WHAT HAPPENED?

So, in place of some sensationalist titles we were gonna do for today’s “cover story” — titles pertaining to yesterday’s party events, mostly tame since we’ve all been so good on this EASA (and along the lines of SHOCKING! Two girls discover they have the SAME THUMBS (photo) or You won’t BELIEVE this: Woman gets ATTACKED by slug! — or even Man arrives at THE END of party - claims he forgot his bowl - WHAT is he HIDING??) — well, instead of all that, in light of an uncomfortable event during the party itself it would seem amiss to print out some juvenile substandard jokes.

Never forget: that is not our community.

At long last, today is the peak day, of the Perseid meteor shower (known as the Tears of St. Lawrence in some countries). For all those susceptible to romantic stargazing in place of staring in their sweetheart’s deep blue eyes, we recommend looking up at the sky and wishing upon a falling piece of cosmic debris. The marked area of the sky will be their apparent radiant point.

UMBRELLA

(almost) LIVE from

ISOSAARI REALITY (day 1 to 8)

After an intense year comes the need for a retreat-like event.

Since a retreat could mean a different thing to all of us, this gathering took the shape of its participants.

What were the things necessary to survive and thrive as a community on an island?

Everyone attending, organizers and participants, were equally responsible for the event — as well as co-creating its reality and community.

Expect more in the following days, especially in the open google doc.

True to its nature, the event was a very off-grid retreat.

Those who have returned are still collecting their thoughts — there is a need to quiet one’s mind after establishing a new reality.

The photographers are yet to send the pictures in. But it is not as important. We hear they were joined by Juhani Pallasmaa in the sauna.

On Isosaari island in the outer archipelago of Helsinki, during summer the sunset never ends.

There is a feeling of a time gap, which my body doesn’t understand, so it continues running.

It’s a peaceful moment in which people get closer to each other, with the flow of a ritual of togetherness.

What’s it all about? What do Umbrella and other workshops want with all my information, dreams and ideas??

Who’s doing the lying? Who are the real information vampires of EASA? Well, this outpouring of thoughts, drawings and manifestos is the very thing EASA is made of. Collecting them is our duty, our hallowed mission.

So today we are nagging you again, asking you to join in.

Our open doc is exactly that - open.

We still encourage, beg and implore every workshop and EASian, be they big or small, participant or guest, to drop by and write something in (the link is, as always, in our ig bio).

Well, what if I’m not online that much at EASA? No problem! Inspired by the deepest historical roots of scrolling down social network walls, today we put up a Giant Scroll in the Grand Staircase of our old school building, easily visible from the info point and the bar, to work as a physical (dare we say REAL?) open doc.

So come and join in on the fun. Draw/ write/glue anything and everything that happened to you today. Let us write the pages of EASA history together! And be gentle to the paper; like most of us from time to time, it is fragile.
