Pride of the Prairie - Page 1
Welcome to the 2020 installment of the Pride of the Prairie Sale. This year we are excited to offer each of you one of the deepest and most quality driven sets of bred females this sale has ever seen! Yet again the Pride group has stayed committed to offering each of you the best representations of their herds possible. As you study this catalog you will be sure to note the emphasis placed on cow families as well as AI/ET breeding. The group of breeders represented in this catalog are all fully invested in the seedstock business and work hard to keep their programs on the cutting edge of this business. Their commitment of time, labor, and monetary investment gives each of you the ability to jump start your own programs by investing into their operations. These breeders spend the hours to source the best sires and cow families in the industry to propagate their own programs and then offer to you some of their valued genetics. The cattle being offered come from breeders with strict standards when it comes to culling problems. The cattle are good footed, have good attitudes, and have bred up early. The open heifers highlighted from Bar QH Simmentals are all halter broke and ready to hit the show circuit for your Junior show persons. If you have any questions regarding this year’s offering feel free to give any of us a call. We love to discuss the cattle industry and look forward to placing the right animal into your operation. Thank you for your evaluation!

I was at Dwyer’s “final edition” and I fell in love with a pair of Angus heifers both out of Lazy H 495. My dreams were crushed when they both soared over $15,000 until I realized there were pregnancies selling. I bought both of those pregnancies and here’s the result, I don’t claim to be the brightest bulb in the box but luckily it was shining bright that day. Once again, I’ll let you take the pick and develop your own opinion but I’ll say this, when I went out to the Lazy H dispersal and saw what Barry had accomplished over his career it was breathtaking. I have had the pleasure in my short life of meeting/knowing some great cattlemen and the Lazy H brand fit that bill. My point is the breeding behind these females is strong, bid with confidence!

Here’s our sample of one of the winning-est bulls in recent years, Copacetic. I bought a package of embryos from the Cowtown Classic, and certainly not dissatisfied with the result. Greg Burden thought enough of her young dam, 703D he bought her out of the Circle M dispersal. I get lost doing footnotes sometimes as it’s hard not to become attached to these girls watching them grow, just come check her out. Dog gentle, and ready for a junior.
A true sweetheart here of a halfblood, both in her makeup and attitude. Half and maternal sibs have sold for big money this year, and when you see her it will be easy to understand why.

Another sired by Logic, and I love the cattle he’s producing. This baldy isn’t the flashiest thing in the sale but study her overall make up and it’s hard to deny she will add to a herd. Her young dam D335, has put a heifer in the sale for the third year in a row now. Consistently like that doesn’t come around every day.

Here’s one everyone can get on board with. Talk about a silhouette and a big long neck, giddyup! Her young dam sired by Step Up was our cover girl and top seller in 2016 purchased by Don Hayes from Ohio. Later went on to be 9th overall at the eastern regional. Although Donny roots for the Buckeyes we still value his not only his commitment to the program, but he adds to it. Her Dam D362 is not only absolutely beautiful as a cow, but is huge bellied, sound, with a picture perfect udder. The only thing this heifer needs is time and a junior on the stick! Those who aren’t familiar with Logic, raised by Bloomberg and owned by JS Simmentals he’s a full sib to the heifers that two holed the Jr national and is bound to leave a footprint in the breed.
H723 is the type of animal all visitors ask “what’s that one”? Picture does no justice, but she’s flat good. She’s smooth sided, great hip, long front and smooth joints. Going back to the great Hara’s Princess cow, one that’s no stranger to raising cattle that end up with a purple banner. This young cow is just starting to make her mark here, with her first calf a maternal sib commanding $4100 last year.

I always wanted to try Primo, so when I saw these eggs selling at the Cowtown Classic in Ft Worth I couldn’t resist. Very different in kind but high in quality. H707, the perfect baldy is a little more refined and feminine. H709 is a beast, and I don’t mean that in a negative way. I mean power, from front to back this girl is one you just think man I can’t wait to make her a cow. Now don’t get me wrong I think she’ll show, she’s good fronted and deep as they come but I think you could mate her 20 different ways and they would all end in success. We held over two falls for this sale and they are absolute tanks. We purchased her granddam as a past top seller out of the Illini Elite sale and she is a cow making machine. Here is one that carries on the same phenotype as the rest of the females in their lineage. Body, mass, and power are traits that never go out of style and the Stepping Stone calves come easy and have an awesome look.

The second of our two fall holdovers and she is a true sale highlight. Z237 is a donor that we absolutely love as a two time NAILE champion herself and her sire being a NAILE champion the guess work is taken out of her pedigree. I could write a book on how much we think of this one but check her out sale day and see for yourself. We have a long tradition of bringing powerhouse breds to this sale and F113 is just that kind.

