Darkness Into Light was created in Dublin, Ireland in 2009 where 400 people set off to walk 5km to raise awareness in the global fight against suicide and self-harm. Each year the walk provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community and to show their support for those who have been bereaved by suicide. Their team of volunteers, in Ireland and overseas, have returned year after year to help make the experience a rewarding one and to help us all continue to raise awareness in the global fight against suicide and self-harm. In 2019 over 200,000 people took part in 150 locations, in 16 countries across 5 continents. Since Darkness Into Light began, Their dedicated supporters have helped them raise almost ¤25 million, which has enabled them to keep their doors and 24/7 helpline open for people in crisis, free of charge. The Healthy Minds Algarve Association is now bringing this event to the Algarve for the first time and they intend to invest the money raised into local mental health services and clinics for children and adults across the Algarve. The 5km walk will take place on Saturday 9th May 2020 at 5am departing from The Shack Lake Bar, Quinta do Lago – where everyone will walk into the sunrise at the same time. Registrations for the event are open from the 25th February 2020, to book your place visit www.darknessintolight.ie/ algarve or www.healthymindsalgarve.org Keep up to date with the route, ticket information and details via their social media pages - darknessintolightalgarve Ticket Prices are available on the websites and include a DIL t-shirt, water and breakfast is optional at the end of the walk for a small donation to the charity.
