Welcome to the Offering

Please consider this your personal invitation to join us for the 9th Annual “Buildin’ A Brand” production sale. We truly appreciate the fact that you have taken the time out of your busy schedules to evaluate our program. We hope you find that the genetics represented here offer an opportunity to add value to your operation. We enjoy hearing all the feedback and success stories from those that have purchased our genetics over the years. It’s very satisfying to know that our unwavering commitment to producing highly efficient, functional cattle that are productive, fertile, and long lasting is able to be utilized outside of our own operation. We concentrate very hard on building up from cow families that have these inherent traits deeply embedded in their heritage. It leads to a much higher degree of consistency in the Success of generational progression. This is evident by Lots 1 & 2 in this sale which have been derived of two of our most prominent cow families to reach Purebred status and still posses these defining characteristics. Most importantly we want to thank all of those who have help us throughout the years. Especially this year while dad (Tim) was in the hospital fighting for his life. We were truly blessed with some incredibly great family, friends, neighbors, and even a Sale Manager (Nick Dwyer) that stepped up to help chore, calve the cows, and get the heifers bred during this challenging time. I promise we’ll never forget the sacrifices you all made for our family, as well as the many, many people that continuously called and text us, offering prayers and support. Dad and I have since discussed just how fortunate we are to be literally surrounded by so many good people that are here to help us at a moments notice. It is very humbling to know just how many “salt of the earth” folks the good lord has put in our lives and we are truly grateful for each and every one of you! Please feel free to call, text, or email us if we can be of any assistance or answer any questions. Thanks so much for your time and God Bless!

If you take the time to truly study this individual closely, it becomes apparent that she uniquely combines an impeccable structure and flexibility when in motion with a powerful skeletal design stationed firmly upon a large hoof and ample bone. She displays a bold sprung rib cage with an overall three-dimensional build yet is still extremely flat shouldered and angular through her front one-third. Coupled with these physical attributes we’re talking about a PUREBRED Simmental that has an “API friendly” set of numbers and cow family backing her up that is highly favored at the Sandeen Ranch for their foot quality, fertility and consistent production of good functional cattle. Her dam, Sandeen Loaded Lady 6025, holds a $60,000 valuation and is owned with Kauffman Ranch of Montana. We firmly believe that this will be a dominant genetic asset that will make a highly notable contribution to the Simmental breed in the coming years.

This one certainly does provide the “wow factor” from a phenotypic standpoint! She’s got a great look, lots of middle, and is flexible on the move. We have been extremely pleased with the amount of functionality and stunning physical presence these Bankroll cattle have to offer. We also appreciate the fact that this pedigree couples into the equation both Miss Werning 8543U and Sandeen Donna 8386. Two of the most dominant producing cows in the recent history of the Simmental Breed. 8503 is backed by a very good Dam who is derived of the Lock-N Load / 8386 mating which has provided more satisfied customers here than probably any other we’ve ever produced. To follow that up 8503 herself comes out of a litter of flushmates that at this point are most similar in type and kind and quality. This tremendous purebred Donna breeding piece will undoubtedly harness what is perhaps the most economically important trait in the beef/cattle business, consistency in quality of product.

Sandeen Donna 8386

Sandeen Donna 5120 is a female that we own with our longtime good friend’s, Kenny & Tammy Scott. We chose to keep here to work due to the fact that she shares many of the characteristic that we appreciate in her mother but with a slight advantage in terms of overall horse power. She possesses that same docile nature that 8386 passes on to nearly all of her progeny. She’s a big square hipped cow with a long attractive front end, and additional stoutness of skeleton. We had our first sampling of Battle Cry offspring from her this spring and they are massive, stout and nice! We also felt that she would be the perfect candidate for CCR Wide Range, so we invite you to share with us and get in on the ground floor of the exciting new mating as well. Both mating’s are sexed female embryos, therefore they should render either Purebred Battle Cry heifers calves or ¾ blood Wide Range heifers. Two very exciting mating’s. IVF Heifer Embryos produced at Trans Ova, guarantee one pregnancy per package. Offered with ScottLand Genetics.

Donna 8120 represents two very potent and productive cow families, Sandeen Donna and Werning 8543U. A tremendous pedigree that produced the very quality you would expect from such a lineage. 8120 is extremely laid back in terms of docility. She’s a deep flanked, square hipped female that is very loose in her structural makeup which will lead to many years of production once her show career is over. Her excellent growth numbers coupled with her bred-in power would indicate that she could even be a great bull producer if that happens to be of interest.

