The Project : SUPERNATURAL : “NATURALIST” As part of the Pattern Art Design & Architecture class at Nanyang Technological University’s faculty of Art, Design & Media, this project is attempts to combine conflicts of science, faith, questions about origins of man, nature and supernatural. It is inspired by nature, botany Darwinism, creationism, and intelligent design.
The Concept : APOSEMATISM Aposematism describes antipredator adaptations where warning signals (i.e conspicuous colours) is associated with the unprofitability of a prey to potential predators. In response to Charles Darwin, was the first to suggest that the contrasting coloured bands of the hornet warned of its defensive sting, so could the bright colours of the caterpillar warned of its unpatalability. Featured here are a few aposematic animals (eg. : snake, skunk, beetles) and flowers (eg. lily of the valley, brugmansia, belladonna). Their forms are broken down into geometric shapes and lines. They are represented by contrasting colours and put together to form a kaleidoscopic form. Colours featured are chosen to emphasize the aesthetically pleasing blend with intricate details when viewed up close.
