Letter From the Director

North Regional

Summer is here! At Durham County Library that means a season of celebratory programs that advance our mission to encourage Discovery, connect the Community and lead in Literacy. Our children's programs include storytimes, summer gardening, learning through movement and athletics, arts programs and so much more.

221 Milton Rd., 919-560-0231 Children’s Unit, 919-560-0232 Hours: Mon., Tue. and Thur. 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wed. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fri. 2 - 6 p.m., Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sun. 2 - 6 p.m.

South Regional

4505 S. Alston Ave., 919-560-7409 Children’s Unit, 919-560-7410 Hours: Mon., Tue. and Thur. 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wed. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fri. 2 - 6 p.m., Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sun. 2 - 6 p.m.

The summer slide is a real challenge for children and families. Too many children lose academic ground during the summer months. We meet that challenge by offering free enrichment experiences throughout the summer and working to expand access to high quality literacy programs.

Southwest Regional

3605 Shannon Rd., 919-560-8590 Children’s Unit, 919-560-8592 Hours: Mon., Tue. and Thur. 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wed. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fri. 2 - 6 p.m., Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sun. 2 - 6 p.m.

One way we do this is through our bookmobile, Destination Literacy, made possible by generous donations from the Durham Library Foundation, Friends of the Durham Library, and others. Early literacy and learning are critical to later success in school. We are particularly proud of our strong partnerships with area pre-schools and daycares, where the bookmobile spends its mornings delivering books and captivating children’s imaginations with the wonder of reading.

Stanford L. Warren Branch

1201 Fayetteville St., 919-560-0270 Hours: Mon., Tue. and Thur. 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Wed. 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fri. 2 - 6 p.m., Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
