Dundalk shoppers have again been urged to support their town this Christmas and shop locally if they want their town to prosper and grow over the coming years. According to Paddy Malone, President of the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce the message to shoppers in Dundalk is straight forward. “Our message to shoppers in Dundalk this year is a very simple one. Shop locally and help your local economy. Every time you shop in Dundalk you are helping to create a job and keeping money in our town” he explained. “Things have improved with regards to the amount of people travelling to Newry for their shopping and

we must strive to continue that trend going. We now need to capitalise on the situation so that Dundalk can again be the focal retail point not just for local people but for the north east.’ Mr Malone went on to explain how shopping local has all the obvious benefits while also binding the community together. “Shoppers generate wealth, employment and opportunity and are the glue which binds communities together” “We would ask the people who are shopping elsewhere to give the town a chance and I would say to them that they will get a pleasant surprise with regards to prices in Dundalk. “2009 and 2010 were bad years for traders in Dundalk Continued on Page 18

Conor to create a buzz on St Stephen’s Day By Paul Byrne The Christmas period around Blackrock would not be complete without a Conor Hughes fundraiser to entertain the masses on Blackrock beach and this St Stephen’s Day sees

that trend continue with the theme of the fundraiser being the humble ’bee’. This 26th of December in Blackrock will see the launch of a new self-help initiative for poverty stricken West Africian communities.

For every €65 raised, Crosscause can place a bee hive with a rural family. When the honey bees have produced,the honey it is then sold for the benefit of the family. Continued on page 17
