fore word

Hello DV8 Fans, Welcome to the November issue of DV8! With Halloween and Guy Fawkes night behind us, that means only one thing! We are officially on the countdown to Christmas! We don't know about you, but our diaries are fast filling up with plans to catch up with friends, nights out, a little bit of shopping. Hopefully this year, we won't be leaving everything to the last minute. Before we get to the serious countdown to Christmas we have the wonderful month of November to get through first, and it looks like it is going to be jam packed with lots of fun things. First up The Lodge is reopening in place of the coven club next to the ice rink, it looks like it is going to be Oxford's number one destination venue, with the launch night offering an evening of fine drinks and entertainment, it is going to be one not to be missed - make sure you have the date in your diaries, more information can be found on page 8, where we have a look behind the scenes of Oxford's newest club. There are of course many other things to look forward to in November, such as longer nights, meaning more time to go out (we know there is no actual extra time, but it feels like it!) It makes us sad that the days are short, but we sure do like to make the most of the evenings! We are loving Oxford's new venue the Junction, if you haven't checked it out yet, we strongly recommend you do with live bands each and every Saturday and some fantastic drinks promotions it's the place to be. We hope you enjoy this issue of DV8, with a round up of some of the fun things that have been going on around Oxford over the last month or so. As always, we hope to see you out and about, and remember to look out for our photographers and get your photo in the next issue. DV8 Oxford Team

POST WORK DRINKS

There is no better feeling than after a hard day at work, sitting back and enjoying a well-deserved drink. What makes this feeling all the better is the age old tradition of Happy Hour. We here at DV8 are big fans of a happy hour, so we are letting you in on our top 5 favourites! Duke of Cambridge This has always been an amazing cocktail venue, the drinks are exquisite as well are the talents of those pouring them. There is always a large crowd guaranteed during happy hour which ends at 8.30 Sunday to Thursday and 7.30 Friday and Saturday. Selected cocktails are half price! Angels Angels continues to be a favourite of DV8, with awesome settings, fantastic and friendly staff and also not

just a happy hour, but heavenly hour! every day between 4.30-9.30 Angels offers half price cocktails from their range. If you want to kick back in some intimate surroundings after work, this is ideal, perhaps if you have your eye on someone across the office, suggest an after work date here! Maxwell’s Maxwell’s has always offered a little transatlantic feel to their venue, and we love the American inspired decor, as well as the food and drinks they serve. They also offer some great happy hours with impressive reductions. Perfect if you are looking for a little drink before a bite to eat. At Maxwell’s you can kill two birds with one stone. Summertown Wine Cafe For those of you who are

willing to travel a little further and are after something a little bit more sophisticated, then look no further than the Summertown Wine Cafe, with their extensive ranges of wines, and great discounts on drinks before 7pm. There is no better way to relax after a hard day at the office. Kick back in their conservatory style back room, maybe grab something from their sharing bites menu and unwind!

NOVEMBER EXPOSURE

So you guys have heard of Atomic Burger right? The awesome little diner-esque restaurant up Cowley Rd, full to the brim of your favourite retro memorabilia and cartooned wall paper with the tastiest burgers and all combinations of toppings you could ever think of. NOW there is even more Atomic fun with ‘Atomic Pizza’ at the other end of Cowley Rd (we might suggest they put an Atomic-something-else in the middle of Cowley Rd and we could almost turn it into a feasty bar crawl!) Atomic Pizza still

houses the same amazing décor and diner style feel and offers up an array of amazingly named Pizzas. Some of our favourites so far are the Bart Simpson, Fantastic Four and the Dr Manhatton (mmm, cheese!). Don’t forget you can still get all your fave burger choices too! Atomic Pizza also boasts it’s very own ‘Godzilla Challenge’ which is simply the hottest pizza you could ever dream of! Containing Triple Chillis, triple cheese, triple sci fries and the what can only be described as the ‘dreaded widow maker -

