God's Good Time… Each moment, each breath of life is so precious, Dada taught us. Every day, day after day, God gives us 24 x 60 x 60 precious seconds. How do we spend them? Each one of us must be accountable for the treasure of time that God has bestowed on us!
“The season for the fruit is over. You will not find them now.”
Once, while they were in Karachi, Sadhu Vaswani came into Dada's room one afternoon and said, “Jashan, I am feeling a little hungry.”
Jashan was determined to get the fruit for his Master. He offered to pay a hundred rupees if they could procure the fruit from somewhere or the other. It was the very first time that his Guru had asked him for anything and he wanted to be able to give it to him at all costs. But despite his best efforts, he could not succeed!
Jashan was taken aback. The Master was indeed a poor eater and only ate frugally at meal times. But it was the first time that he had ever said he was hungry!
Tired, dispirited and crestfallen, he returned to the Master. “Forgive me Gurudev,” he said to him, “try as I might, I simply could not find what you wanted.”
“Tell me what you want, beloved Master,” he said earnestly. “Let me go and get it for you right away.”
Sadhu Vaswani looked up from his reading, and smiled at Jashan. “I did not need the fruit,” he said. “I only wanted to teach you a lesson, that there is a time, a season for everything. Once the season is over, we cannot avail of its benefits. You too, dear Jashan, are at a crucial season, the season to seek God and find union with Him! Make sure this season is not wasted!”
“I really do not want to put you to any trouble…” said the Master. “No trouble at all, Dada, just say the word and I will get whatever you want.” “I think I would like to eat some cherries,” Sadhu Vaswani said. “Is that all? I will go and bring them right away,” said Jashan, and tore off on his trusted bicycle. Reaching the bazaar, he moved from shop to shop asking for cherries, but it was not to be found anywhere. He searched high and low, but there were no cherries to be found for love or money. Every vendor gave him the same reply,
Be aware that every breath of life is precious! Spend every moment, every minute in the consciousness that life is a gift from God. It is only through the human birth that we can achieve selfrealisation, and return to God, to abide f o r e ve r i n m o k s h a , o u r u l t i m a te liberation.
