In nine days time Jenkinstown native Eve McCrystal and Katie George Dunlevy will attempt to bring down the curtain on their hugely successful paracycling partnership by bringing home a gold medal from Tokyo in the upcoming Paralympic Games. Eve, a member of San Garda Siochána, has formed a magnificent partnership with Katie-George Dunleavy and the duo have have been amongst the most successful Para Athletes ever to have represented Ireland having medalled consistently at World and Paralympic Games since 2014. Katie George Dunlevy is based in Crawley, West Sussex and has a background in rowing, she has a visual impairment. Eve McCrystal is one of Ireland’s best cyclists having won multiple individual titles. In Para-cycling the stoker (Katie George) is the rider with the visual impairment sitting on the back of the bike, with the pilot (Eve) steering the bike. Drug gangs ‘are like The Taliban’ Drug gangs are ‘like the Taliban, destroying communities with fear and gangsterism’, says Sinn Féin TD Ruairí Ó Murchú. The Dundalk TD was speaking after the seizure of an estimated €650,000 worth of ‘benzos’ in Dundalk on Thursday by Gardaí. Last week, it was reported that the Taliban are overrunning Afghanistan again following the withdrawal of US troops. Deputy Ó Murchú said areas ravaged by drugs are ‘like communities in Afghanistan – living in fear of those who want to impose their way as they profit from poisoning society’. Continued on Page 2
