Amy clinches European boxing title By Paul Byrne
Dundalk’s hugely talented boxer Amy Broadhurst added the European title to the EU championship she won last year with a magnificent performance in Hungary last weekend. The 16-year-old who is a member of Dealgan Boxing Club in Dundalk claimed gold in the 57kg category thanks to a comprehensive victory over France’s Elisa Bouchlaka in the final. The Dundalk southpaw got the nod from all three judges across the board much to the delight of her family and supporters who had made the journey to Hungary to support the talented boxer. The talented young boxer arrived home on Sunday night to be greeted by family and friends at her house in Amy Broadhurst celebrates her victory in Hungary
Dundalk and she says she will now take a couple of weeks off before she gets ready for the World Championships in Russia this September. “I got back to Dundalk on Sunday evening and it was lovely to see all my family and friends back at the house waiting to congratulate me. It’s been an amazing year for me and to win gold in Hungary was just the icing on the cake” said Amy. “The first fight in Hungary against the Turkish girl was actually my toughest fight but thankfully I managed to get through and after that I grew in confidence and managed to win the gold” added the now double European gold medallist. “The plan now is to relax for a couple of weeks before heading back to the club Continued on Page 19
Wee County to invade Kildare By Paul Byrne Kildare are preparing themselves for a Wee County invasion over the next few days as both the Louth footballers and the St Brigids Way pilgrims make their way to the ‘Short Grass County’. Louth’s footballers take on Kildare in a crucial football qualifier this Saturday where they hope to continue their journey on the road to All-Ireland glory. Louth will be just a game away from the All-Ireland quarter finals if they can beat Kildare but a loss will see them dumped out of the championship.
