Delft Bulletin - Formula Student Austria Final Edition
Thursday 2nd place overall!
This is the last edition of the Delft Bulletin of FSA. We are very happy to announce that the DUT Racing team has gained the second place overall! Furthermore, we finished second on Endurance and first on the Business Presentation! Thursday was the most decisive day, because on this day the Endurance event is being held. It is the event where by far the most points can be gained. Every team has to drive a distance of 22 kilometres on the circuit as quick and efficient as possible. It was amazing to see how many cars did finish this race, which was not the case at for example Silverstone. We can be glad with a second place on the Endurance; only TU Fast (Munich) was quicker. 2

During the Endurance, about 3 cars at the time were on the track. The order in which each team could start depended on the time that the team drove on the Autocross: the fast team drove at last. We started 37th, almost at the end. The running order is quite important: during the day, cars leave rubber of their tires (slip streams) on the asphalt which makes the track more grippy. Also, the weather became dryer which also increased the grip on the track. On the picture you can see Rennteam Stuttgart on track. 3

At about 15.03, the green flag was given to Tim, our first Endurance driver. At that moment, the fastest lap times were driven by Rennteam Stuttgart, about 1m3s. Usually on the endurance, combustion cars are faster than electric cars, because the electric cars set a lower power setting for their batteries that have limited energy. But for Tim it did not take many laps to break that time. During the entire 22 km, Erik and Tim managed to set really sharp times. AMZ Racing managed to drive even quicker laps, but after the driver change they needed to drive slower to save energy. Then also GFR came on track. Sadly for them, a part in the suspension broke after a few laps, which resulted in a DNF (Did Not Finish). It’s even more tragic when you know that they have driven already for probably more than 1500 km without serious suspension problems. Finally, TU Fast from Munich amazed all the other teams. The car was very quick and unfortunately we were not able to beat them. This made us end up second place on the Endurance. 4

This competition concludes the year of the DUT Racing Team 2013. We have experienced and learned a lot. It could not have been such a good year without the help of all of our sponsors and without the dedication of each team member (and the support of our parents)! Thank you all!