"Godzilla Sauce". Made from Ghost Chillies – it is VERY hot! When DV8 visited we were brave enough to try a teeny bit of this sauce and it was more pain than taste, beware!! We also watched a brave young chap try to eat the gigantic pizza but unfortunately cracked under the pressure and cheers. At the moment a fine 20 minutes is the best we’ve heard! Would you dare do it?! You get a fab "I Beat Godzilla" t-shirt if you win, and if you fail you even get a "Godzilla Beat Me" t-shirt! Enough reading, get booking!

particular shape, or a cake with lots of tiers, that won’t be a problem as Wondercakes have done loads of exciting designs! We loved the look of the dragons, elephants, and a scrabble board. They even recently made a moped cake topper for a wedding cake! The chocolate orange cake we tried is delicious, but they can do any flavour you want, like coffee, lemon or toffee apple, and you can have different flavours for the different tiers if you would like. They also do gorgeous little cupcakes, which are great for parties and events. Wondercakes deliver to anywhere in the Oxfordshire area, so if you’ve got an

event coming up why not check out the website at www.wondercakes.net. You can either discuss your ideas on the phone or arrange a consultation with Justine if you’d like to talk more in depth or even have a tasting session!

WONDERCAKES

Here at DV8 we can categorically say we love cake! We are also big fans of tv shows like Cake Boss.. Who knew cakes could be so artistic? We decided we wanted a ‘piece’ of the action, so we checked out local local talent, Wondercakes! They were kind enough to make us a Bonfire Night inspired cake, with a chocolate orange centre, it was delicious! We caught up with them to learn a little more about what they do. They can make you a cake for any occasion, whether it’s a wedding, corporate event or someone’s birthday. If you want a novelty cake in a

With Christmas just around the corner, we will be ordering some festive cupcakes to eat around the office! Also, it is always someone’s birthday, (and we are not so great in the kitchen baking department) so we thought it would be nice to send a box over to help a friend celebrate. With something so tasty and unique, it’s bound to be a hit, we hope they save one for us!

W

e at DV8 were disappointed to hear that Kukui was closing down, but that feeling quickly turned to excitement when the opening of a new venue, The Junction, promising live music was announced.

The opening night of The Junction was buzzing with people keen to see how this unique club would progress. Tube map style logos on the walls, menus and even the members of staff’s t-shirts helped to set the scene even before the house band took to the stage.

A good mix of old-school classics put everyone in a great mood straight away. For us at DV8, it was hearing R-Kelly’s She’s Got That Vibe that set up the evening nicely, but there were plenty of great tunes for everyone to enjoy. Then it was time for the main event, the live act to make an entrance, and a cheer went up from the crowd. The Lettuce Heads quickly got into their stride up on stage, crackling with energy as they romped through an impressive version of Tainted Love, encouraging the ever-growing crowd to rock out with them through their impressive repertoire of songs.

Overall it was a great night and the people we spoke to were having a top time. If there were any doubts at the beginning of the night about mixing a live band playing anthems with the more normal dancefloor tunes, those concerns had been convincingly dismissed. We look forward to many more great nights in The Junction and a lot of people at the launch seemed to agree with us. DV8 OXFORD /// NOVEMBER 2011

DV8 CHECKED OUT OXFORD8S MOST OPULANT AND SEXY CLUB....

