La Región de Valparaíso se perfila como la puerta de entrada a Chile por vía terrestre, a través del Paso Los Libertadores; por vía marítima, a través del Puerto de Valparaíso; o por vía área, mediante el principal aeropuerto del país, Arturo Merino Benítez en Santiago, desplazándose por la Ruta 68 que une Santiago con la Quinta Región, con una distancia de 108 km. VALPARAÍSO CIUDAD PATRIMONIO DE LA HUMANIDAD (UNESCO) En el año 2003, el Comité del Patrimonio Mundial de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO), en París, Francia, resolvió favorablemente, por unanimidad, la inscripción de un Sector del Área Histórica de la ciudad-puerto de Valparaíso en la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial. El Centro Histórico de esta ciudad corresponde a un sector de carácter marítimo-portuario, cuyo trazado y arquitectura son una respuesta a un medio geográfico y topográfico muy particular. Las condiciones geográficas fueron en este caso tan fuertes, que la adaptación de las formas construidas al medio, dio lugar a un resultado plenamente original y singular. Junto con otros núcleos urbanos vecinos como Viña del Mar, Concón, Quilpué y Villa Alemana, la ciudad forma parte de la conurbación del Gran Valparaíso. Se presenta en forma de un gran anfiteatro natural, estando emplazada en una bahía rodeada de cerros, en los que vive la mayor parte de la población. Entre el pie de los cerros y el mar se forma el plan de Valparaíso, centro administrativo, comercial y financiero; mientras que el bordemar se encuentra ocupado por el puerto.

