Ukrainian Days enjoyed by all with great weather, fine cuisine and entertainment Tracy Harding Staff Writer

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village hosted Ukrainian Days this past Sunday. With thousands in attendance it was a huge success, with many locals and visitors from around the province and beyond taking in much of the Ukrainian culture. The day started off with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society. There was a market, an art show that featured Ukrainian art and pysankys for purchase, as well as musical entertainment went on all day at different venues throughout the village. One of the busiest locations was the "Summer Kitchen", where line ups never slowed down with people wanting all of the great Ukrainian cuisine. Visitors could purchase everything from perogies, cabbage rolls, kielbasa, borscht and more.

There was a special section for kids to make different crafts, as well as a game section that the kids could do bean bag toss, tug-a-war, log throwing (with pool noodles), and a puzzle. There was a chess challenge where you could either challenge some one to play chess or learn to play chess. There was also the Centenary Pioneer Certificate presentation, which included a plaque presentation at the Centenary Monument. Each of the familiesreceived certificates to take home for keepsakes. These certificates go to families that are first families whom have settled in Canada, and Lamont County as well. Organizers reminded audience members there are only two years left to nominate families for this great honour. Then the concert began which included music by the Ukrainian band Zhyto from Calgary, Lastiwka Choir, and Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble. A great time was had by all who attended, enjoying the weather, great food, and great entertainment.
