicide Prevention in the HSE Midlands Louth Meath Community Healthcare Organisation Josephine Rigney and Eddie Ward, acknowledge that ‘whilst suicide is a very complex issue, it is important that we always strive to signal to people who are vulnerable or experiencing suicidal thoughts, that we care and want to support them. At this time of the year, and particularly at all other times of the year, this helps to create a more compassionate society where those who need to, feel comfortable in coming forward to seek help’.

Josephine continues, ‘we can all make a difference to the lives of those around us, by adopting the theme ‘creating hope through action’ and taking on one or more of the following actions that can help to create hope’.

One of these is ‘Reach In’: Reach in and connect with someone who you know might be struggling or to someone you know has struggled before. Find some space and time to sit and be present with them. Use some open questions and tell them that you care. If they share things with you, listen – stay calm, be patient and kind. You don’t need to have all the answers. It can be really valuable for a person just to know that they are heard, and they are not alone at a difficult time’.

‘If you are feeling low yourself, it is important that you give yourself the opportunity to create hope,’ advises Eddie. ‘Always remember that sharing things with someone else will help. Reach out to talk to someone – someone close or even a support organisation. It may feel frightening at first, but you don’t need to know or have the right words. When you take the first small step and start to share what’s going on for you, everything will become clearer and you will feel more hopeful. Councils plant trees as a symbol of their joint work on climate adaption policies

Louth County Council and Newry, Mourne & Down District Council have held a joint tree planting ceremony to symbolise their joint approach to tackling climate change.

Both Councils work collaboratively on a range of social, economic and environmental issues for the benefit of their citizens as part of the Strategic Alliance formed in 2011. The Strategic Alliance meets on a regular basis to monitor and discuss a range of development projects and issues affecting both regions, including Climate Adaption policies.

The Councils share information and develop best practice in addressing the threats and opportunities posed by Climate Change. As well as looking at

practical projects such as renewable energy, energy storage, electric vehicles, biodiversity and preparedness for flooding, the group will organise events to share best practice and raise awareness as well as look at cross border funding opportunities.

In recognition of this joint action, both councils met on Thursday 2nd September to plant an Oak Tree in Ice House Hill Park, Dundalk and an Ornamental Pear Tree in Corry Park, Newry, as a symbol of the work they are engaged in around these policies.

Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Councillor Pio Smith and Newry, Mourne and Down Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason, who helped plant the trees, welcomed the work

done to date by both Councils.

Councillor Smith said, “I am delighted to plant this tree in this beautiful historic park. I commend this joined-up approach to addressing climate change. Trees provide a multitude of benefits, particularly in relation to improving air quality. They also have a positive impact on those living around them in terms of their mental health and wellbeing.”

Councillor Mason said, “I fully support the tree planting event which is one of a number of joint initiatives between both councils. Trees not only improve the appearance of an area but also help reduce pollution from passing traffic, mitigate against climate change risks and improve the area for biodiversity.”

Ruairí pays tribute to ‘tireless community worker’

Deputy Ruairí Ó Murchú’s tribute to the late Kevin Mulgrew Family was the watchword for Kevin Mulgrew, who died peacefully at his home at Finnabair Crescent in Dundalk on September 5 2021 after a long battle with cancer.

Kevin, who would have been 66 next month, was a former political prisoner who was first arrested in the North shortly after his sixteenth birthday and will be remembered in Dundalk as a man who fought for peace and justice through his leading roles with Fáilte Abhaile, Muirhevnamór Community Council and as a board member of Louth Leader Partnership.

Son of the late James and Lucy

(nee Mackle) Mulgrew, Kevin was the tenth of 13 children. The family grew up on the Tyrone/ Derry border before moving to Belfast in the 1960s.

The family was, however, dealt a devastating blow, the day before Kevin’s fifteenth birthday, when his beloved mother died from cancer in 1970, aged just 53. Despite his obvious intellect and his critical thinking abilities, Kevin did not go onto third level education, but, rather, like many young men of his generation, joined the Republican movement.

He dedicated himself to the movement and was arrested for the first time, along with two of his brothers, in 1972. They were

taken to the notorious Girdwood Barracks in Belfast, where those detaining him found his mother’s memorial card in Kevin’s pocket and ripped it up. Kevin managed to put it together again and carried it with him for many years.

The Mulgrew family was deal another blow, in 1976, when Kevin’s brother, Colm, was shot dead at his home in Belfast.

Kevin continued his involvement with the Republican movement, despite frequent arrests, multiple spells on remand and almost weekly raids on his home by the British Army and the RUC. He remained the focus of British state forces for many years and normal life was disrupted by his need to constantly move.

Kevin was one of 18 men convicted on the word of discredited ‘supergrass’ Christopher Black in 1981. He was given the biggest sentence handed down in a British court – 963 years. He served five years before the erroneous conviction was overturned in 86.

On his release, he returned to his home in Belfast and formed a lifelong, unbreakable partnership with Rosie Hale, with whom he had three children – Kevin, Therese and Dominic.