Over the last few months our friends at The Lodge have been busy moving to a new premises, and they have had their work cut out turning the old building that used to house the Coven into Oxford’s sexiest destination venue… and believe us when we tell you they have delivered, and did we mention.. there is a 16ft pole! Often gentleman’s clubs have been dogged with the stigma of being seedy, The Lodge however, are taking strides to cast this stereotype aside, as they move to open their club to not just to guys, but welcome in girls in as well. Perhaps following in the footsteps of similar clubs in destinations such as Vegas, who attract groups, singles and couples alike, and not to mention a few celebrities. We sat down with them to find out what was in store…. You moved from you Penny Farthing Place (outside the Westgate) to your new venue next to the Ice Rink, how has this been? In a word, expensive! And of course exciting, we have done an entire remodeling of the inside and we have totally opened up the club, giving an open plan view, over a couple of floors, with the cen tral pole that spans the two floors. (yes that’s right, the central stage offers a pole that is 16ft tall!), It’s cost hundreds of thou sands of poundsin the transformation, tu rning The Lodge into Oxford’s most opulent club. What opportun ities has the new premises brought you? The location, it’s going to be a destination venue for people starting a night, or ending a night, and everything in between. There are also great parking facilities (for the design ated drivers), which aren’t available for a central location. We are also very close to the train station, and only a short walk from town. The size is twice that of our previous club, which is more suitable for us. The lower floor is dedicated as a VIP area, so we can really offer a V.V.I.P experience!

We have been to our fair share of parties, work parties and stag p arties, will you be offering group p ackages? Yes indeed, if you’re planning a party, drop us a line, and we will make a bespoke party just for your b udget. The VIP area is all table seated with a bottle service. You mention that you are open until 5am, Monday to Saturday. Are you expecting to be busy all the way through til 5am? Indeed. There are always people about. People come here after other pubs and clubs have closed their doors for the nigh t, as well as other people working in bars looking for an afterwork drink. (we at DV8 sometimes finish editing quite late, and in need of a drink, so we will check it out!!) We read somewhere that the average dancer can earn a good wage? Is this true? Yes, they can do pretty well. Dancers can take home anything between £300 and £3,000 pounds a night!

We hear the opening night is on the 17th November and we expect it to be a lavish affair. Wh at can we expect? We are actually having a three day opening even t, that’s the 17th , 18th and 19th of November. Even though we are a ‘Gentlemen’s Club’ we are open to everyone; friends, couples and groups. We want everyone to come down and enjoy the experience (we can say thatthe boys and girls here at DV8 are very excited to check out the launch n ight!). We are open until 5am, the latest license in Oxford. For our opening we will be holding a champagne reception with canapés and cocktails. And at midnight, we will be havin g a special b urlesque performance, with our own Valarie Vegas!

Pole dancing seems to have become a popular way to keep fit, will you be offering pole dancing lessons? Indeed, we will be opening a school of excellence, a pole dancing acad emy. This is where parties can come for the day and learn how to pole dance. They will lear n the art of strip tease and also how to have your makeup done as if you were working in the in dustry, so it will be the whole package. This will also be open to girls wanting to get into dancing as a career.

After the opening festivities, what can we expect from The Lodge on a weekly basis? Open til 5am, Monday to Saturday, with live stage shows all night, and private dancing all night for only £20!

One last question, we are a big fan of the film Showgirls, is there a lot of competition between the girls? There are frienships between the girls, but also there is a lot of competition, which is quite healthy, the girls are always pushing their standards, which is good for them as well as the customers.

Check out the VIP experience, this will offer table service, so no need to queue at the bar. We will be offering some of the best cocktails and champagne in Oxford .

At the end of the day classes you will do a show for all your friends, it will be great fun!

The Lodge opens its doors on the 17th November. Make sure you are there for what promises to be an amazing night, with a burlesque show that’s not to be missed. Full details can be found at www.thelodgeoxford.com, or drop them a line on 01865 721533 and get you and your group on the guest list. We shall see you there!

O

ctober brings our favourite pagan festival (well actually its the only one we know), Halloween! Over recent years we have been following suit of our American friends and really going to town on costumes and decorations, with all our favourite horror characters as well as all the classics, witches, wizard, ghosts and ghouls. For those of you out there not celebrating Halloween at home watching scary horror films or at a traditional party then Oxford provided a night of fantastic entertainment, we hit the town to see what one of Oxford's best clubs had to offer.

