For Lamont County Reeve Wayne Woldanski the Village of Chipman’s Centennial had special significance and meaning for him as his family has been farming southwest of the community for three generations. “I’m proud to be part of the community,” stated Woldanski, who was one of several dignitaries and special guests in

attendance for the historic three day celebration Aug. 16 to 18. Hundreds of guests participated in the 100th anniversary along with former and current residents in addition to many visitors from near and far. Descendants of Clarence Campbell Chipman’s family travelled from Winnipeg to take part in the historic occasion as well. Christopher Chipman,

along with his sisters Wendy (Chipman) Bissky and Jennifer (Chipman) Brown were front and center for the Welcoming Ceremonies which got underway shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Jennifer’s husband Rick, “the family’s genealogist” addressed the large crowd assembled underneath a large tent on main street, along with Christopher. Jacquie Fenske, MLA

for the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville constituency, also addressed guests and thanked Chipman Mayor Jim Palmer, chief administrative officer Pat Tomkow and her assistant Toni Nygren, for their persistence and dedication to making the “spectacular” event truly unforgettable. “If it (Chipman) wasn’t on the map before; it is now!” said Fenske. The dignitary also spoke of

the importance of honouring history and paying tribute family roots. “We need these events to remember where we came from and where we are now.” Fenske felt Chipman would continue to be a spectacular and vibrant place to visit, work, live and play 100 years from now. Fenske presented a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Minister of Municipal Affairs Doug Griffiths.

Fellow MLA Janice Sarich, a fourth generation Ukrainian with roots in the community, stressed the importance of attending such an event and wished the community continued success before presenting a gift to Mayor Palmer.
