With adventure centres from Kleinmond to Hermanus, Caledon to Cape Town and as far as Knysna, there’s something to enthral and exhilarate you and your family. If you choose to skip a lazy day at the beach and get the adrenaline lowing, book an adventure activity. ZIPLINING Get high on the wonders of Ziplining as you slide between the tree canopies. You have options to choose from. Hermanus: The Tree Top Zipline tour Hermanus starts in the Hemelen-Aarde Valley, traverses over a small waterfall (when there’s enough water) between the poplar trees and the canyon. High up (eight to 50 metres), our guides direct you on gliding from platform to platform where birdlife chatter echoes in the forest. Platforms are high in the tree canopy with views of the forest. The platform slides range from 20 meters to 200 meters and, with safe braking-systems, you control the speed. The tour is about two hours. To enhance the experience, there’s a trailer to transport guests to the starting point. The cost is R25 per person (cash to be paid on the day). Takings go towards the NGO we work with - they operate the transport to raise much-needed funds.
Adventures has and it’s based in Kleinmond. Adventurers are provided wetsuits and safety gear before heading into the Kogelberg World Heritage Site and the Palmiet River. This nature reserve has walking trails and unspoiled, natural beauty. Once on the river (depending on the water level), the guides assist with safety - and ensure you are comfortable - before running a number of rousing rapids along this perennial river. The full experience from arrival to departure is about four hours (depending on the river low). SANDBOARDING A recreational activity on a 230-metre-high sand dune near Betty's Bay. Guides will provide training and safety on the dune and, after your training session, you start on a smaller section of the dune before progressing higher and higher. QUAD BIKING No previous experience required. Our Quad Bike Trail in Hermanus is rated one of the top trails in South Africa. The route goes through the world-renowned vineyards of the Hamilton Russell and Southern Right Wine Farms and travels up the mountain, through the fynbos kingdom into Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Your halfway mark is a pristine look-out point from where you have a spectacular birds-eye view of Hermanus and Walker Bay. HERMANUS STARGAZING
A memorable experience for anyone from six years old. Caledon: Experience the wonders of the Overberg as you glide amid the lush vegetation, encircled by wildlife. Towering above the ground, slides range from eight to 18 metres. Scattered below, the vegetation luctuates from ivy cloaking the soil, to old oak trees and tall poplar trees swaying in the breeze. The 12 platform slides vary from 60 meters, enjoyed by children, to 200 meters. The course’s total length is 1.2 km. Cape Town: One of Cape Town’s best adventure activities, the course is in Constantia Nek on the Silvermist Estate near Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