Lava Ignite was promising a night of ghosts, ghouls and an invitation to dress up. We knew from the extensive queue outside of people almost killing each other to get in (sorry for the pun!) that it was going to be a good night. We passed some amazing costumes, painted faces and some really sexy spins on costumes. If hell is full of devils looking like that, how could that be a bad thing?

The dancefloors were packed with eager party goers, dancing well past the witching hour to all the classical Halloween songs, Think Michael Jackson’s favourite Thriller and Ghostbusters, you really can’t beat the classics! We loved dressing up and we also loved all the effort everybody went to, sadly though it’s time to pack away the Halloween costume until next year!

xford’s best Irish pub shut its doors over the summer for a much needed makeover. When it reopened its doors as O’Neill’s Irish Pub and Kitchen, we here at DV8 went along to check out what was being served up! We were greeted by a beautiful, warm and rustic interior and of course a drink or two to get the party started. We sampled food from the new menu, which was very delicious and left us wanting more! We will be going back to try the full menu! what would an Irish pub be without music? We love the new O’Neill’s

nne Veck is one of our favourite hair stylists in Oxford. (we think you would agree by looking at the cover model!) We were fortunate enough to be invited along to celebrate Anne being in business for 20 years. Not only were the guests celebrating this significant milestone, but also raising money for Lukeimia Research as well, through a raffle. We were fortunate enough to win second prize, which were two fantastic seats at the Alternative Hair Show at the Royal Albert Hall, where we were fortunate enough to see Anne in action. Here is to the next twenty years!

CHARITY NIGHT @ THE OXFORD RETREAT

The Oxford Retreat hosted its very +own Charity gig in October, which they described best as their own ‘karma giving extravaganza’, all in aid of the absolutely fantastic work that the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Charity does, just in time for Official National Air Ambulance Week. A charity close to the hearts of the Oxford Retreat staff, there was a lot of giving! The Charity is non government funded and provides immediate paramedic care to accidents that are hard for cars to reach. With 1 pilot, 2 staff and 1 helicopter they work really hard to save lives and deal with dangerous and life-affecting situations. The Charity’s aim is to bring rapid medical attention when and where it is needed and to transport patients to the most appropriate hospital to receive treatment best suited to aid their recovery. The night was a celebration of the great work they do and a way to say a massive thank you. With an amazing array of prizes to be won on the raffle and awesome local music, the night was a lovely way to spend a Thursday evening. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to some of the brilliant local talent and chatting to the great people that were involved with raising the funds for such a good cause.

As the night ended we sat on the edge of our seats waiting to see if we’d won one the many prizes, including a night at the Randolph with bed and breakfast or a VIP table, complimentary champagne and free entry to Roppongi nightclub, and even a meal for two Malmaison Dinner. Unfortunately we didn’t win, but we definitely enjoyed the half price cocktails A great night was had by all!

I

f there was one party we had to drop by at on Halloween it was Zombie Nation at Lola Lo. The Tiki-inspired Zombie Nation transported us to a spooky tropical paradise and we wanted to know what they had planned for their extra ghoulish Halloween event on Saturday 29th October. We heard that the drinks were going to have a spooky Halloween twist, we were glad that we didn’t end up drinking pigs blood or something equally gross. Instead we were treated to some delicious cocktails served in the Tiki-inspired skull cups. The dancefloor was shrouded with stage smoke, which dissipated through the crowd and the various booths and fixtures through the club. This, in conjunction with the great costumes, gave a really creepy and scary atmosphere… imagine not being able to see anything and then being greeted by a Scream mask…. All in all the night was a scream, and we are glad that we checked it out ahead of other parties that were available.

