FASHION Kozii´s wax printing technique
With backgrounds in Anthropology of Art and Environmental Management, Kozii´s creators launched the brand in 2015, choosing the charismatic City of Tavira as it’s home, they now have four stores along the beautiful Portuguese southern coast, the most recent one in Lagos. Kozii’s designs are the result of many years of thorough research and travelling around the world, seeking to uncover exclusive materials. Its meticulous choice of fabrics, patterns and colours allow its designs to adapt as a second skin and creating an identity which is never under or overdressed. Amongst other processes previously used in Kozii’s productions, the Woodblock Printing remains its star technique. It consists of transferring patterns onto textiles by means of hand-carved wooden blocks. It is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing, yet capable of yielding highly artistic results, some of which unobtainable by any other method. This Year Kozii has ventured into a new printing technique, mixing in its classic block printing technique with a wax resist dyeing process, also known as Batik. melted, usually in a large pot. The carved wooden blocks are carefully dipped in this melted wax and the desired pattern is slowly hand-stamped onto to the fabric. Once the wax cools and thickens, the fabric is dipped in a cool colour drum where the wax acts as a resist component by not allowing the dye to penetrate the waxed areas. Finally, the fabric is dipped in a hot water solution that melts and removes the wax, leaving the area covered with wax in white. The process may be repeated to add on more colours, if desired.

Kozii is a growing fashion brand based in Tavira that is distinguished by maintaining the highest standards of quality and awareness in its material selection and production processes, blending contemporary sensibilities with long-lived traditions of excellence.
Batik prints are especially unique due to the way certain wax blends will "crackle" during handling, allowing lines of colour to come through on resisted areas and making every single piece unique. The more you learn about Kozii, the more you understand how its designs are crafted from scratch - with intention - knitting a piece of its soul into everything it makes.
