MUSIC SCHOOL SHOP AND OFFICE BUILDING
IN VALLS, TARRAGONA
The project is located in the old city center in Valls, Tarragona, in a empty plot very close to the city church and where the difference of height between the upper street and the lower street is a point to be considered. In this plot sourrounded by old buildings is where the new school of music of Valls finds its place, a big building designed for serving not only the city of Valls but also the sorroundings. The main idea of the project is to mantain the continuity of the facades along the upper street while adapting organically towards the lower street, where a parking lot can be found nowadays. The difference of height is also a strong point for developping the project, thus the building divides itself in two main entrances: one in the upper street for the school of music (located in the ground and upper levels) and another one located in the lower street (or the parking lot) which is the entrance for the auditorium (located in the underground levels). This way the building is capable of working as an auditorium and as a school of music separately. The project tries to give an urban facade to the city but also creating green spaces that can be profited by the people and it also tries to give connection between the upper and the lower street not only through the building but also through the urbanism actuation. The urban facade is a massive facade that opens a small windows towards the street while the organic facade tries to get as much sunlight as possible and thus it uses a glass facade, because it is also orientated towards north. The office building and the shop consist of a body separated from the main buildind, the school of music, and fills a small empty plot attached to the main plot. Even though it is separated from the main body, it tries to speak the same language the former does. In the ground floor we can find the shop which uses a glass facade as the organic facade of the main building does, while in the upper leves we find the office building which uses a massive facade as in the case of the urban facade in the main building.
MADRID’S DORMITORIES
ENLARGEMENT
This project, located in Madrid, consists in the creation of a third volume as an enlargement for the Madrid’s dormitories. It contains 3 themed floors with rooms and exhibitions, a ground floor with a restaurant and an administration zone and an underground floor with a bar and an auditorium. The main idea of the project is to take the whole package of activities, group it and then break it in a way that allows the user to walk the building in a continous and ascendent way, as though a path to knowledge. This is why the main space in the building is the crack that contains the main staircase and that connects every part of the project. The facade tries to imitate the brick facades of the other two contiguous buildings by using microperforated metal panels with the brick hues and combines that first facade with the second facade, a concrete facade.
HEALTHCARE
CENTER IN
BARCELONA
This project, located in Barcelona, consists in a massive body of which some parts are taken out to accommodate in the best way possible the different services needed but also creating courtyards in order to get as much sunlight as possible. Another idea that generates the project is that everytime a piece is taken out a new material appears and that’s why everytime a part is hollowed out, the concrete that forms the outer facade gives way to a new material, such as wood or glazing. The project also uses the difference of height between the northern and the southern street to make to separated entrances to the building. In the southern street we find the entrance to the urgencies section whereas in the northern street we can find the entrance to the rest of the building.
LOCKER ROOMS AND FOOTBALL PITCH IN A
QUARRY IN BARCELONA
The project, located in a quarry in Barcelona, consists in two bodies of locker rooms and a body for administration and reception. The idea was to try to addapt to the quarry itself and become part of it by carrying out a more landscaping project than an architecture one. By using weathering steel for cutting and containing the slope, the new created bodies accomodate themselves in the new space generated, becoming this way the new slope, and so part of the quarry.
