fore word
Hello! Well here we are in 2011, Christmas and New Years completely shot by, we hope you all enjoyed the festivities and had some ‘under the mistletoe action’, we can safely say we did! One thing that January is famous for is the period of detox and loosing those few extra Christmas pounds we all put on, but at the time of writing this, and by the time your reading this, February shall be in full swing and what does that mean? It’s all about the Retox. One thing we here at DV8 have really learnt over the last few months is that Oxford has so many fantastic places to eat and drink, so be sure to check out our food and drink recommendations for places to go. One thing that February is famous for is Valentines day, and this year in Oxford, there looks to be something for everyone. If your single and want to meet someone, if your loved up and want to go out, and also if you want to stick your fingers up to it and party the night away, you will find something to please you. Have a look at our Valentines section for further information.
One other thing that we are very excited about this month, is the return of Oxford Fashion Week, it all starts on the 28th February with the opening party ‘Fashions night out’ we can’t wait. We also caught up with the lovely Emma Appleton who is this year’s face of Oxford Fashion Week to see what there is to expect, we here at DV8 have booked our seats on the front row and we can’t wait. Over the past two months the Face of Oxford Fashion Week 2011 Selection Committee has considered 152 candidates, 49 call backs, 3,612 votes, 19 interviews and nine key criteria. The calibre of all candidates was high, the character displayed was impressive and the competition was fierce. DV8 is now delighted to reveal the Face of Oxford Fashion Week 2011 is Emma Appleton from Witney. We caught up with Emma to get to know the girl behind the face and talk modeling, fashion, hats, shopping, partying and plans for the future… So Emma, many congratulations on becoming the Face of Oxford Fashion Week 2011! How does it feel to have won? Itʼs fantastic, I was so surprised, I really didnʼt expect to win! The calibre of candidates was so high and no two entrants were alike. Itʼs a real honour to have won. Can you tell us a little bit about youʼre modelling experience? I went along to a casting for OFW 2010 and ended up getting selected for the lingerie show. That was really my first professional piece of modelling. I really enjoyed the experience and decided that modeling was something I wanted to pursue. In September I got signed to the modelling agency Zone Models, which is based in Covent Garden. Then in January I found out I had been chosen as the 2011 Face of OFW!
What advice would you give to DV8 readers looking for their big break in the modelling world? Donʼt sit around and wait to be spotted. If itʼs what you really want to do, then you have to be determined and go out and make it happen for you! Go to lots of castings, send pictures to lots of agencies and donʼt be scared of rejection. How do you deal with the rejections? It just goes with the business, you will get rejected. There are just so many girls and guys in the industry, rejection doesnʼt mean that you are a bad model, it may be that you just donʼt have the particular look they are going for. What are your biggest fashion influences? My biggest designer influence has to be Vivienne Westwood. She is truly a fashion legend! I love how she incorporates British punk and new wave inspirations to create really unique, incredible collections.
“I donʼt think many people realise what a big fashion base we have in Oxford, there are so many talented young designers and I am really excited to see their work..”
I am still very new to the fashion industry and Iʼm learning a lot, itʼs a completely different world and very exciting!
How do you feel about being an ambassador for OFW, do you get nervous? I do get nervous, because I want to perform to the best of my ability and I want people to be impressed and take notice, but itʼs also really exciting! Previous faces of Oxford Fashion week Irene Forte and Tiffany Saunders have both gone onto big things appearing on vogue.com and featuring in London Fashion Week S/S 2011. What are your future fashion aspirations? I definitely want to pursue the modelling as far as it will take me. Iʼm going to quite a lot of castings at the moment, and being the face of Oxford Fashion Week will really raise my profile, it is an amazing platform.
What are you looking forward to most at Oxford Fashion Week this year? Iʼm really looking forward to the 2011 Concept show, last year it was amazing! It features a line-up of the very best up and coming Oxford designers who get a chance to showcase their work alongside established names. The show is a real creative spectacle. I donʼt think many people realise what a big fashion base we have in Oxford, there are so many talented young designers and I am really excited to see their work.
With my personal style I really enjoy hunting for clothes and accessories in vintage and charity shops, and putting looks together that you wouldnʼt necessarily find in High Street shops like Topshop and Miss Selfridge.
Where are your favorite places to shop in Oxford? Uncle Samʼs on Little Clarendon Street and Reign Wear on the Cowley Road. What trends will you be working for Spring/Summer 2011? I donʼt really follow trends too closely, I like to be a bit individual. At the moment Iʼm really into hats, and have started buying lots of trilbies and bowlers.
What has been your biggest fashion faux par? Iʼm sure there has been a lot! I used to have a pair of purple velvet flares. I think I was about thirteen and I wore them to all the school discos. I wish I still had them! They will probably come back into fashion soon. Can you let the DV8 readers into your top beauty secret? Look after your skin… Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise and always take your make up off, even if youʼve had a really late night. Itʼs really worth it!
Finally, where would we be likely to see you on a night out in Oxford? Probably at the Jericho Tavern on Walton Street, or the Wheatsheaf just off the High Street. Iʼm definitely more of a pub person than a club person and I love watching live music. DV8 predicts big things for Emma, it was an absolute pleasure meeting her, her lovely personality combined with her obvious commitment and passion for modeling has definitely won us over and convinced us that she is much more than just a pretty face. We look forward to seeing Emma take to the runway for Oxford Fashion Week 28th Feb – 6th March. Check out the OFW website http://oxfordfashionweek.org/ for more information.