MOVILIZACIÓN DENTRO DE LA CIUDAD DE VALPARAÍSO: TAXIS: Se recomienda abordar en la esquina de Rawson con Pedro Montt, a un costado del Terminal de Buses (Rodoviario). Antes de subir al taxi, consulta el valor desde donde lo abordas y hasta tu destino. Los Taxi, son de color negro con techo amarillo y pueden llevarte a donde les solicites. RADIOTAXIS: vehículos que puedes llamar por teléfono para que te recojan en el lugar que les indiques. Debes preguntar la hora en que pueden pasar por ti o pedirles una hora programada con antelación. También debes consultar el valor que te cobrarán, previo al servicio. COLECTIVO: son vehículos que tienen un valor fijo por tramos. Son de color negro y en el techo llevan un cartel con diversos colores, números y letras que te indican dónde ir. Si tienes dudas consulta directamente al chofer si su recorrido llega al lugar que quieres ir. Pueden llevarte a diversos rincones de la ciudad y ciudades vecinas. MICROBUSES: Existen algunos que tienen recorridos entre varias localidades, como Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Con-Cón, Quilpué y Villa Alemana. Al igual que los colectivos, tienen un valor fijo por tramos y traen en su ventana principal un cartel que indica el lugar al que te puedes dirigir. METRO DE VALPARAÍSO: Éste recorre desde el Casco Histórico de Valparaíso hasta Limache, pasando por Viña del Mar, Quilpué y Villa Alemana. Para viajar en este sistema de transporte es necesario tener una tarjeta que se pueda adquirir en cualquier estación, siendo necesario recargarla. Horarios: lun-vie 06:00 a 23:00 horas. Sábado 07:00 a 23:00 horas. Domingo y festivos 08:00 a 23:00 horas. Para Transportarte por este medio, debes comprar una tarjeta en sus estaciones, por un valor de $1.200, y cargarla. 2.- CEMENTERIOS / CEMETERIES 2.1.- CEMENTERIO DISIDENTES Localización: Calle Dinamarca S/N, Cerro Panteón, Valparaíso Reseña: El Cementerio de Disidentes fue durante 30 años el único lugar disponible en Chile para sepultar a quienes profesaban religiones diferentes a la católica. Comenzó a funcionar en 1825 cuando la ciudad, previa autorización de las autoridades santiaguinas, vendió una hectárea de terreno al Reino Unido para construir un camposanto alternativo. Su estética, dominada por mausoleos de mármol blanco, recuerda los cementerios ingleses. Un monumento, que data de 1881, recuerda al Reverendo David Trumbull, teólogo protestante norteamericano que alentó la diversidad religiosa en Valparaíso. Destaca también la tumba de la condesa Elizabeth Ernst Leitner, por los ángeles traídos desde Italia que la adornan. Fue Declarado Monumento Histórico en el año 2005
2.1. - DISSIDENT CEMETERY Location: Dinamarca Street S / N, Panteón Hill, Valparaíso Review: The Dissident’s Cemetery was for 30 years the only place available in Chile to bury those who professed religions other than Catholic. It became operational in 1825, when the city, following authorization by the authorities from Santiago, sold a hectare of land to the UK to build an alternative cemetery. Its aesthetics, dominated by white marble mausoleums, recalls the British cemeteries. A monument, dating from 1881, remembers the Reverend David Trumbull, American Protestant theologian who encouraged religious diversity in Valparaíso. The tomb of Countess Elizabeth Ernst Leitner outstands by the angels brought from Italy that adorn it. It was declared a historical monument in 2005.
2.2.- CEMENTERIO N°1 El Cementerio 1, fue inaugurado en 1822, un año antes que su vecino Disidentes. Es un genuino museo arquitectónico y desde la entrada se hace notar su clasicismo renacentista, con un pórtico helénico de columnas dóricas. Adentro luce una réplica de La Pietá de Miguel Ángel. En el cementerio número 1 está el Mausoleo de los Baburizza. También se encuentra sepultado el fundador de Viña del Mar, José Francisco Vergara, el Vicealmirante Simpson, el Almirante Goñi, la señora Carmela Chacón de Prat, viuda de nuestro héroe de Iquique, y el periodista y dibujante Renzo Pecheninno, Lukas (cuya tumba simula un bote de papel).
2.2. - CEMETERY NO.1 Location: Panteón Hill, Valparaíso Review: The Cemetery 1 was opened in 1822, a year before its neighboring Dissidents Cemetery. It is a genuine architectural museum and of an evident Renaissance Classicism design with a Greek grand portico of Doric columns. It harbors a replica of Michelangelo's Piet . In this cemetery you can find the Mausoleum of the Baburizza family. Also buried here are the founder of Viña del Mar, José Francisco Vergara; Vice Admiral Simpson; Admiral Goñi; Mrs. Carmela Prat Chacon, widow to our hero of Iquique; and journalist and artist Renzo Pecheninno, aka Lukas , whose tomb simulates a paper boat.
2.3.- CEMENTERIO PLAYA ANCHA Localización: Cerro Playa Ancha, Valparaíso Reseña: En agosto de 1887 nace en terrenos de Playa Ancha el conocido cementerio Nº3 de Valparaíso, hoy cementerio de Playa Ancha. Este camposanto forma parte de la historia de la ciudad puerto otorgando el descanso a grandes personajes y fundadores de la ciudad de Valparaíso Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Destaca el legendario Emile Dubois; su animita en el Cementerio Playa Ancha está atiborrada de placas de gratitud. Es el santo pagano del Puerto: un ladrón que robaba a los ricos para dar a los pobres, dice la leyenda; un asesino que robaba para sí mismo, dicta la sentencia de 1907 que lo mandó al patíbulo.

This cemetery is part of the city’s history giving rest to great characters and founders of the city of Valparaíso, now a World Heritage Site. The legendary Emile Dubois can be found here; his tombstone is filled with plates of gratitude. He is the Port’s pagan saint: a thief who robbed the rich to give the poor, says the legend; a murderer who stole for personal profit, says his death sentence from 1907.

8.- PASEOS / WALKS 8.1.- PASEO 21 DE MAYO Localización: su acceso es a través del Ascensor Artillería y Plazuela Aduana, pero también se puede llegar por las Calles Carampangue o Taqueadero. No te pierdas en este paseo su mirador, la feria artesanal y el Museo Naval y Marítimo, además de una de las mejores vistas panorámicas de la ciudad.

