Preface I have been reviving an old project that started a while ago and has started up a new project blog to track the progress. Being a lifelong fan of Dungeons & Dragons, with the unfortunate problem that I cannot find anyone to play with I have decided to create a test implementation Dynamics 365 in the AD&D format just to see how it would work and if I can find some creative ways to use Dynamics 365 and chose to implement the Waterdeep Trading Company as an example where I can track their many legal (and not so legal) entities within Faerûn.

Introduction Faerûn has several local nuances that we will need to support in order to get everything up and running smoothly for the Waterdeep Trading Company, including address information for the region, and the tracking of the Faerûn currencies of gold, silver, copper, electrum and platinum denominations. Not to mention the numerous local languages that need to be supported. Unfortunately, Faerûn is not one of the officially supported regions for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. Although we have submitted numerous support requests for a localization pack to be officially delivered for Faerûn since we think that it is an up and coming marketplace, we have not seen any official roadmaps where this is a planned deliverable. Don’t worry though; we will show you how to set up the required localizations yourself so that we don’t have to wait for the localization packs to be developed and delivered with the standard product.

Opening the Address Setup form To add a new Country code to Dynamics 365 we will need to add it within the Address setup in the system. In order to do this, we will need to access the Address setup form within the system.

How to do it… Step 1: Open the Address setup form through the menu search

Type in address into the menu search and select Address setup.

Adding a new Faerûn country code Now we will want to add a new Country code for Faerûn that we will be able to use in our addresses in the system.

How to do it… Step 1: Select Country/region tab

Step 4: Update the Short name

We will want to start off by switching to the Country/region section of the form.

Next, we will add a Short name for our new country.

Select the Country/region tab.

Set the Short name to Faerûn.

Step 2: Click on the New button

Step 5: Update the Long name

Now we can add a new record within the Country/region codes.

And then we will add a longer name (if there is one) for the new country.

Set the Long name to Faerûn.

This address format will have the Street, City, State, Postal Code, and the Country in the format. This should work for the addresses within Faerûn.

Adding the Faerûn realms Now that we have our country code defined for Faerûn we can move onto the next step and set up all the realms within Faerûn.

How to do it… Step 1: Switch to State/province tab

Step 6: Click on the New button

To do this, we will want to add the realms as State/provinces within the address details.

Now we will add the next state code which will be for the Sword Coast.

Switch to the State/province tab.

Click on the New button.

Step 2: Select the Country/region

Step 7: Update the State

Before we start setting up any more realms, we will want to switch over to the Faerûn country code.

We can give our new State a state code. Set the State to SC. Step 8: Update the Description

Click on the Country/region dropdown list And choose FAE.

And then we will give our state a description.

Step 3: Click on the Apply filter button

Set the Description to Sword Coast.

Then we just need to filter out the state codes to just the ones for Faerûn.

Step 9: Click on the New button, update the State and update the Description

Click on the Apply filter button. Step 4: Update the State

We will continue on and add a state for the Trackless Sea.

We will start off by giving the first record a State code.

Click on the New button, set the State to TS and set the Description to Trackless Sea.

Set the State to TN.

Step 10: Click on the New button, update the State and update the Description

We will add a state code for the Western Heartlands.

Next will be the Vilhon Wilds. Click on the New button, set the State to VW and change the Description to Vilhon Wilds.

Then we can add the Lake of Steam. Click on the New button, change the State to LS and change the Description to Lake of Steam.

Let’s move on and add The Deamonlands. Click on the New button, change the State to DL and set the Description to The Deamonlands.

Then add the Lands of Intrigue. Click on the New button, set the State to LI and change the Description to Lands of Intrigue.

Next will be Auril’s Teeth. Click on the New button, set the State to AT and change the Description to Auril's Teeth.

This will save us time in typing in the cities and also allow us to use the cities later on for shipping information and estimating the cost of Dragon fright vs. the old-fashioned cart,

How to do it… Step 1: Switch to City tab

Set the Description to Waterdeep.

To do this, we will want to access the city setup within the address maintenance form.

Step 6: Select the State

Switch to the City tab.

And then we will link the city to its state of the Swords Coast.

Step 2: Select the Country Code

Click on the State dropdown list And choose SC.

Configuring the Faerûn currencies The Faerûn currency is straightforward, and we at the Waterdeep Trading Company want to take it all, and not a copper piece less. The problem is that Dynamics 365 is not set up to track gold, silver, copper, electrum or even platinum coins. Let alone convert between the denominations. So that means that we will need to set up the Faerûn currencies within Dynamics 365 and set up the exchange rated between the coinage. Switching to the Faerûn Exchange Rate How to do it…

Step 1: Choose the Exchange rate type This will show us all the standard currency conversion rates that we have for Faerûn and right now the cupboards are bare.

Adding the Faerûn Currency Exchange Rates Now we have a little bit of work to do to define all the different conversions between all the currency denominations.

Configuring FPP to FGP Exchange Rates Step 1: Click on the New button

Click on the To currency dropdown list And choose FGP.

Let’s start off by creating a new record and defining the conversion between FPP and FGP.

Now that we have our from and to currency, we will want to set the conversion rate which we will do in the Add or remove exchange rate section of the form.

Click on the New button. Step 2: Select the From currency

Step 4: Click on the Add button

We will want to select our From currency code first.

We will do this by adding a new Exchange rate for these currency codes.

Click on the From currency dropdown list And choose FPP.

Click on the Add button.

Step 3: Select the To currency

Step 5: Update the Exchange rate

And then we will want to select our To currency.

All we need to do here is set the Exchange rate between FPP and FGP. Set the Exchange rate to 5.

Configuring FPP to FEP Exchange Rates Step 6: Click on the New button

Step 7: Select the From currency

Now we just need to map the other currency conversions by creating new exchange rates for them.

We will select out From currency first. Click on the From currency dropdown list And select FPP.

We will continue the setup by adding an exchange rate from FPP to FEP.

And then we will select our To currency.

Step 21: Click on the New button

Click on the From currency dropdown list And select FGP.

Now that we have the conversion rates for FPP configured we can start working on the other currency codes. We don’t have to set up any conversions for any of the reverse combinations that we have set up, i.e., FGP to FPP because the FPP to FGP will handle the math. But we do need to set up the remaining combinations for the other denominations to the lower coinage.

Step 23: Choose the To currency And then select the To currency. Click on the To currency dropdown list And choose FEP. Step 24: Click on the Add button

So let’s move on and set up the conversions for FGP, and we will start by creating one for FGP to FEP.

Now we will add an exchange rate record for the currency combination.

Click on the New button.

This will allow us to enter the exchange rate for the currency pair.

We will select the From currency.

Set the Exchange rate to 2.

We are working our way through the currency codes now. We have the FPP and the FGP conversions in the bag. It’s going to get a little easier now because the combinations are starting to shrink. We will now work on the FEP currency conversions.

And then we will select the To currency code. Click on the To currency dropdown list And choose FSP. Step 39: Click on the Add button Now we will add a new exchange rate record.

Now we will want to configure the conversion between FEP and FSP.

Click on the Add button.