DV8 OXFORD /// NOVEMBER 2011

SUPERNATURAL: SEASON 6 DVD Release: Nov 14th The thrilling and terrifying journey of the Winchester brothers continues into the sixth season. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) spent their lives on the road, battling every kind of supernatural threat. And over the years, after dozens of bloody adventures, they finally closed in on their dark destiny. TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN NOVEMBER 18TH The new found married bliss of Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen is cut short with a series of betrayals and misfortunes. IN TIME NOVEMBER 5TH Welcome to a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch AMERICAN CHEERLEADER SECRETS NOVEMBER 18TH A pair of horny college guys get summer jobs at a sexy cheerleader camp. HOW TO STOP BEING A LOSER NOVEMBER 18TH A warm comedy about James who is the consummate dork and makes Ronnie Corbett look like a modern day Don Juan.

Is Simon Cowell finally losing his magic midas touch? This month, for the first time in four years, the ratings for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ overtook those for ‘The X Factor’. Now there are rumours that his Highness has instructed Louis Walsh, the only original surviving member of the judging panel, to axe either Tulisa, Gary Barlow or Kelly Rowland and replace them with the ditched Cheryl Cole. Maybe it’s not down to the lack of Cowell’s face on our Saturday night TV screens, or the dubious way this year’s contest has been run.

Maybe reality TV is finally slipping from pole position in our hearts. True, ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ has been so successful they’re running it in the States but ‘Big Brother’ has died a death on Channel 5 and when the offspring of that and ‘My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding’ combine for ANOTHER reality show called ‘When Paddy Met Sally’, you really start to despair. But the truth is: it IS difficult to imagine a world without reality TV. I mean, what would people do on Saturday nights when they’re getting ready to go out, or cosying up for a night in on the sofa, without it?!

Nonetheless, it seems that Simon Cowell is genuinely worried for the first time. While ‘The X Factor USA’ is performing well, it’s not reached the dizzy heights of Cowell’s hopes. And with more and more people recording TV and watching it back later – with no way of the TV companies measuring that figure – the days of giant viewing figures could be numbered. Either way, it’s good to see Cowell looking a bit less smug for a change, isn’t it. You can catch Sophie weekday mornings from 7am hosting The Morning Glory on Glide FM 107.9 t

If the centre of Oxford is the heart of this historic city, then it could be argued that the Cowley Road holds a lot of its soul. From live music venues through interesting and eclectic shops, to stylish, affordable bars, this varied stretch has more to offer than simple alcohol-fueled nights out. Heading towards town you first pass the most recent addition to Cowley’s culinary establishments, Atomic Pizza. Sister restaurant to DV8 favourite, Atomic Burger further down the road, the outside is vividly decorated with comic strips and vintage film posters, while those who enter are greeted by the unlikely pairing of The Simpsons and a Dalek. Pizzas vary from the traditional to the unexpected; maybe you fancy a Scooby Doo with its hot dogs and white onion. Strolling past the restaurant’s soon-to-be-iconic Silver Surfer above the entrance it feels like an appropriate welcome to the delights of Cowley Road. For anyone looking for a more understated but refined eating experience, you couldn’t do much better than head along to the narrow frontage of Door 74. Don’t be fooled by the unadorned exterior, the food here is top quality. The varied menu includes dishes like the tasty salmon and haddock fishcakes with fresh greens and a lemon and caper dressing. Keep an eye out for their brunch options, as well as

Page 32

seasonal menus as well. But what if you’re out and your wallet is heavy and a bit of retail therapy is what you are after? Well there are various specialist shops catering for highend goods, whether it is jewellery, home interiors, music and of course that ever-present Oxford favourite, the bicycle. Perhaps you’re a skateboarder looking for a new board, some accessories for it, some new jeans or more. SS20’s wide range satisfies the casual shopper as well as the keen skater, stocking brands such as Carhartt, Altamont, Enjoi, Chocolate, as well as many others. There is an ethical side to this most varied of roads too. Shops like Indigo offer fair trade products, as well as locally produced gifts and homeware. During our time browsing we saw some funky jewellery that caught our eye, as well clothes that stand out from the crowd. We also made note of various unique and interesting present possibilities that will be ideal for presents in the run-up to Christmas. Students throng the pavements, shoulder to shoulder with the discerning local crowd enjoying a midday coffee and maybe a bite to eat. It is in this transition from the early afternoon through to evening that Cowley Road comes into its own. It’s