9.3. - PLAZA O'HIGGINS Location: El Almendral neighborhood, between Pedro Montt, Rawson, Victoria and Uruguay streets, next to the National Congress building. This square reflects the city’s everyday life. You can visit the “La Merced” Antiques and Book Fair and take a beautiful souvenir of the city.
5.- EDIFICIOS O PALACIOS IMPERDIBLES / MUST-SEE BUILDINGS OR PALACES
3.1.- CERROS ALEGRE Y CONCEPCIÓN (ZT) Reseña: Sector declarado zona típica en el año 1979. La historia urbana de estos cerros es parte integral de la de Valparaíso. Ya durante el período colonial los terrenos de sus faldeos fueron objeto de transacciones, siendo sus primeros dueños la orden de San Agustín y diferentes particulares.
3.1. – ALEGRE and CONCEPCIÓN HILLS Review: Sector declared typical zone in 1979. The urban history of these hills is an integral part of Valparaíso. Already during the colonial period the grounds of its slopes were subject to transaction, being its first owners the Order of St. Augustine and different individuals.
3.2.- CERRO ARTILLERÍA Reseña: Su nombre proviene del Cuartel de Artillería, construido en 1887 en su cima. Esta es una de las mejores vistas del puerto y la bahía de Valparaíso. Los atractivos que allí se pueden encontrar son: Museo Naval y Marítimo, Paseo 21 de Mayo, Ascensor Artillería, Antigua Escuela Naval, la feria artesanal, además de distintos espacios tales como café, miradores, donde poder disfrutar.
3.2. - ARTILLERIA HILL Review: Its name comes from the Artillery Barracks, built in 1887 on its top. This is one of the best views of the harbor and the bay of Valparaíso. The attractions found there are: Naval and Maritime Museum, 21 de Mayo walkway, Artillería Elevator, the former Naval Academy, Handcraft fair, plus various spaces to enjoy such as cafes and lookouts.
3.3.- CERRO BELLAVISTA Reseña: : El cerro Bellavista posee este nombre por la hermosa panorámica que desde él se tiene, debido a que está situado en el sector central de la cadena de cerros porteños, permitiendo una visión de la bahía de Valparaíso, del plan y del resto de los cerros.

4.- CONSTRUCCIONES DEL MAR / SEASHORE CONSTRUCTIONS 4.1.- PUERTO DE VALPARAÍSO El puerto de Valparaíso es el más emblemático del país. A él llegan barcos de carga de todo el mundo, barcos de crucero en la época de verano, es el puerto base de la Armada de Chile y sede de su Comandancia en Jefe. Allí están atracados los buques de guerra más importantes de la nación, muchos pequeños botes pesqueros, buques mercantes y pesqueros de gran tamaño y el dique "Sociber" para la reparación de éstos, entre otros.
4.1. – VALPARAÍSO HARBOR The port of Valparaíso is the most emblematic of the country. Cargo ships from all over the world dock here; cruise ships in the summer; it is the home port of the Chilean Navy and the seat of its Commander in Chief. The nation’s most important warships are docked here, as well as many small fishing boats, merchant ships and large fishing boats, and the "SOCIBER" dam for the repair of these, among others.

9.4.- PLAZA ECHAURREN Localización: ubicada en pleno Barrio Puerto de la ciudad de Valparaíso, entre las calles Echaurren- Clave- Bustamante- San Martín. Es el sector más bohemio, donde encontrarás gastronomía típica y popular porteña.

Es un parque clásico, que nos muestra parte de la herencia inmigrante a nuestro país. Se destaca especialmente una réplica de la “Loba Capitolina”, que representa el legado Italiano y potencia el nombre de este parque.

It is a classic park which displays this country’s immigrant’s inheritance. A replica of the “Loba Capitolina” which represents the Italian legacy is the highlight of this park and the reason for its name.

11.5.- MONUMENTO A LOS HÉROES DE IQUIQUE Localización: Plaza Sotomayor, Valparaíso. Este monumento fue erigido en medio de la plaza, por colecta popular en memoria de los héroes navales que lucharon en los combates de Iquique y Punta Gruesa, el 21 de mayo de1879. Fue inaugurado el 21 de mayo de 1886.
11.5. - HEROES OF IQUIQUE MONUMENT Location: Sotomayor Square, Valparaíso. In the middle of the square, this monument was erected through a national fundraising in memory of the heroes who fought in the naval battle of Iquique and Punta Gruesa on May 21st, 1879. It was inaugurated on May 21st 1886.

5.6.- EDIFICIO RELOJ TURRI Localización: Prat 281, Valparaíso Reseña: El afamado y clásico Reloj Turri en realidad no se llama así. El nombre original es Edificio Agustín Edwards, quien le dio este tan característico estilo británico. La idea la trajo el mismo Agustín Edwards desde Londres. El reloj en sí, es una réplica del Big Ben de la ciudad antes mencionada.
5.6. - TURRI CLOCK BUILDING Location: 281 Prat Street, Valparaíso The renowned and popular Turri Clock is not really called that way. It is actually called Agustín Edwards Building, after the man who gave this building a typical British style. The idea was brought from London and it is a “local-style” replica of the famous Big Ben Clock.