DV8 are eagerly anticipating the February launch of ‘Truck Store’ on Cowley Road, an independent record shop that we predict will become the heart and soul of Oxford’s music community. The shop will be run by the owners of ‘Rapture’ who already have two successful indie record stores in Witney and Evesham. The idea came about with both the Rapture team and the Truck organisers recognising that Oxford with its rich musical heritage was profoundly missing an independent music store, a trial store was set up during OX4 music festival in November and proved to be a roaring success. The new ‘Truck Store’ will stock
JIVE
This Valentine’s DV8 will be swinging all weekend at Wahoo as they transform the club into a 50’s style jive hall full of jitterbuggin’ tunes, live funk music, slow dating, ice cream and fancy dress. Highlights include Mario’s Ice Cream Diner, the two time Oxford Flair champion has put together a menu of hip Ice Cream based cocktails to serve in his very own diner. There will be an authentic chequered dance floor and staff will be dressed to impress in skin-tight leather, jeans, quiffs and circle skirts. DV8 are looking forward to stepping onto the dance floor and partying like its 1955! DV8 OXFORD /// FEBRUARY 2011
CDs and vinyl, specialising in independent and alternative releases, comics, Truck merchandise, concert and festival tickets. It will also be a venue for intimate live performances, building on successful gigs in their Witney store from the likes of ‘McFly’, ‘Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly’ and local talent ‘Stornoway’ and ‘Little Fish’. DV8 definitely look forward to catching up with some local music this year... We envisage the beginning of ‘Empire Records’ fashion coming back (surely everybody loves that film?!), cropped tops, tartan minis and angsty messy hair. ‘Truck Store’ is just what Oxford needs.
FREE MUSIC
DV8 loves the wealth of local musical talent there is in Oxford, lets face it we are home to a great heritage including the world famous Radiohead and Supergrass. We were delighted when we heard that local Oxford musician Aaron Delgado had put together a compilation of new music that is currently coming out of Oxford on a free to download CD, which includes songs from the likes of the Winchell Riots, Ute and the Dead Jerichos. Aaron is keen to promote the fantastic talent we have here in Oxford. DV8 thinks this is a great idea, we’ve downloaded our copy and you can get yours now at: www.spirescompilation.co.uk
HEARD IT ON THE OXFORD GRAPE VINE...
DV8 HQ have been keeping our eyes and ears to the ground, making sure that we are the first to hear all the juicy New Year gossip!
If you have ever watched any American teen movies and wanted to have a go at Beer Pong, then the wait is over! We hear a national tournament is headed our way on the 9th February... Also, rumour has it that No9 nightclub may soon be holding new nights during the week, we cannot wait! It is the time of year for the annual 5 mile charity run hosted by the Oxford Mail in aid of the Oxford Children’s Hospital. If one of your new years resolutions was to shed some of those extra Christmas lbs then there is no better way to get fit and help a good cause. The event has grown every year with 800 runners taking part in 2010, raising an impressive £57,000 for the charity. The run is on the 20th March at Blenheim Palace, for full information and entry details visit: www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/ox5run See you at the finish line!