not unusual to see someone typing on their laptop enjoying a freshly-made bagel in George & Delilah’s while nearby two friends chat away, eating a tasty ice-cream, enjoying the final embers of autumn sunshine, or, perhaps more likely, taking refuge in the warmth from another bitterly cold winter’s day. A short walk along the road is the recently opened Rick’s with its classy exterior announcing itself as a continental-style coffee shop. There’s a certain refinement to its brand of café culture, offering an espresso bar, gelato and toastissimo. Inside you’ll find groups of friends sipping on lattes, perhaps with a French Kiss toasted baguette with its combination of shredded chicken, honey mustard and melted brie. As the sun sets behind the low rooftops of the buildings and as the bright colours of the murals begin to fade into the dusk, the question then arises of what to do in the evening. Well if a quiet, traditional couple of hours watching a film in the single screen comfort of the Ultimate Picture Palace; or a live band at the O2 Academy or The Regal can’t tempt you, then there are plenty of other nightlife options available to keep your interest.

Page 33

Café Tarifa ticks the right boxes with its low lighting, Mediterranean atmosphere and wide range of tasty cocktails. If, with any luck, we have another autumn heatwave then it has decent-sized beer garden where we at DV8 have been known to sip a beer or two while deciding which drinking establishment to move onto next. A smaller, more intimate venue with an understated sense of style all of its own is The Library, newlyopened and waiting for you to discover its charms. Formerly the Brickworks, this promises to be somewhere to be seen on Cowley Road, with DJs playing every weekend and a great selection of lagers and real ales to tempt people through the door. Russell Crowe once asked the crowd in Gladiator ‘Are you not entertained?’. Well, for anyone venturing along the Cowley Road, entertainment should never be a problem. From the steady gaze of the Silver Surfer at one end, to The Cape of Good Hope’s quiet haven from The Plain’s manic rush at the other, Cowley Road delivers eats, treats and beats. We at DV8 love it and encourage you to join us.

VANITY AFFAIR

This month Balmain Hair Extensions Global Ambassador, Anne Veck reveals how celebs get their gorgeous, full bodied, voluminous hair! Take a look at the female celebrities. Whether it's in the magazines or on the red carpet, one thing they all seem to have in common is thick, long, luscious locks-locks that we mere mortals crave for! But don't be fooled in thinking they’re blessed by Mother Nature as they are definitely getting help-hair While women everywhere lavish beauty and age defence treatments on their face and body, many forget one of the key zones that give away those tell tale signs of ageing – the neck! sk:n clinics expert Ruth Breeden says “The neck is usually treated to a face down or body up regime with an absence of targeted formulas for the delicate skin of the neck. Without the specific care required to gently nourish the unique needs of this area of skin, then evidence of ageing quickly becomes apparent in a manner that is disproportionate to the over all complexion.” Our neck is subject to acute ageing because there is little or no fat beneath the skin to plump the surface plus the collagen bonds and elastin fibres weaken causing the skin to sag and crinkle, creating that dreaded ‘crépe like’ texture . sk:n has a national network of 38 specialist clinics devoted to the treatment and care of all modern day skin challenges. With a specialist product range and the very latest in technological developments, sk:n clinics professional staff are tackling the issues arising from

extensions!