Donna 8386 is undoubtedly a “once in a lifetime” kind of cow. She has lead our program for a number of years due to the fact that she tends to dominantly transmit her positive attributes into her progeny, regardless of what sire is used. Therefore, we have chosen mating options based strongly upon the cow families they represent in order to concentrate and improve the generational progression. We feel that Bankroll, Battle Cry, & Relentless represent this philosophy very well and we anxiously await the results of these matings. To show the promise stored within the Bankroll mating we will offer a fall born heifer by this mating as Lot 6. Embryos are all IVF embryos produced at Trans Ova. One would be hard pressed to argue if you like a powerfully constructed female that’s bold ribbed, long necked, and has a set of numbers that are about as good as she is on the hoof. When the gavel finally dropped she had set the record as the highest selling bred heifer ever to leave our place at $90,000 going to Tom Fullenkamp. Power House Donor Candidate!!! This is a tremendously powerful individual in terms of mass, muscle and skeletal design. She is a wide centered, wide based, three-dimensional female that, in much the same fashion as I’ve noted in her siblings of years past, maintains a high degree of efficiency relative to her contemporaries of a similar size and scale. These Lock-N-Load x 8386 females are just flat good cattle when put into production. They milk great, are fertile, and maintain their condition in real world environments while yet still offering added performance and marketability. We’ve also come to notice that most of these top end Donna 8386 daughters, such as 7209, have incredible performance and growth up to a year of age, then tend to taper off to end up with a very reasonable mature cow size. These are very unique traits that are rarely found and need to be utilized in order to move the Simmental breed in a forward direction of Real World Production, rather than the use of a somewhat fictional index number that some would prefer to base the breed around. Major Donor potential here for those who have an appreciation for a wide bodied, mid-sized female that is long spined and stout. This ¾ blood beast possesses the necessary credentials to make some really good purebreds including an attitude improving disposition that could well compliment some of today’s most popular lines. She is built nearly identical to the dam of Sandeen Donna 8503, Lot 2, with a half frame score advantage. From a more practical perspective, this is the kind of cow that can thrive in fescue country. Relative to the many siblings that have come before her, Donna 7001 most closely mirrors her infamous granddam, Coleman Donna 386. Incredibly predictable productivity in this lineage!

Donna 7023 is the most modest framed, efficiently designed individual in the Donna line-up this year. Every time I look at her, I have to think back to the Sandeen Donna 4325 heifer that Andrew Speas selected from our 2015 sale. 4325 was a near perfect replica to 7023 in terms of both a genetic and phenotypic standpoint. Some people thought she was a bit too small to ever produce the goods, but Andrew has graciously shown them otherwise by already producing offspring that been division winners at both Kansas City and the Iowa State Fair. These are the kind of cows that pay the bills.

I had envisioned making a full page spread for Donna 7869 because she is certainly good enough to warrant it. However, she is so gentle and laid back in the picture pen we were not able to get what I felt was a photo worthy of properly representing her. Though she may not have the muscle expression of some of her contemporaries, she is an absolutely massive beast! Wide centered and bold from her fore-rib to flank and very sound structured and functional. Made extremely similar to her flushmate brothers that grabbed the attention of our bull buyers at last year’s sale where three brothers averaged nearly $7,000.

Sandeen Silver Lining - Sells as Lot 69

MV Lady 1021 is a cow that has matched up extremely well with 1143Y as is evident by the resulting progeny represented here. 7021 and her full brother, Sandeen Silver Lining, were both standouts amongst their respective calf crops. It is our belief that 7021 is of the ideal size, type, and kind necessary to produce highly marketable purebred progeny. She’s a deep flanked, full hearted, level hipped individual that exuberates a No Holes, No Nonsense sort of appeal.

AI Bred 4/29 to TNT Unified AI Bred 4/29 to W/C Lock Down 206Z These 1273 daughters bring a slightly different twist to our “Donna” program. Coleman Donna 1273 genetically blends the most highly regarded maternal sire in Angus history, N Bar Emulation Ext, with what Larry Coleman considers his greatest producer ever derived from the Donna tribe, the $290,000 Coleman Donna 714. We are very proud to have such an immaculate pedigree to back this impressive flush of 1143Y daughters. They possess the additional curb appeal that can most definitely assist in the marketability of their offspring but let’s not overlook, first and foremost, the functionality of these females. These cattle are built right from the ground up, with longevity in mind. They’re not extreme in any one way, they’re just very well balanced, no-holes kind of cattle. The only outlier in the bunch would be the 7972 heifer. She does hold the obvious advantage if you like larger framed cows and probably possesses the additional stoutness to go with it. A very intriguing set of heifers for anyone interested in getting into the cow business for the long haul.