ew Year’s Eve 2010 in Oxford, and The Living Room staked its claim to be the DV8 teams venue of choice to see in the New Year. Black and yellow balloons decorated the tables as an enthusiastic and well-dressed crowd filtered their way in ready to celebrate in style.
An acoustic band kicked off the evening, easing people into the NYE festivities. As the night went on the tempo increased and the party atmosphere became electric as the countdown to midnight approached. Whether people were in the reserved booths or turned up to the bar on the night, good times were had by all. The event was held in association with Agwa and so there were many tasty cocktails on the menu to keep the revellers happy. Whether you wanted yours with Red Bull, ginger beer, bitters, chilli or lime, the menu was broad enough to suit everyone. Jacob, the representative from Agwa, did the rounds all night making sure everyone was having a good time, which from DV8’s perspective, they definitely were.
A world record was attempted at 10.35pm when 150 Agwa-bombs (Red Bull with a shot of Agwa) were lined up on the bar. A moment later a loud cheer went up around the room announcing that the record attempt had been successful and the first people to the bar were given an Agwabomb each to celebrate. Overall, it was a great way to see in 2011, and the question on people’s minds was ‘how can they top this for 2012?’ See you there to find out in 12 months… DV8 OXFORD /// FEBRUARY 2011

DAVE PEARCE @ LAVA & IGNITE
D
ave Pearce brought his Dance Anthems to Oxford this month, playing a packed out gig in Lava Ignite. His set featured the hottest current club bangers with the odd trademark anthem thrown in for good measure. The dance floor pulsed with clubbers unified by Dave’s euphoric style of uplifting trance and hard dance. The crowd joined Dave in his trademark cry of "Oi Oi!" as he rolled tune after tune. With fishbowl cocktails on offer for just a tenner and a state of the art sound and lighting system Lava Ignite was the perfect venue. DV8 were lucky enough to meet the DJ legend himself and ask him a few questions….
Q. Is this your first gig in Oxford? A. I’ve actually played here quite a few times, the most bizarre gig was definitely the time I played in a debating hall at Oxford University. I’ve also DJ’ed at the Oxford May Day Ball. I always enjoy coming back as I always get a good crowd. Q. What’s your fail-safe song that is guaranteed to get the crowd going? A. It has to be Delerium – Silence, it’s a classic! Even though it has been out for twelve years its still one of the best trace songs of all time and it always gets the crown revved up.
Q. Which summer dance hits should we listen out for? A. The two tunes that I predict are going to be big this summer are Laid Back Luke featuring Jonathan Mendelsohn - Time Bomb and Tiësto vs. Diplo ft. Busta Rhymes - C'mon (Catch 'Em By Surprise). DV8 really enjoyed meeting Dave Pearce, what a lovely bloke!

afé Coco may not be the first place that you think of when you’re considering burlesque nights, but on 15th December it opened its doors to an exotic evening of temptation and delight.
The Moroccan-inspired venue near Oxford railway station provided an ideal location to celebrate the resurgent art of burlesque, currently riding high after the recent release of the film of the same name. As the hostess introduced the evening’s entertainment she was met by a warm reception from the enthusiastic crowd, keen to see what was in store for them. They weren’t disappointed as the first performer took to the stage weaving a seductive dance before a cheeky finale, which saw her dancing in little more than an apron. A dancer in a corset covered in roses then appeared and proceeded to work her way down to some silver nipple tassels, at which point the appreciative crowd broke into spontaneous cheers and applause. She was followed by a lady dressed in silver with a white feather headdress and similarly feathered fans. As she swirled across the stage she even offered one lucky audience member a kiss under the mistletoe before scattering glitter over the audience. It says a lot for the success of the evening that none of this felt sleazy but worked in harmony with the nostalgic atmosphere recreated in Café Coco for the event.
People were kept entertained between performances by the impressive live band, 52 Skidoos, whose top efforts with classic songs gave the casual onlooker the feeling of being in a 1940s speakeasy.

