Nearly, 750 people came out to vote for their favourite candidate to represent the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville constituency, last Wednesday evening. A total of 742 ballots were cast by members, and after an hour and fifteen minutes of tallying the votes, Jacquie Fenske was officially declared the winner. For Fenske, the victory on the first ballot, was
bittersweet. “We’re all friends. We all wanted to win,” stated the Strathcona County councillor, who is serving her fourth term of office. In her acceptance speech, Fenske thanked her fellow candidates, their families and campaign team members for their hard work and dedication. She went on to thank the voters for taking the time to cast their ballots. Then Fenske proceeded to thank her family, and campaign team led by Margo Moore. “We’ve a bigger race
ahead of us,” pointed out Fenske, who said she was looking forward to working together with her other team members and the next meeting that will be in the not to distant future. After taking a few minutes to accept congratulations from her opponents, and talk with party officials, Fenske made her way off stage, and into the waiting arms of family, friends, and campaign supporters. Hugs, kisses, smiles, and handshakes were in order as she spent some
time sharing the moment, and thanking
Jacquie Fenske everyone who came up to congratulate her. Fenske couldn’t say enough about her team,
and the hard work members put into the campaign. Fenske said good organization and constant communication were two important components of her campaign. She believes social media did play an important role on many different levels, as well. “And the Good Lord helped with the weather.” “I’ve got the best crew in the world,” declared the exuberant Fenske,
who went to join them shortly after her win. It didn’t take long for talk of the “new campaign” to begin. They realize more hard work will be needed to be done before the provincial election is declared, and that could be anytime in the next month or two. Fenske, who admits she’s pretty good at juggling, will have more balls to throw in the air; but she is totally focused on the next challenge ahead of her.