Balmain’s selection of natural-looking-hair extensions is a brilliant solution for women with various hair problems. Perhaps you’re dying for your hair to grow out a horrible hair cut, or maybe you want to add some thickness to your fine hair type, or perhaps you want that highly covetable two-tone hair colour where the hair starts off dark then gradually gets lighter towards the ends but your hair isn’t in

the best of shape to lighten it? Whatever your hair woe, Balmain’s selection of undetectable hair extensions from champagne blonde to rich chestnut, to highlights extensions will resolve it.

poor neck care with preventative formulas and restorative treatments. What do right now! Using a formula that is carefully calibrated to the distinctive requirements of your neck skin is a must for nurturing the fragile collagen structure. Choose from:

sk:n Neck Firming Cream (£29.00 50ml) Peptide powered extreme hydration restores the moisture balance in thin neck skin and carries essential nutrients deep within the skins layers. The skin feels firmer and smoother reducing the appearance of ‘crépey’ textures. sk:n Moisturising Cream SPF30 (£18.00 50ml) Cover up and protect your neck from UV damage. It’s the area most likely to suffer and least likely to get specific protection so this SPF30 oil-free daily moisturiser is a great light choice to protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays. It is rich in anti-oxidants and active ingredients which prevents fine lines and wrinkles and helps the skin look younger. So stay a

neck ahead in the race against time with any of these formula or treatment choices and don’t forget to pay a little more devoted attention to what can be a beautiful asset. I blame Kate! This time last year I was happy with my mid-length blonde hair but then along came Miss Middleton with her Sloane Ranger luscious, shiny, voluminous locks and it’s all I can think about. So when I heard that Oxford’s newest salon and one of the UK’s most exciting hairdressing brands – Electric had launched its own professional haircare range that promises to transform even the most troublesome hair, into something that looks and feels sensationally soft, shiny and Red-Carpet-Ready, I couldn’t wait to pop in and try them out for myself, and hopefully get one step closer to a princess worthy hairstyle… As a self-confessed product junkie I have tried more than my fair share of haircare products, however when it comes to personal styling, especially when times are tight, I take my purchases seriously, comparing consumer and expert reviews. mindset, I was very interested to learn that when developing the Electric haircare range, Mark Woolley, Creative Director of Electric and award winning stylist, had selected his favourite products from across the leading luxury haircare brands; Kerastease, Shu Uemura and L'Oréal Professionnel and (as he and the Electric team firmly believe) made them better. This is the kind of statement that gets me interested… On arrival at the St Ebbes Street salon, the Electric team greeted me with a very warm welcome and with Louise the director styling me I knew I was in a good pair of hands! After a few quick photos of me before *cringe* and a chat about the new product line it was time to test them out. First, I started with the Electric Intensive Treatment Masque (£23.50, 200ml), which is jam-packed full of moisturising lipids and vegetable protein to replenish dried out locks. The best

thing about this for me had to be the yummy smell, which I’m reliably informed is a mixture of coconut, olive and wheatgerm oils. Louise’s Top T ip: When applying the masque use your thumb and forefinger to really work the conditioner into the hair shaft for maximum hydration. Next, the Electric Smoothing Cream (£17.00, 100ml) - this styling product is designed to give hold, softness and manageability and fight the dreaded frizz. It also doubles up as a heat protector, essential if, like me, you use a hairdryer, tongs or straightening irons on a daily basis. I have tried a number of smoothing creams and heat protection sprays in the past and while the concept is great, the reality is, more often than not, a sticky residue which weighs down my hair. The Electric Smoothing Cream was very impressive, with the formula

evaporating to leave an invisible silky finish. Once blow-dried, my hair was left feeling luxuriously soft and glossy and, most importantly, full of longed-for volume! The finishing touch came in the form of the texturizing paste giving my hair definition and hold. My hair looked fab and lasted all night, which with dinner and drinks in the Living Room after, was a late one! I would highly recommend these products (having bought all three). I have used the treatment masque on a weekly basis and have really noticed a difference in the appearance of my hair and my boyfriend quickly nabbed the texturizer. I might not be able to bag myself a Prince but my new hairstyle definitely made me feel like a princess for the night!