This, combined with the hostess’ entertaining interaction with the crowd, perfectly complemented the main show.
Deborah, one of the organisers of the evening, commented that, “This is a fun event that we want people to enjoy without any sleaziness, our aim is to provide entertainment that offers something for everyone. It has been more popular than we expected and we are hoping to make it a regular event.”
As Marianne Cheesecake finished her final performance in seductive style dressed all in red, it certainly felt as if the evening had been a success. People had been entertained and I suspect a few doubters had been won over, as the burlesque ladies had succeeded in ‘mixing it up and coming up with a bit of fabulousness’ in Café Coco on a cold Tuesday evening in December.

O
n the first Friday of 2011, OxfordParties.com & Kukui partnered up to host an R&B extravaganza to banish January blues. On an evening that for many will have been the first challenge for the New Year detox, DV8 had planned to be tucked up in bed watching a romcom. Instead we were lured out by the promise of a night of partying with glamour model-turned-DJ Lauren Pope, star of the reality TV show of the moment ‘The Only Way is Essex’. Lauren proved that she is not just a pretty face (and a cracking pair of boobs) as she flaunted her talents on the decks and flirted with the partygoers. The former Page 3 Girl, who learnt to DJ with fellow glamour model Kellie Acreman has established herself on the club scene as one of the top R&B/ Hip Hop DJ’s in the UK and has definitely injected some much needed glamour into the club world.
Kukui was thriving with pretty faces and music lovers, abandoning their New Year’s resolutions and making sure 2011 started as a year to remember! With support from Wordplay DJ’s, Kid Fury (Glide FM) and Geenee the play list kept everyone on their toes and the dance floor continued to be the place to be until the early hours. DV8 especially liked the fact that drinks were being offered at a bargain £1.50 before 11pm; so we raided the remains of our piggy banks and let the music take over! ‘The World’s sexiest DJ’ according to Nuts magazine looked the part as she donned some sparkly headphones that we were ‘well jel’ of! Rumour has it that it won’t be long until Kukui’s next celebrity appearance. We wonder who it will be?

COCKTEAS OFW LAUNCH PARTY
T
he glamorous and the fashionable descended on Café Coco for the Launch of Oxford Fashion Week 2011. The prohibition 1920’s style theme saw party goers dressed in an array of suitably stylish attire, from flapper style cocktail dresses with delicious details in feather, lace and pearl to classic tailored suits topped with trilbies.
The evening kicked off with a complementary sparkling reception, complete with decadent designer cupcakes decorated with glitter and peacock feathers that looked almost too good to eat! CockTeas, provided by Cafe Coco, were available to purchase throughout the night. These alcohol infused delights were served in teapots perfect for sharing. With drinks ranging from a hot ‘Moroccan sling tea’ to a cold ‘Pot o’ cosmo’ and beers wrapped in brown paper, the menu created a wonderfully illicit prohibition feeling. A live Jazz band accompanied the evening and numerous photographers had no shortage of models to snap. Carl Anglim Executive Producer of OFW welcomed the crowd and unveiled the official schedule for OFW, which consists of 18 events, 5 runway shows and 5 parties! DV8 cannot wait to get involved, with thought provoking discussions such as ‘Is fashion bad for society?’ and the couture show featuring revered designers including Ellie Saab and Temperley to name but a few.

