dear reader, The DUT14 has attended its first event at the Silverstone circuit in the UK, and what an event it was! Nearly every day was extremely intense, and we have our team to thank for maintaining a cool head and its structure. Read on for everything we experienced! Regards, The DUT14 team

Day I: Arrival and first parts of scrutineering The first day was a rather calm day: the car arrived on time as planned, and moved almost directly into scrutineering, while the rest of the team registered. As soon as the DUT14 was on the grounds, a lot of public showed up. The new drivetrain this year is definitely an eye-catcher, and a lot of FS people are fascinated by the concept. As the DUT14 entered scrutineering, the team continued to set up the pitbox and the mobile workshop, so we would be quickly able

to start receiving production requests. The camping, at 25 minutes walking from the circuit, was already set up by our “early arrival shift, who had already arrived a few days ago to set up the camping for when the rest of the team arrived.

Day II: Statics and Scrutineering The second day of FSUK, and for the back to scrutineering, while the team waited first time since our arrival at Silverstone, anxiously at the gates of the scrutineering we were greeted by the British weather. A bay. stunning 11 degrees and an early morning in our common tent at 07:00 make for an excellent wake-up routine it turns out. The day would start at 09:00 with Design Judging, immediately followed by Cost Judging at 10, and the Business Presentation would be held at 14:00 in the marquee above the pits. As soon as possible, the car moved

Day III: ACCELERATION, SKIDPAD AND SPRINT At the beginning of the third day, we were not yet as far as we had hoped. We still had the last bits of scrutineering to finish (driver egress), but the dynamic events skidpad and acceleration would start at 09:00 and end already at 12:30. As we moved from tilt to noise to braketest, valuable time ticked away. It was nearly 11:30 when we finished the last test, and we decided to first hit the acceleration track, follow it up with skidpad, then see how much time we would have lest to do any

eventual second runs. However, as it turned out, after our first attempts at both, we got in second place! And at exactly 12:30, we rolled out of our first skidpad attempt, in the nick of time! Sprint would only start in the afternoon, enough time to catch our breath and prepare the car for the lap. Here too, the times were downright amazing: we got in first with a time of 47.258 seconds! Overall, not too bad of a day.

Day IV: Endurance and Award Ceremony The enduracance day is the toughest one. Here you are, your first event, all the tough teams are present and you know they tested thoroughly. You know you tested a tonne too, but will it be good enough? The car should be able to finish the 22 kilometres by your experience, but will it finish it here too? These thoughts were racing through our heads as we headed out to the endurance track at 15:00. We knew some pretty killer times had been lapped by Rennteam Stuttgart, and other teams had

not been slow either. We were glad we were last in the running order, and advantage when you win sprint: more rubber on the track, nearly no loose stones, ideal grip. All of that does not matter though if your car stops driving. And the DUT14 did. Four times. Four times it stopped, four times we heard our hearts pound in our ears. And four times it restarted. We finished the endurance, and with that became overall winners of the FSUK 2014 event!