If you follow the Angus breed at all then you do not need any introduction to the Barbara cow family. These cattle have won every major show in the country and their progeny is doing the same. A SimAngus twist with this cow family is the kind that make cows that last. Big feet, sound, square hipped, and the type of look that makes it enjoyable to go check cows she has it all.

Another year and more Nicolette offspring coming to the sale. Her dam is a past Pride of the Prairie sale topper in her own right and has been the kind that makes money every year. She has an abundance of cow power and can make your house cat look crippled. Bred up to calve to Effling’s great Outlaw bull here is a bred you can start generating money with quickly after sale day.
Another year and more Nicolette offspring coming to the sale. This one carries on all the things that we love about that cow family in capacity, structure, and build that make cows that last. 913 is one that we had not planned on selling but we are committed to bringing our best genetics to this event so here she is. Her granddam is a past Angus Junior National champion, her dam won her division at NJAS and NAILE and her sire is the $250,000 Hammer. I could write a lot of things but if that doesn’t peak your interest there is nothing else I can say that will. Bid early and often on one that is sure to be a investment not an expense.
A blaze face heifer that offers the length and extension and growth in her pedigree to make cattle that grow and perform throughout their life. Our first Chisum daughters are calving out now and we couldn’t be happier.

Alicia and I were scanning through sale catalogs and we both thought wow Hecksel is selling some really good Breds, we made the trip to Iowa to the Royal Classic and came away with the Dams of both G667 and G673. Both females hit us very hard, both very different in kind just as these Uno Mas sisters are. G667 is more moderate, very functional, and just going to be a cow that produces every year and holds her body condition and more importantly structure. G673 is a true standout, little more frame, little more class, and wow when she cocks off you talk about a silhouette she’s got it. She wasn’t pampered in a show barn, but I realized the other day taking pictures she should have been. When you analyze this heifer from a overall picture there’s just not many flaws. If you want a female that is very likely to pay for herself in the first calf I suggest you bid early and often as this one will flat raise one, whether it be show heifer or a bull she simply has the look.

PE 6/1 till 8/1 to Bar QH Relentless Star (3796652). This trio of reds all out of Road trip and Keller cows are sure to trip some triggers. Not only are they red, they’re good. If you’ve followed my program you’ll notice every year the Keller cows consistently put daughters in the sale, and here’s the proof why. G645 and G692 are both just flat out impressive not only in their kind and structure, but holy cow talk about belly dragging, easy keeping, good uddered type of females get on board! G674 doesn’t have the pizzazz of the other two, but still carries the same foundation of why I bought the Keller females to begin with. They produce, year after year they produce. The girls calve on time, they breed back right away, and raise a big calf. Let’s not forget that’s step one, step two is the potential to raise a great calf and I can tell you with experience given this pedigree the ground work is laid. You might ask who’s Road Trip? With the heifer Sara Sullivan will be dragging around, the world will know soon enough!

It is an honor to be invited to the Pride of the Prairie Sale this year and we wanted to bring our best breds to the sale. Bankroll x Broker x Frankenrider Angus cow clicked really well. The genetics alone in her make her a standout, but she got the phenotype to go along with it.
4th Meridian Farms Inc.
12 Years ago we purchased a Macho 1/2 Blood cow that really put a jump start to our Simmental Program. We flushed her a few times and could sell the calves really easily. Finally in 2017 we kept back one of her best a 3/4 Fat Butt daughter. Her 1st calf 1143Y daughter was exactly what I hoped for. Takes many years for a vision to come together. Don’t let this one slip by come sale day.

Quantum Leap daughters have captivated quite a bit of interest in the past few years, and have proven themselves time and again in the show ring. This female is larger framed, stoutly constructed, with that added body and punch we are all looking for.
Blackford Farms
Relentless progeny have continued to produce banners and high sellers all across the country for the past four years and heifers like this are the reason why. Flat shouldered, bold centered, and striking on the profile. It’s easy to see why so many breeders are putting Relentless daughters into their programs.

722G has been a crowd favorite for everyone who has visited the farm this year. Her dam, 457C, was a many time champion for Jordan Stephens, including Supreme Female at the Kentucky State Fair selected by Jim Bloomberg. Cow families in this female run deep and are impeccable in terms of a combination of maternal abilities and phenotype. Do your homework on the pedigrees of Retail Product, 770P, 015U, Duracell and Quantum Leap. Not to mention an awesome set of numbers to boot. Folks here is a bred female that checks all the boxes. When Nick asked about consigning this female, my first answer was no. After a lot of thought and discussion, we decided to sell her because being a new consigner, I wanted people to see our very best. This female’s mother was a Division Champion at the North American in 2015 and keeps giving us great ones every year, including one of the top selling bulls out of our past bull sales. She is big footed, super sound, easy fleshing and is developing a perfect utter. Vet called her AI safe to the super calving ease, big numbered, bull Right Now who is one of the new top sires in the Werning program. Here is a female sure to work for any breeder and advance their cow herd.

