Why study in Duoc UC? Duoc UC is a non-profit, private institution of higher education with 48 years of experience. We offer two and a half year Technical Programs and four-year Professional Programs. In 2010, we received a 7 out of 7 years of institutional accreditation from the Accreditation National Agency, which certifies the quality of our educational project and its relevance among the higher education institutions in our country. Only three higher education institutions in Chile have been granted this distinction. Duoc UC is the only Professional institute, alongside with, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile, the most important two Universities in the country, to have ever received this recognition.
Exchange Program and Study Abroad Programs Exchange programs: : Exchange students may apply to all our programs without paying tuition fees at Duoc UC. Check that your home institution has an ongoing exchange agreement with us. Study abroad programs: : If your home institution does not have an exchange agreement you can apply through our study abroad program. Study abroad students may also apply to all of our programs for one or two semesters, but do have to pay tuition fees to Duoc UC. Fees for 2016 differ among programs for further information please refer to mjimenezt@duoc.cl. Fees are based on a standard enrolment of 50 credit points per semester. Undertaking additional credit will incur additional fees on a pro rata basis. 1° Semester: March – July 2° Semester: August – December Application deadlines 15 August– 15 October*: Application for the first semester 15 February – 15 April*: Application for the second semester *We advise students with Chinese nationality to apply as soon as the application period begins since the visa procedure can take up to six months.
Exchange Program and Study Abroad Programs Tourism And Hospitality A Tourism & Hospitality graduate is a professional, who is able to design, develop, manage, and market tourist products using international standards. A graduate is able to host and assist customers from different cultural backgrounds and satisfy their particular needs, in accordance with current accepted standards. A graduate is able to develop sustainable tourism and hospitality projects in compliance with the best practices of corporate and social responsibility. This Program will allow students to obtain one of the corresponding certificates: Tour Guide Certificate (2 semesters) Receptionist & Housekeeper Certificate (1 semester) Reservations & BSP Agent Certificate (1 semester) Marketing & Sales Agent Certificate (1 semester) Meeting & Convention Manager Certificate (1 semester) We are the only Higher Education Institution in Chile that offers this program completely taught in English. This program includes field trips both in and outside of Chile, and it can last one or two semesters. In spite of being a program fully taught in English, students can take up to two courses in Spanish in order to bring the language closer to their experience inside the classroom. Tailor-made Courses Weaving from the Andes to the Pacific Objective: Get to know the textile culture of South Latin America and their local craft techniques with the objective of developing a personal textile based on them, within the principles of ethical fashion and contemporary design. Course Descripction: A 2 week Workshop, in which students tour the influences of local crafts and textile techniques. Including visits to museums and textile craft centres in Santiago and Valparaíso, you will get to discover the past of pre-columbian cultures and their technical and aesthetic influence in the present, and then implement and develop a personal workshop proposal in contemporary textile . The workshop will end with: “Pasarela Valparaíso 2017”, a fashion show that takes place in the city of Valparaiso, Chile. Contents Andean and pre-Columbian textiles Spinning , dyeing and weaving craft Referentes fashion - textile in Chile and South America - Principles of Ethical Fashion locally applicable. Tailor-made Courses Doing Business in Latin America This course gives students a comprehensive geographical, historical, cultural and political background of the region in order to enable him/her to develop and understand on how to do business in Latin America. The course also reviews study cases in several Latin American countries, by taking a look at their most relevant problems. Contents Identification of the business environment context in Latin America. Issues that affect business in Latin American countries. FTAs in the region. Tailor-made Courses Food and Wine Harmony, Wine Service and Tasting During this course the student will learn about the evaluation, analysis and production of Chilean wines, as well as getting to know and understand the elaboration process in the vineyard itself, and how our sensory receptors work to highlight the attributes of each grape in order to create a perfect paring with food. The activities during the course have a theoretical/practical approach, where participants can deepen their knowledge about the characteristics of the wines in tasting workshops Duration: and field trips to wineries, where they will have the chance to 100 hours understand and learn about the elaboration process of the different wine varieties.
Technology for earthquake-resistant construction in earthquake risk countries The aim of this course is that participants learn the regulations and technologies for the design, construction, diagnosis, and reinforcement of earthquake-resistant constructions, and for them to later be able to apply them in their countries of origin. Participants will learn and study through seminars, experiments and inspection field trips the regulations and technologies of earthquake-resistant constructions. They will also elaborate action proposals based in the knowledge and experiences acquired during the course. The course includes: lectures, field trips and application workshops of the contents reviewed in class. Did you know that Chilean seismic construction is already a world model? After 2010’s earthquake, which had a magnitude of 8.8, the country has developed systems that have made it one of the leaders in these technologies. You can also be a specialist!