DV8 Caught up with Oxfordʼs favourite club promoting trio... Meet Tom Domenico Plested, Oliver East and Richard Christian the three founding members of T.O.R. Events
Tell us how T.O.R. events was born and the premise behind it? R: We have known each other for about 5 years, we started going out on the town with each other O: We are just really sociable people T: We thought, 'why shouldn't we put on our own night?' We had started to get to know a lot of people from our nights out in Oxford. R: Our first night was in Kiss Bar, it was called 'Pre Lash', it was a place for people to go before going to Park End's Lava Ignite and The Bridge, the first night was in November 2009.
Where do you get your inspirations for different nights? Do you have to do a lot of research? O: We quite often check out other towns. As we are really social and always networking we hear about different nights that are going on, and also what nights people want us to put on. R: Facebook is another really great way of getting feedback and starting conversations about what people want, check out the Wahoo group on Facebook. T: We always try to put on nights that people will like, itʼs really about what people want, rather than us telling people what they want.
“May Day is going to be the biggest night in 2011... expect a 24 hour something “
How did it go? R: It actually went pretty well, we continued the night for a term, it was really to see if there was a demand for this kind of night. T: From there, we then started doing a night at Escape (No.9), the first one we did was a beach themed party. It was hilarious, one guy turned up wearing nothing but Speedos! R: Then we did a couple of other themed nights over the May Bank Holidays, we held a Chavs vs. Geeks night and also a pyjama party. These were really great, we then went on to do a regular Friday night there, called Funky Fridays. T: The Escape then closed down for a while as it changed ownership. At this point Wahoo had just opened up. It was August, so we got involved holding exam results parties and also over the August Bank Holiday we held a UV Rave, it was awesome, we were the busiest place in Oxford with over 1000 people through the door.
What has been your favourite T.O.R event? R: It's got to be the Chavs vs. Geeks night, it was one of the Wahoo Wednesdayʼs we put on in November, or the UV Rave party. T: You can really tell that the promotions have been a success when everyone dresses up, they were really great nights and Wahoo was packed. O: We might be doing another UV rave night soon, so watch this space... T: T.O.R. events are more about special one-off nights, like Halloween, Christmas and Bank Holidays. New Years Eve at No.9 was epic, we teamed up with i-parties, there were snake charmers, fire breathers and the Utah Saints… It was a really great night. O: The count down at midnight was crazy, it wasnʼt a normal New Years Eve countdown! Have there been any disasters? R: There have been, and always will be, good and bad nights. I think the Laser and Dubstep night we had might count as a bad one. (Ollie and Tom point to Rick, maybe this was his idea!) We had to follow on from the high of the UV night, I thought it was going to be amazing, there was a really great laser show. Although it didn't work in Wahoo, I think it would have worked really well in another venue like the Coven or the Regal, a club with a big open space, rather than separate rooms. T: Part of our job is to find the right night at the right venue at the right time, such as targeting students during term time when they have money to spend, and also locals at weekends. We also have other promoters to compete against, some of which have well established nights.
Aside from Oxford, where are your favourite towns to go out? T: Newcastle O: Brighton R: Sheffield T, O, R: IBIZA!!!!, the club nights there are amazing, so much is going on, it's the best thing we've ever seen.
What does it involve to be a club promoter? Walk us through your typical day. R: Networking 24/7, talking to people from all over, via the internet, radio, telephone etc. It's all about followers and getting people to follow where you are going! O: We are BIG FANS of the blackberry, it has everything you need on it. The best thing is BBM - check it out! Itʼs so clever and a good promoting tool. Itʼs an international phone, itʼs a business mans phone!'
Aside from your work as promoters, what else do you do to relax? O: DJing (be sure to check out Ollie DJing around Oxford, he plays pretty much every night of the week) R: I used to play rugby quite a lot T: Snowboarding! I took some time out to be a snowboarding instructor in Canada. I like anything that gives me an adrenaline rush R: The thing is we end up working a lot, organising a single night has a two week run up to it, but the 'lay inʼs' in the morning are definitely the best thing! T: We are just regular guys, we also love Nandos. What events do you have coming up for 2011? R: May Day is going to be the biggest one, we are all in the process of getting some ideas, and we are looking into venues…..
Can we have a sneak peak? R: Expect a 24 hour something... We have a lot of exciting stuff in the pipeline, we are going to make it a May Day weekend to remember! T: We will be planning special one off theme nights throughout 2011. We will also be continuing with our regular nights at Wahoo on Wednesdayʼs and Cheddar Thursdayʼs at Roppongi. If we want more information about the nights you have planned, where should we go? R: Facebook and Twitter, look us up… Itʼs the best way to let a lot of people know whatʼs going on. Check out their twitter profiles: rick_c1111, ttommyp and DJ_OllieEast

