PRESCHOOL STORYTIME (Preschool) Wednesdays (except Sep. 7 and Nov. 9) 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. Enjoy a 25-35 minute program featuring picture books, activities, songs and flannel board stories for preschool age children. This program gives caregivers and children the opportunity to share, listen and enjoy stories together.

FAMILY STORYTIME: PLAY AND READ/ JUGAR Y LEER (3-5 Year Olds) Saturdays, Oct. 1, 22; Nov. 12 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. This storytime-style program for children between 3 and 5 years old includes stories, music and crafts in both English and Spanish.

Singing and dancing is good for the soul. It’s never too early to get your little one grooving to the beat. Join us for this magical sing-along program, sprinkled with hand rhymes, finger plays, stories and more.

Join local daycares, schools and camps for this fun-filled series. Grouptime Storyhour offers stories, songs, crafts and more. This program is presented only at the request of a group as it is designed specifically for schools, daycares and camps. Parents and children are welcom to join in, too. READERS THEATER WORKSHOP Tuesdays, Sep. 20 - Oct. 25 5 - 5:45 p.m. Join in the fun and make stories come to life! Adapt stories from books into plays! Children will run lines, do acting warm ups and practice staging the play they will perform for friends and family at the end of this six-week series presented by the Library Youth Partners—Durham high school students who create fun literacy events for children. This program is made possible by an endowment from GlaxoSmithKline. *MISS HUMBLEBEE’S ACADEMY (Preschool, Kindergarten) Mondays, Sep. 26; Oct. 24; Nov. 28 11 a.m. - 12 noon Help your child prepare for kindergarten early! Learn about one of the newest free online resources the library provides for very young children. Similar to ABC Mouse, Miss Humblebee’s Academy offers a full online curriculum with progress reports, assessments, hundreds of lessons and much more.

*TECHNO SATURDAYS (10-13 Year Olds) Saturdays, Oct. 1- Nov. 19 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. This series focuses on digital literacy including topics such as email basics, creating websites and more.

Next time you’re at the library participate in the monthly scavenger hunt and find all the hidden items in the library to win a prize! Look for fall leaves in September, find pumpkins in October and search for turkeys in November! *CREATE AND GET MESSY! (All Ages) Fridays, Sep. 2; Oct. 7; Nov. 4 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. On the first Friday of the month, come create some messy crafts! Don’t worry, the library will handle the clean up! All supplies provided. In September, make your own Play Doh. In October, enjoy apple stamping. In November, create your own turkey art!

*BLOCK BUDDIES (Babies, Toddlers, Preschool) Mondays, Sep. 12, 26; Oct. 10, 24; Nov. 14, 28 10 - 11 a.m. Playing with blocks helps babies and toddlers master developing motor skills, encourages early problem solving and introduces fundamental concepts like colors, shapes, balance and pattern recognition. Bring your babies and toddlers to explore an array of building blocks. Please note this is free, self-guided play time and not a structured program. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This program is intended for children ages 6 and under.

It includes hundreds of guided lessons with sound cues. Parents/caregivers guide the child through a host of conceptbased lessons.

*GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BIRD NEIGHBORS (All Ages) Saturday, Sep. 17 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon Join members of the New Hope Audubon Society to transform the Children’s Program Room into an amazing and interactive bird exhibit. Learn about birds common to this area and their habitats. We will play a game, share a song or two and make a craft.

*EASY ORIGAMI! (6-12 Year Olds) Mondays, Sep. 19; Oct. 17; Nov. 21 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Join us for this three-part series introducing children to origami. Start with the basic folding skills and, by session three, end in amazing works of art. Children are encouraged to enroll in all three sessions as skills taught are cumulative. Stop by and pick up your starter package and get writing. Each story will be displayed in the library and voted on. Include original artwork, too. Prizes and certificates will be awarded, along with the title of Durham County Library’s Scariest Storywriter!”

*COOKING THE HISPANIC WAY: CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH (All Ages) Saturday, Oct. 8 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 through October 15. Celebrate by sharing some of the many spices and herbs associated with Hispanic cuisine. The dish of the day is Spicy Chicken in Soft Taco Shells” loaded with vegetables. Join in the fun as we sample a variety of spicy salsas and toppings. Parents/caregivers and children only. Space is limited.

*HULA HOOP HOUR (8-12 Year Olds) Saturdays, Oct. 8, 15 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. There are over sixty tricks that can be done with a hula hoop! Join Adrian Culpepper as she shares her passion for this fun fitness tool, teaching “on body” and “off body” moves. We’ll bring the hoops, you bring the enthusiasm!

*STRUM ALONG WITH MR. PRESTON CLARKE OF NOTASIUM, THE UKELELE MAN! (Babies, Toddlers, Preschool, Kindergarten) Wednesday, Oct. 12 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Sing and dance with Mr. Preston, lead Notasiumeer” of the popular Notasium Play Space and Music School in Durham. Our Full STEAM” Ahead program, presented by Anna Cromwell, provides a hands-on activity that connects kids to the fun of STEAM” education. Try your hand at painting with marbles! All art supplies are provided.

*EASY NO BAKE THANKSGIVING COOKIES! (Kindergarten, Elementary) Wednesday, Nov. 16 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Calling all little bakers, cooks and chefs! Join us for this Thanksgiving program as we make a delicious treat worth being thankful for! Decorate your very own supersize cookie with frosting, chocolate chips, marshmallows, licorice and other sweet treats!

HOMESCHOOL LEARNING LAB (Preschool, Kindergarten, 6-12 Year Olds) Thursdays, beginning Sep. 8 (No lab on Oct. 20 or Nov. 24) 9:30 a.m. The Homeschool Learning Lab allows homeschoolers time and space to come together in the library for social, educational and fun programming. Each week brings exploration of different activities. Parents are always invited to facilitate a lab. *YOUNG CRITICS BOOK CLUB (Grades 3-5) Every other Thursday, beginning Sep. 8 4 - 5 p.m. Kids in grades 3 through 5 who love to read are invited to submit applications of interest to North Regional Library’s Young Critics Book Club. Kids will act as reviewers of new and current books, write submissions for the Young Critics blog and write a short story with the help and guidance of librarians. Pick up your stuffed animal the next day and learn about all the fun that took place overnight!

Put your creative hats on and join Miss Soyoung for this interactive, skill building program that teaches children how to make amazing balloon creations. Learn the intricate techniques of balloon sculpting and take home your creations! Participants must be ages 6 to 12 and have the hand strength and dexterity to twist and shape balloons.
