As well as a thank you for all the support, we want to say a massive thank you to Alison, who was so keen to help us out, however possible, to promote the work we do. She did interviews, wrote her story, took phone calls, monitored Facebook and was generally just a complete superstar. I love the challenge of providing the best care for my patients regardless of the environment they are in. I am incredibly proud to be part of an organisation that has evolved to become a world-class helicopter emergency medical service. It is great to know that we are working at the cutting edge of pre-hospital critical care and can provide interventions and treatment usually seen in the resuscitation room or intensive care unit of a hospital. As a result of our hard work, we are seeing significant benefits for the major trauma and cardiac arrest patients we

We are based at one of our operational sites, which means I can sit at my desk, hear the red phone ring and watch as the helicopter flies off. Nothing could be more motivating than that sight and the fundamental challenge in the charity is to give all staff that same rush of pride and energy. One important aspect we’ve been working on is mental health. In the last 12 months we’ve been encouraging staff to talk about it, training them to support each other and

hospital blood products on scene will actually improve patient outcomes, and we don’t know if giving blood and plasma early in the course of injury aids survival. This trial, which we are performing with several other air ambulance services, including MAGPAS, will determine whether this strategy is effective or not. n 17 October 2016 Briony EvansBrown (aged 12) was waved off to school, by her dad Alan. Later that day Alan received a call from Briony’s school (The John Leman High School in Beccles) to say that she had fallen in the playground and hit her head, the air ambulance was on scene and could he get there as soon as possible. On arrival Alan received the awful news that she had suffered a cardiac arrest. Anglia One had been tasked at 15.31, carrying Critical Care Paramedic Chris Neil, Doctor Haris Begovic and supervisor Doctor Marcel Rigaud, and the crew arrived at Briony’s side by 15.48. The critical care team administered general anaesthetic, provided specialist pre-hospital care treatment, managed her airway and provided enhanced life support – putting her into an induced coma to protect her brain.