T
he highlight of the Oxford music scene this month has to be Equitruck, the mini festival all-day-event is run by the organisers of the annual Truck festival and showcases a selection of local bands that you can expect to see perform at this summers Truck. Equi-truck marks the halfway point between Trucks, which means we now have less than 6 months to wait until our favourite summer festival! The event was dedicated to the memory of one of the truck founders the late Simon Stocker. All profits from EquiTruck have been donated to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Simon’s favourite charity. DV8’s Equi-truck highlights include performances by Ute and Fixers, both bands have been flagged as ones to watch for 2011! Ute’s impeccably timed rhythms and theatrical finale ‘Innocent Tailor’ got the whole crowd wailing and their crazy bass dancing also deserves a special mention! Fixers drew the biggest crowd having come straight from a session in the Live Lounge at BBC Radio One earlier in the day. Their unique mix of psychedelic surf pop and experimental electronic sound got the crowd jumping. DV8 look forward to seeing more of these boys in 2011.
CLUB MOJITO @ CAMERA
C
amera’s impressive stylish décor, sensuously sexy ambience and large basement dance floor provide the perfect atmosphere and space for Oxford’s best Latin and International Party – Club Mojito. DV8 were really pleased when Club Mojito returned to Friday nights in January, after a short Christmas hiatus. With salsa dancing and all flavours of Latin beats – including Merengue, Bachata and Reggaeton with a fresh touch of Samba, Rumba, International & Spanish music… Not to mention sizzling drinks offers and the most amazing range of Mojito’s we have ever seen. It is the perfect way to heat up your Friday night with some fast paced, sensual, sexy hip movements!
If Strictly Come Dancing is your guilty pleasure and you have always dreamed of taking to the dance floor yourself, then there is no better opportunity. The welcoming atmosphere ensures that no one is left without a dance partner. Club Mojito is an absolute hit with us here at DV8. Escape the winter blues, for a night of Latin inspired fun and take part in a free salsa dancing lesson, we might even see you there!

FLAIR ENOUGH @ THIRST
D
V8 were left wide-eyed with amazement as we watched the awesome skills the Oxford bartenders boasted at the recent *Flair Enough* competition! Thirst Bar hosted an electrifying night full of competitive spirit and flying drinks, as the best flairers and cocktail makers flaunted their finest moves to the drinking public! The bar was jam-packed with cheering supporters and it felt like the alcoholic version of ‘Britain’s got Talent’. These guys definitely had some! The first round showcased flairers from across Oxford’s greatest bars Maxwells, Wahoo, Anuba, Duke of Cambridge, The Living Room and of course Thirst! Contestants had just three minutes to show off and flirt with the crowd whilst creating flashy shapes with their cocktail shakers; everyone screamed and whooped as extraordinary and unusual flips and dives were performed before our eyes! The judges had a hard job as they marked everyone systematically; who would win them over? DV8’s favourites were Rori (Thirst); the perfect showman who threw his cocktail mixer like a pro, we were sure that he threw a wink our way too! We also had our eye on Sam (Duke of Cambridge) our dark horse with his nifty shapes - we especially loved his signature ‘rock the baby’ move!
The Semi Finals crept up and included Henry and Morel (Thirst) and Mario (Wahoo). DV8 sat on the edge of our seats as the pace quickened and the contestants had even less time to impress. Morel and Mario were the success stories of the night as they were quickly swept away to the final where the pair battled simultaneously against each other! Finally, the scores were counted and results were verified and Morel (Thirst) became the chosen champion! His face said it all as the crowd cheered in celebration! We were so impressed by all the flairing trickery and would definitely recommend that you check out future flair events. DV8 OXFORD \\\ FEBRUARY 2011

January was officially slimming season – the gym’s never been so busy, joggers bump into you as you’re walking down the street and the supermarkets sell out of Ryvita and lettuce. When 2011 is also the year you’ll get married, the pressure to shape up gets even more intense. At my last wedding dress fitting, they tried to book me in again at the beginning of February. “Make it March,” I said. “That gives me an extra month to shed all the pounds I’ll put on over Christmas.” So we’ve cut out alcohol, during the week at least (I couldn’t give up my beloved NZ Sauvignon Blanc completely, or I’d go bonkers!) and we’re eating really healthily. Frankly, it’s miserable – but the pounds ARE dropping off. It’s bizarre how good you feel after coming out of a gym session. Fit people had always talked to me about the endorphin buzz but I thought it was either lies or some sort of shared fitness insanity. But you do feel like you’re really achieving something. There is such a thing as going too far: my cousin went to a wedding last year where the bride had dropped two stone and was unrecognisable as herself. But I don’t want to be left with a set of pictures that make me miserable for the rest of my life because I know I’ll never look that good again. Half a stone is achievable and I shape up – and get fit in the process. There are lots of great opportunities to support your fitness binge in the county – from food therapist Nicci Nowinska who runs www.understandingyoureating.co.uk, to the well priced gymmemberships operated by the council gyms. There is a drawback to the latter though – you may find me sweating along on the machine next to you. Apply at your own risk. You can catch Sophie weekday mornings from 7am hosting The Morning Glory on Glide FM 107.9

