Concerns over fire risk in forest

Concerned residents in Ballymakellet near Ravensdale have pleaded with Louth County Council to put up signs warning people of the dangers of having bbq’s in the forest after the fire service were called last week to extinguish a fire close to the popular spot Foyles Way. Local residents found the poorly extinguished camp fire after they saw smoke while walking in the mountains. A local resident said: ‘It was clear food had been cooked over a camp fire as a grill pan had been left behind along with several plastic water bottles. It was clear attempts had been made to extinguish the fire, and those responsible no doubt thought the camp fire had successfully been extinguished, however this was not the case. Continued on Page 2