Kevin and Rosie moved to Dundalk in 1990 and made the town their home. At the heart of Kevin’s life was his family – his beloved Rosie, whom he married five years ago, their children, and later grandchildren and his much-

loved siblings, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.

Kevin’s continuous desire to learn new things, to challenge himself and others, to work for justice, led him to becoming involved in a number of organisations including the seminal exprisoners group, Failte Abhaile, as well as the Muirhevnamor Community Council and later, Louth Leader Partnership.

He made a huge contribution to community life in Dundalk, with a particular focus on those affected by conflict. Although he never waivered in his political beliefs, Kevin was at the forefront of listening to others who had experienced the conflict from a different perspective.

He played a key role in discussions in the Republican movement before and after the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, with many former prisoners contacting him to hear his views on the next steps.

The Republican movement has lost a titan with the passing of my incredible friend Kevin. He was always positive in his outlook, strong in his arguments and the epitome of a true Republican. I will miss him greatly.

Kevin in survived by his wife, Rosie (nee Hale), daughter Therese, sons Dominic and Kevin, his three grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and a wide circle of family and friends.

Discoloured tap water an on-going issue in Dundalk Irish Water have started phase two of watermains flushing as they look to fix the ongoing issue of discoloured water around many parts of the town.

Following a large burst in Dundalk in June, manganese sediment became dislodged and carried through the network causing some customers to experience temporary discoloured water. These essential flushing works are required to clear any remaining manganese sediment from

the distribution network and reduce the likelihood of future discolouration issues at the customer tap.

The first phase was completed last Friday while the second phase commenced on Monday 6 September. While these essential works are ongoing, customers in the following locations will experience temporary discoloured water as sediment becomes dislodged and is removed by the flushing works between Monday 6 September and Fri-

National Tile considering running course to address severe shortage of tilers There was much fanfare surrounding the government’s €4b per year ‘Housing for All’ plan which aims to deliver 300,000 homes by the end of 2030. These homes will be made up of 90,000 social homes, 36,000 affordable homes, 18,000 cost rental homes – with 156,000 homes being private sector. However, for many in the construction industry one question the same question was being asked by many. Who is going to build all these houses?

Whilst construction employment has grown by 50,000 since the economic crash a decade ago, apprenticeship numbers have in some trades failed to record significant improvements and declined in some important subsectors, such as the wet-trades – bricklaying, plastering, painting and decorating and tiling.

According to Graham Purcell, the manging director of Dundalk company National Tile, the lack of tilers in particular coming through has reached crisis point. In fact numbers are now so low Graham is considering opening a school in National Tile to try and encourage people to learn the trade.

“There is a massive shortage of apprentices coming through in the wet trades in particular (Plasterers, plumbers, tilers, bricklaying etc) and that is going to cause huge issues down the line for our construction sector. I can tell you myself that the list of tilers we used to recommend to people has gotten considerably shorter over the last decade and the youngest guy on that list now would be in his 40’s.

Unfortunately there is very little if any emphasis on recommending a trade to students in schools and maybe an over emphasis on ensuring kids get a third level education. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against students going down the third level route at all but it is not for everybody and for some bizarre reason there is a mindset in this country that if you go down the apprenticeship route and get a trade that it’s almost like you have failed,” explained Graham.

“It’s a completely different mindset in the likes of Germany where the guy who goes down the apprenticeship route is seen as an equal to those who choose third level. Those who choose a trade are choosing rewarding, well-paid careers and given the nature of the work they are generally in great shape and not sat at a desk for eight to ten hours a day doing untold damage to their bodies. I think a lot of parents see these kind of jobs as dirty work and a lot of kids who are going to universities are feeding their parents aspirations rather than their own.

“There is good money in choosing a career such as tiling and unlike many other professions which can see a student studying for maybe six or seven years before heading out into the workforce a tiler will be qualified much quicker. I’d be surprised if any tiler with two or three years experience is not making more than many other professionals with thirty years experience,” noted Graham.

“It’s difficult and frustrating for many companies in our sector to see the lack of people taking up apprenticeships and we have been toying with the idea to maybe start some evening or weekend classes and run a course to teach people the basics of tiling. There will be no shortage of work over the next number of years for tilers and all other trades and we are inviting people to register their interest to us to see if there is a demand to put on some sort of course.

If we get the numbers the plan is to set up a demo area and teach people how to fit a floor, square off a room and then tile it. We will teach them the basics and hopefully send them on the road to becoming a tiler. We are taking this into our own hands because something needs to be done quickly as numbers are dwindling dramatically,” concluded Graham.

Specsavers expands store bringing the best in optical and hearing care to Dundalk

Specsavers Dundalk has undergone an impressive expansion and store refurbishment. The expansion of the Dundalk store was essential to keep up with the demand of optical and hearing services, and to ensure the best experience for customers in store.

Having achieved 17 successful years in business, it was time to reinvest in the store and expand its offering to customers.

A state-of-the-art optical and audiology facility, Specsavers Dundalk will now sit across two floors, doubling in size.

Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the town, Specsavers has invested in an extensive renovation, creating eight new local jobs. The expansion has also resulted in two new optical testing rooms, a second audiology room and a paediatric and contact lens centre.

Upstairs, Dundalk has established a paediatric centre, with two specialist opticians holding a Professional Certificate in Paediatric eyecare. There will also be a dedicated contact lens centre where customers can speak to the experts about the best contact lenses for them and avail of a contact lens fitting.

The store has also invested in sophisticated optical technology such as the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanner, a cutting-edge piece of equipment, usually found in hospital eye departments.

In addition to being experts in eye health, Specsavers Dundalk also specialises in hearing with an on-site hearing centre, overseen by audiologist Paula Owens. The store provides free three-minute hearing screenings, with no need to book an appointment and the screener lets customers know whether they would benefit from a full hearing test, which takes about an hour.

Since opening in 2004, the staff has expanded from a team of nine to more than 40. The expert team consists of six opticians, two audiologists and a lab team.

Cooley Camino for Rape Crisis North East The Cooley Camino for Rape Crisis North East is a 10k sponsored walk in the Cooley mountains to raise funds for the ever increasing demand on our services.

We are asking those who register to try and raise €100 each in sponsorship. Participants are asked to meet at 10.30am on Sunday 12th September in Carlingford Car Park to register, collect their tee-shirts and stretch their legs in preparation for this stunning walk.

The walk will be very kindly led by Clodagh McKevitt of Anam Tours who is giving her time and expertise free of charge.

Clodagh will regale everyone with tall and short tales of the surrounding landscape and folklore.

The walk will finish back in the Foy Community Centre and tea/coffee and sandwiches will be served with a celebratory atmosphere.

Events planned to mark Nissan celebrates 250,000 EV sales across Europe World Suicide Day Dundalk and Drogheda will host public events to remember those who died by suicide as Louth marks World Suicide Prevention Day on Friday.

Newly-formed support organisation, Let’s Talk Mental Health and Addiction, is asking people in both towns to stand in solidarity with the families of lost loved ones.

In line with previous years, hundreds of pairs of shoes will be placed on the steps of St Peter’s Church in Drogheda as a powerful symbol of the toll suicide has taken across the region.

In Dundalk, a special ceremony will take place in the Square.

Data from the HSE’s National Office for Suicide Prevention shows that 340 people took their own lives in Ireland in 2020 – 259 men and 81 women.

That compares to 421 in 2019 - but experts warn last year’s figure could be higher as the pandemic caused the closure of public Coroner’s courts - meaning deaths by suicide have not yet been registered.

Almost 3,000 people on average take their own lives daily, according to World Health Organisation figures, with another 20 or more attempting to end their lives for every one that succeeds.

“This is our fifth year running this event to mark World Suicide Prevention Day and is our way

of remembering loved ones that have taken their own lives prematurely through suicide,” said Cllr Declan Power, a trustee of Let’s Talk.

“At 5pm on Friday in Drogheda, Cllr Pio Smith, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, will speak on the steps of the church, on behalf of the Red Door Project, about dual diagnosis.

“This is where a person suffers from both a substance addiction problem and another mental health issue such as depression or an anxiety disorder.

“We will also have a display of 500 pairs of shoes on the steps, placed in memory of loved ones lost through suicide.

“Mayor of Drogheda, Cllr James Byrne, will light a remembrance candle and a one-minute reflective silence will also take place as the bells toll in Dundalk and Drogheda. Taking to the clouds above will be two white doves as part of the remembrance ceremony.”

In Dundalk, a ceremony will take place in the Square at 1pm.

“We are asking people to stop, reflect and think of somebody they know that has taken their own life,” said Cllr Power.

“We are also inviting people to display a photograph of a loved one in our ceremonial area. This year has been particularly tough and challenging for all of us.

Sometimes we have to press the pause button and hit reset when we feel that life is getting us down.”

The public is welcome to attend both events but is asked to remain mindful of social distancing and mask-wearing.

Let’s Talk chairperson, Anita McCann, said the group’s aim is to provide a holistic approach alongside access to counselling, support workers and supportive advocacy. The organisation, in the process of applying for charitable status, will support those affected by mental health and addiction issues, and their families, across the North East.

“We want to make this about the individuals, their families who seek our help and support and provide them with the best possible service and empower them to have a voice in their recovery and support needs,” she said.

“We will also provide information, training, mentoring and coaching to individuals, family members, healthcare professions, service providers and policymakers.”

New free weekly junior parkrun at DkIT A new, free, weekly event for children aged 4 – 14 has come to town! Junior parkrun is up and running at DKIT playing pitches, which are located to the rear of the DKIT campus. It takes place every Sunday morning at 9.30.

Junior parkrun is a series of 2km runs, for children, held in areas of open space around Ireland, the UK and Australia.

They are open to all, free and are safe and easy to take part in. The courses are marshalled so that juniors will be in sight of at least one marshal at all times.

Children should be aged 4 and over to take part and can register a junior parkrun performance until the day before their 15th birthday.