Sandeen Donna 7730 is probably one of the very best combination heifers in this year’s offering in terms of blending true cow power with curb appeal. She’s a long sleek necked, up-headed female that has the perfect saturation of mass, stoutness, and structural integrity to compliment it. Also entering into the equation is a very useful set of production-oriented numbers that will be a great asset when marketing 7730’s phenotypically desirable progeny. I predict this highly impressive specimen will earn her way to the donor pen one day.

Donna 7350 has been a bit greener in her condition most of her life due to being born to an undesirable recip. Although she’s catching up now, I would have liked to have seen her reach her full genetic potential early on. I believe the Hard As Steel x 73T cross should be tremendous from our experience with both individuals. Therefore, I have to believe that 7350 should produce exceptionally well.

A pair of solid black full sibs to Donna 7730 and Donna 7768 that are just slightly more modest in their frame, but do not deviate from the pack in terms of absolute quality. 706 is extremely photogenic. She’s stout hipped, big boned, bold ribbed and chisel fronted. 7232, however, was not as impressed with the picture pen. She’s a much better heifer than her photo portraits, but we just absolutely couldn’t get her fired up enough to pose for the camera. A very useful pair of females both bred for a high probability for baldy offspring. Sandeen Genetics | 23 | Buildin’ A Brand Production Sale

AI Bred 4/29 to W/C LnL 1143Y AI Bred 4/29 to W/C LnL 1143Y The lineage behind this flush of sisters represent some of the very best cows ever employed at Sandeen Genetics. It’s the same pedigree that is carried by the last year’s $29,500 high selling open female, Sandeen Classy Lady 7008. Sandeen Lady 7251 displays many of the same attributes that astute cattlemen tend to appreciate about her Dam. She is, in my mind, the ideal size female that is highly durable in terms of her skeletal structure. She’s good footed and wide centered with a desirable upward design at her neck-shoulder junction. 7956 is built with longevity in mind. She may give up some in terms of overall stoutness but she is a big bellied, feminine fronted, extremely flexible individual with much more set to her pastern than most Upgrade descendants. Expect a tremendous amount of fertility, milk production, and udder quality that has been deeply embedded in this gene pool.

There may be some bigger, some stouter, or some more massive, but she is about as fault free and complete as they come. An outstanding pair of 1143Y daughters back to OCC/Jauer bred dams. 7465 had a $6,000 maternal sister by Lock-N-Load in our 2015 sale and 7448’s Anchor dam is still young but off to a tremendous start. These forage efficient beauties are good footed, good structured and have a hair coat that will weather our northern winters yet still shed off for the fescue summers. These low maintenance, functional females are the kind that are highly profitable if you are interested in the long-term cow business.

AI Bred 5/17 to SWC HOC Conagher 720 represents the end of a chapter for Sandeen Genetics’. She is the final daughter born of the last living Tharpe Angus cow. When we acquired Marvin Tharpe’s Angus herd in the late 90’s he had, what we felt, were one of the last remaining herds of great Angus cattle. He had never chased the fads or trends, but rather continued to breed for big bodied, durably structured, moderate framed cows. Those cows propelled our operation to a whole new level at the time when we started mating them to DJ Salute. A no-name bull at the time that made magnificent females when mated to these Tharpe Angus cows.

This is a very practical, yet impressive set of quarter-blood High Regard granddaughters. Though they will likely be more on the affordable side of things, we’ve always found the quarter-blood Simmental cows to be the most efficient producers on the Ranch, pound for pound. They don’t cost much to run and that little shot of heterosis does amazing things in terms of pound of product produced.

Birth Weight 85#. This Silver Lining bull has been a standout all of his life in terms of quality and do-ability. He’s a bold centered, thick ended, cool made calf that is near ideal in his structure and flexibility when set into motion. Along with his stellar physical presence this guy flat out performed his contemporaries quite handily. His EPD profile most definitely does not reflect the true nature of his individual “pounds heavy” type performance. In addition to his dense design that packs pounds on in an efficient, proportionally correct manor, I can only imagine a pasture littered with his incredible big bodied, baldy daughters that might just bare a strong resemblance to his full sister selling as lot 20.
