he European Institute for Commercial Communications Education (edcom) was created by the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) to promote excellence in commercial communications education and research. Its aim

is to establish a co-operation between academia and industry professionals, as well as facilitating cross-border education and exchange of students.

ver the last 10 years, edcom has proven to be a strong academic network and framework within which members can grow. Our mission is to offer students valuable opportunities to apply their skills in our competitions and to build more

bridges between academia and the industry. We are constantly evaluating and improving the scope of all of our projects in order to better accomplish this mission and to contribute to the progression and growth of the communications field.

OUR PROJECTS We currently have a number of different projects and initiatives in cooperation with our member institutions. These projects are focused on building the reputation of our graduates and to raise awareness amongst the industry about those unique characteristics that make edcom alumni stand out. The currency and quality of

our teaching staff, quality of our content, constant exposure to an international perspective, multi-disciplinary curriculum and exclusive access to international projects and conferences addressing the hottest topics in our industry prepare edcom students for the real world of marketing communications.


We are constantly searching for ways to improve our projects and increase the value of edcom for all of our members, students, academics, and institutions. Our members benefit from free access and participation to our projects and initiatives, as well as everything that comes along with being part of our diverse international network.

E

very year edcom holds one online meeting and two international meetings in different European cities to bring all its academic representatives together. These meetings are a great chance to network and share best practices with academics from all over Europe and get inspiration from guest speakers from the industry. edcom projects and initiatives are also discussed and feedback is exchanged.

AD VENTURE

T

his is a student competition that challenges students to form their own agency and prepare an advertising campaign in response to a specific brief. Campaigns are evaluated by a jury composed of client representatives & EU officials, senior advertising professionals and academics representing a variety of communications and marketing disciplines from each country.

THESIS COMPETITION

T

he edcom Thesis Competition aims to reward the best Bachelor and Master theses among edcom member schools. The winning students will receive a cash prize of €500, while the participating winning school will receive a €500 voucher which can be spent on EACA initiatives.

e organise 6 podcasts for academics and students per year showcasing six different job roles one can get in an advertising agency. It's a great resource for students who would like to learn more about the jobs and roles available to them after graduation.

uring 3 days, national agency association directors, international advertising and media agency networks, academics, top agency executives, and advertisers meet to discuss burning industry issues and future needs.

THE LATEST ISSUES This year's Evolution Lab had a full day conference on ‘Advertising in the age of artificial intelligence’. Players from across the ad industry debated how artificial intelligence will change the ad industry, how agencies can accommodate these changes and lead them, and how to ensure that graduates have the skills needed to thrive in the changing market.

EURO EFFIE MODULE In addition edcom provides the Euro Effie Module--ready-touse and up-to-date learning materials using original Euro Effie campaigns that focus on teaching this concept of marketing communications effectiveness by using real case studies and allowing students to serve on a Student Euro Effie Jury to award the most effective campaigns.

dcom is comprised of European higher education institutes from across 20 countries. edcom

members meet three times a year to discuss the latest projects, trends and industry developments during the edcom meetings and networking dinners. Every two years, edcom Members elect a new Research Committee and Admissions Committee. The current Admissions Committee will supervise edcom’s membership criteria and will approve new membership requests, while the Research Committee is responsible for leading edcom’s research efforts, organising calls for papers and selecting speakers for the edcom Annual Conference.