We don’t have many cattle sired by Halftime, but he has yet to fail on this farm. We bought a group of Breds from Bloomberg a few years back and all have done extremely well. G670 is that type that doesn’t necessarily wow you from any one standpoint, but when you analyze her you realize that there’s just no way a pasture full of females of this kind could owe you money at the end of the day. Super super easy keeping, feet and legs for the long haul, and what’s sure to be a impeccable udder. Let’s face it, Broker x Halftime isn’t only a winning combination in the show ring, but cattle that can go out and work and be productive outside of the ring in many scenarios.
G644 is one of the best Breds we are offering hands down plain and simple. She was in the show barn last year to be sold as an open then got under the weather so we treated her and decided we’d just keep her. When the decision was made to sell her it wasn’t taken lightly, I think these cattle sired by Legendary will be cornerstones in programs for years to come, I have yet to have one I didn’t like. If you look at her dam, B025’s production it’s an impressive list on the progeny report. Productivity runs deep in the blood here.

She wouldn’t cooperate, not because she’s crazy but because she’s calm. Her Dam that originated out of the Frost program had a $9500 maternal sib last year. This one is pretty good folks, and her dam is phenomenal. I can tell you this is about as productive as they come maternally, and Road Trip is young but he’ll be known soon enough. Take advantage here, this will be a solid investment.

This combination has put several animals in the sale and production for us. I’m not big into preaching on footnotes, I think producers should make their own assessment, but I will say there’s money to be made on this pedigree. The Step Up daughters have tons of Longevity with perfect udders. Step Up might be one hoof away from the nursing home as far as age, but he’s still out breeding cows and that tells you how long his daughters will last.

Red heads are hot right now and the best way to raise a good colored red Simmental is to start with a dark pigmented one. This Secret Weapon daughter is massive at every angle, and yet gets out and moves with the best of them. She should have a red one by Uno Mas.
It’s hard not to like a good red headed baldy, especially when they are made this good. I love the udder design, and brood cow look this female displays not to mention she is due up early to Night Watch.

Be sure to go to the pen or ask Bob & Nick about this one on sale day. Due to a long day and no sun in the picture pen, we didn’t get her pictured before the catalog printed. She is soft in her design and loose in her skeleton with a very maternal look as a bred female. When you have pedigrees from Dominance, High Regard, Caliente, and 015U in a female, her odds of being a great cow just went over the top.
This is a video auction so please come out early to look through the entire offering prior to sale time

I’m not going to sugar coat it, a spade is a spade. These are not the top females in the sale, but the dollars of earning potential when you figure the initial investment vs return is there. Every year some of the happiest customers are the ones that buy these Breds that aren’t as fancy as their counterparts. Rather you breed them, use them as recips, that’s your decision but I’m sure either way the end result will be dollars in piggy bank.

Due to calve 12/18/20 to PVF Surveillance.
The Ambush Lady cow family has been our strongest producing cow line. Her mother by Brilliance has without doubt been a farm favorite. Peterson Renegade 3338 is a bull we bought from Panther Creek Ranch in 2015, he has given us many producing females. Her calf by Surveillance should be a promising addition to any program. CHV.
Due to calve 2/5/21 to PVF Surveillance.
This Incredible daughter has all the right tools to be a front pasture kind in any operation. Due to the untimely death of Incredible there are not many daughters available. Her dam is a young cow on the farm, having produced 21G as her first calf heifer. CHV.

Here is one of my favorite females on the farm. Long fronted, with tons of center rib and standing on tons of bone. Her dam, CJ Ambush Lady 42C by SAV Brilliance is a top producing female, with the look of 412G. Her sire by Musgrave Sky High, gave her the extra boost in pedigree and performance. Her calf by Synergy should have plenty of potential for your program. CHV.

400B, Roxy, is one who has got it done not just as a past show heifer but also in production. We have a small program so our cows raise natural calves each year and Roxy has been one of our most consistent producers. Her daughter Dixy was Reserve Bred & Owned as a calf at Regionals, 7th Overall Bred & Owned as a Senior Yearling at Junior Nationals, Champion Senior Yearling at the Illinois State Fair. Her son Ferdinand was 6th Overall bull at Junior Nationals, & Reserve Percentage bull at the Illinois State Fair. This year she sells safe to Turnpike which should be very exciting.
Clark/Glick Farms
A great opportunity awaits right here! Lilly was the Reserve Simmental Heifer at the Illinois Beef Expo, 9th Overall Bred & Owned at Regionals as a calf, 15th Overall Bred & Owned at Junior Nationals as a yearling. This fall pair sells with no bull exposure and her calf by Pays to Believe, Tattoo H201, is extra impressive. If you’re looking to upgrade your donor program let this female join the herd.