CULINARY DELIGHTS
230 Cowley Road, Oxford, Tel: 01865 794945
When it comes to curry houses we are really spoilt for choice in Oxford, but at DV8 we have one particular favourite, we are talking about the multi award winning Aziz on the Cowley Road, which boasts acclaim from the British Curry Awards, Hardens Restaurant Guide and is rated in the top 10 restaurants in the UK by the Sunday Times (Magazine). As regulars, we decided to be a bit adventurous on this visit and sample something other than our usual favourites from the wide range of dishes on offer. Firstly, we ordered the Korai, a lamb curry with tomatoes, green peppers &
onions, we like our curry with a kick, so we ordered it hot hot hot but there is also the option to have it medium for those of you who’s life is already spicy enough! We also ordered a Gosht Mirch Bhuna, which was beef with dry red chillies, corriander and onion. In addition we ordered a few extra sides, of Sak Aloo, Rushun Nan (Garlic and Corriander) and also some sides of rice. The meal was delicious, the flavours were full and well put together, the portions were generous, and the curries were the perfect heat. If you don't have the time to stay in to dine, Aziz also offer a takeout service.
WAGAMAMA 8 Market Street, Oxford, Tel: 01865 249183
Wagamama is located outside Oxford's Covered Market, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cornmarket Street. We went along at lunchtime to sample what was on offer. DV8 loved the chic minimalist décor of the restaurant and the communal bench layout, modelled on the ramen bars that have been popular in japan for many years. The menu was extensive and options were well explained, we started with the Chicken Tebasaki, tender roasted chicken wings glazed with special spicy panasian barbeque sauce, this was finger licking good! Afterwards we tried the Chilli
Ramen Chicken which was a gorgeous plate of noodles in a spicy chicken and pork soup topped with chicken, beansprouts, red and spring onions and chillies, garnished with coriander and lime. We also chose the Chicken Tama Rice, grilled chicken breast stir-fried with courgettes, mushroom, red and spring onions in a oyster, ginger, garlic and wine sauce, served on sticky white rice. This was fast-food Japanese style, delivered straight to your table as soon as it was ready. The food was hot, tasty and well presented, and with portions large enough to satisfy the largest stomach.
COCKTAIL AND BARTENDER OF THE MONTH @ CAMERA FRENCH MARTINI Ingredients: 2 Limes 1 Blackberry 125ml Gomme Sugar Syrup 25ml Absolute Vodka (Blue) 25ml Chambord 2oz Pineapple Juice
This classic cocktail is shaken and served in a chilled martini glass. This one is definitely popular amongst the ladies who are out on the town for the night wanting a little bit of sophistication and glamour. We recommend a trip to Camera to try one for yourself!

CAROLINA BUCCI
In 1885, Ferdinando Bucci opened a studio in Florence specialising in the repair of gentlemen’s watches and fine jewellery, and yet never in his wildest dreams would he have guessed that 125 years later his great-granddfebhter Carolina would have turned the small family business into one of the most sought-after jewellery brands in the world. Carolina worked alongside local goldsmiths, encouraging them to push the boundaries of their traditional practices. Using a centuries old textile loom to weave 18k gold and silk thread to create her first collection Woven, the
technique wowed fashion enthusiasts all over the world and unsurprisingly has become her trademark. The designer continues to explore new methods of her craft, creating unique pieces that combine the tradition of Florentine artisanship with a distinctly hip and modern sensibility. Every designer worth their salt has a list of die-hard fans and Bucci is no exception. Elle Macpherson, Penelope Cruz and Oprah are all confirmed fans. Explore Carolina’s world at www.carolinabucci.com or visit the Chelsea store at 4 Motcombe Street, SW1X 8JU.
