Meet Teresa and Peter O’Connor, owners of restaurant O Monte in Quinta Velha, Cabanas. This pretty little restaurant is tucked away within the small complex, next to the Jolly Sailor bar. The beautiful sunny terrace covered with stunning Bougainvillea is the perfect place to enjoy a lunch in the shade of the midday sun, or an evening meal. Peter is a Golf professional at Castro Marim golf and country club. He and will be found helping out at the restaurant in the evenings after his ´daytime job. Teresa has owned a restaurant for the last 6 years on the beach close to Manta Rota. Her father

always had restaurants in the Beja region, therefore she grew up in the restaurant RESTAURANTE environment. During Covid, the couple took a step back and took the opportunity to make a few life TRADICIONAL decisions. The restaurant O Monte was well established and had a good reputation. It was available and the couple decided to take the QUINTA VELHA - CABANAS leap and completed the deal on the premises. They took over in August 2021, and after renovations were complete, they opened this year. The menu consists of traditional Portuguese food, done the traditional way. No fancy focus is on quality ingredients which is found in abundance here in the Algarve.

I was lucky enough to try the fried Prawns pictured, and I have to say they are on par with the best I have ever tasted. This was followed by the Duck Magret with raspberry sauce, served with blueberries, raspberries and salad, also pictured. I can promise you it tastes as The desserts options are impressive too; Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse, Lime Mousse, plus a selection of typical Portuguese cakes including Alfarroba, Fig and Orange tart. The full international bar includes wines from Douro, Alentejo, Algarve, Setubal, and of course Green wines. Currently the restaurant has live music every Sunday with more evenings planned in the near future. I hope you get a chance to visit this special place, if you do, say hi to Teresa and Peter from us.
