WHILE Martin Sludden will always be public enemy number one for Louth sports fans, Anthony Buttimer put himself forward as a contender after a performance in the FAI Cup semi final which Stephen Kenny called both ‘a farce’ and ‘a bad day for refereeing in Ireland’. Buttimer’s decision to send off Chris Shields in the 31st minute and award Drogheda a penalty left onlookers scratching their heads as it had appeared that Shields had won the ball before Drogheda’s Declan O’Brien went down in the box. The Cork referee had already provoked anger in the Dundalk ranks having sent off Darren Meenan just four minutes earlier. Shields sending off cou-

However the nine men produced a heroic performance and almost snatched a deserved equaliser when Tiarnan Mulvenna’s rasping shot was palmed away by Michael Slingerman in the Drogheda goal. One of the largest international cycling races the Giro D’Italia is coming to Dundalk on May 11. Giro D’Italia is an annual race held primarily in Italy and

occasionally travels to other European countries. Along with the Tour D’France and the Vuelta a Espana, the Giro D’Italia makes-up the three Grande Tours of cycling.
