A LOCAL family are celebrating an early Christmas present after a young boy emerged unscathed following a freak festive accident. The boy was out shopping with family members when he fell from an escalator in the Penneys shop in the Marshes. Shocked onlookers feared the boy had been seriously hurt in the fall, but fortunately he was uninjured, although somewhat shaken, by the incident. It is understood the boy was climbing on the outerside of the escalators leading to the first floor when he fell. Staff, shoppers and family reacted quickly in coming to his aid. Emergency services at-
tended the scene and the boy was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital but he did not suffer any serious injury. One shopper who was in Penneys at the time of the accident described what she saw. “I was just after coming from the till when I heard screaming and people running to the balcony. “Somebody said that a child had fallen down and we could hear screams from downstairs. There was a woman crying and everybody was in shock. We were all just hoping that everything would be ok. “We didn’t want to go over to see exactly what happened so we just left the shop at that stage”, she added.
