We were very excited to welcome fellow students from Dwight New York, Dwight Qibao (Shanghai), Dwight Seoul, Dwight Dubai and a group from the 'Königin-Luise-Schule' in Berlin, Germany for this musical extravaganza. A sellout crowd heard Beatles classics like Yellow Submarine and Come Together.

Herbie's

Renaissance

Rondeau

Herbie came 2nd place in the competition and won the category of ‘best poem by a 10-year-old’! The judges said how brilliant his reading was and were blown away at the vocabulary in his poem. Herbie was a real risk-taker and an excellent communicator when both writing and sharing his poem with a wider audience, and we are all very proud of his efforts.

Herbie Wares' Poem: Renaissance Rondeau

A choir sings Monteverdi, The sound echoes back as T30*. With a flat roof, the voices ring clear, A dome makes them bounce by the chandelier In a church or monastery.

Best proportions express harmony: Echo notes both piano and forte. Ratios pleasing to see and hear, When a choir sings.

World and water become spheres readily, Saw Renaissance architect Alberti. Perfect shapes delight eye and ears like Greek theatres where sound was sharp as spears, From ancient times to seventeen-thirty Maths sails in the air, where a choir sings.

* T30 is the standard reverberation time in a church.

Technology Boost in the Makerspace Room

We have been upgrading and promoting our Lower School Makerspace room over the last few weeks. The Makerspace room is next to our Year 5 classroom. It is often used as a breakout room for small groups and their teachers. It now has a dual purpose as it is set up to accommodate several features of technology including a green wall for videoing, a Lego wall for sharing models, a section on stop motion animation, a virtual reality section for writing and recording VR and we even have a 360 camera. All of these tools can help our students uncover ideas, work collaboratively and creatively. I'm sure many more classes will want to spend more time in our Makerspace room!

Junior Frontiers Day

Our first Frontiers Day was a great success and we are thankful for the teachers leading this new initiative in the Upper School. The students' design thinking abilities grew over this two day course, as they created, prototyped, researched, pitched and presented a range of ideas to

enhance an area of Dwight School London. The skills developed will serve students well in the world of future work/jobs, and the whole premise of the frontier method is to engage students with lean startup methodologies - very appropriate for

New ideas from our inquisitive minds

the 2020 workplace and beyond. The winning pitch was done by Adam (M2), Zach (M2), Leo (M1) and Josh (M1) and their idea of a ‘Dwight Helper’ app will be further developed in the Spark Tank with Mr Turner!

Gnome Alone

This year's early years festive play was the story of a young gnome who keeps getting overlooked by Santa when he needs help with some jobs. Eventually Norman the Gnome's persistence pays off and he gets the job of helping Santa pack presents on his sleigh. Here we see some of the cast before the play is about to start.

DPA Out and About events

The Dwight Parent Association is our volunteer parent organisation that provides a focal point for the school community. The Out and About events are a great way to see various sights across London while making some new friends.

This term the group visited Kew Gardens, the Museum of Brands, the Beefeater Gin Distillery and had an end of term dinner.

If you'd like to know about future events then email Michele O'Neill on michele@seanoneill.com.

A visit to the Tate Gallery

You may know that last year Steve McQueen photographed more than 75,000 Year 3 children across London's schools for his latest exhibition.

The project aims to be a visual snapshot of people in the city and was inspired after the Turner Prize-winning artist looked at his own 1977 class photo.

Our Year 3 Dwight students (now Year 4) took part last year and visited the exhibition. The photos are being showcased on billboards by roads, railways and train stations across London.
