It has been discovered that one of the main focus of diseases in sub-Saharan Africa is due to the lack of primary sanitation, especially in those areas most affected by poverty. That is the main reason why the project aims to bring to the village of Yélékébougou (Mali) an infrastructure that provides proper sanitation for all its inhabitants. Indeed, it will host other multiple functions of social interest to the local people from this market village. Due to the resource limitations of the context, the project has been constructively optimized to use the less material possible. Moreover, there is no need for electric power, avoiding this way further expenses in equipment and its maintenance. As water is the most precious resource in this area, a recycling system has been developed to minimize waste. All this makes the project a very simple but effective system, ideal to be copied, constructed and implemented by local people in their daily lives. The shape of the project is defined by two sanitation blocks that enclose a middle polyvalent space for social interaction. This space is thought to be a reunion spot for locals and will house different activities involving market business, leisure or kids' education.

Each block has 4 sides associated with different functions. The inner side has the laundry area to take advantage of the shade of the fabric facilitating this task. One of the short sides is intended for the source of drinking water obtained directly from the well. On the opposite side is the access to the bathroom by means of a ramp, which functions as a transition space between the inside and outside of the block. Finally, the back side is characterized by a brick lattice, which seeks to give the first privacy filter without compromising good ventilation to the bathroom block.
