Over the years we have we have recovered substantial amounts of money for our clients in counties throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We have references and our clients overwhelmingly say they are happy with our services. Results are important and examples of our injury recoveries include:

In last months issue I ran the story on pages 10&11 about the Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza at the Allentown Fairgrounds. In that story I used some information on Tattoo Tony Rodriguez that was incorrect. I would like to apologize to Tattoo Tony for not having my facts straight on who he is. I included a photo of Tony, that I had taken at the show, and some wrong information. I had gone to the wrong website and included some information that was not correct. Tony is not from Long Island but is from Atlantic Highlands, NJ and the name of his shop is Under My Skin. You can view his website at www.undermyskintat2.com I am very sorry for any inconvenience that I may have caused to Tony by my error. I would like to add that when I returned his call about this he couldn’t have been a nicer guy. He was understanding and accepted my personal apology. Check out his website to find out more about Tony and what his work is all about. He does some awesome freehand work which is something you don’t see much of today. He has been featured in numerous magazines and is knows as the “tattoo artist to the stars” as stated on his website. It just goes to show you that you have to be careful what you see on the internet and how you do your searches. I ended up on a website that uses his name in the URL and got some information that wasn’t at all about Tony. Again, Tony is a great guy and a class act to accept my apology. I’m sorry, also, that I didn’t do a better job on fact checking for you, my readers. Now get some wind in your face and enjoy this great weather that we’re having. See you on the road. 10th Anniversary With A Bang Spring Thaw Rendezvous kicks off the year Story and photos by Norm Keller

The first Saturday of May ushers in the ride season with the Spring Thaw Rendezvous hosted by the Northampton Fire Department at the Municipal Park in Northampton, PA. This year showed us another great event, my hats off to the guys that put this growing event together every year. There were plenty of vendors in the tree shaded park and plenty of food vendors too. You might say there was “Something for everybody!” Food to tempt the taste pallet of every fancy, bike raffles being offered by various ride clubs and plenty of flyers to pick up for upcoming events. You could even take your chance on a boat load of booze being raffled off. Music was again provide by the Southern Steel Band, a gritty band from New Jersey that brings home that Southern Rock sound and keeps your toes tapping. During the intermissions of the band DJ Hammer kept things lively throughout the day and into the evening. A poker run started at the fire station in the morning for those that wanted to get an early start on the day. Later, there was a bike show and a burger eating contest with a trophy provided to the winner. Billy’s BikerList.com and Strip Club Choppers of PA/NJ were on hand and would take photos of you on the pole if you were up for it. Over in the parking lot across the street the Krazy White Boyz were showing their skills with an exciting display of showmanship that drew crowds throughout the day. Later in the day was a Chinese Auction and to top of the event from 5-8:00 was the band, Crazy Heart. There was no reason to be bored at this event and many stayed and made a day of it to the evening hours. It was a great time to catch up with old friends and have a good time. I’m already looking forward to next year. If you didn’t attend this years 10th Anniversary you did miss a good event. However, you did get to read about it here, in the East Coast Biker magazine. Look for more photos on our website.

Rides and cancellations in April were signs that the riding season has started in the tri-state area. Wind and rain caused the Ride to the Tide to be cancelled on April 22nd since the Delaware Law Enforcement and the other sponsors did not set up a rain date. The ride was going to raise money for the Special Olympics and had start off points at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware and Jakes Seafood in Dover Delaware. Wind and rain also affected the Spring Roar to the Shore on April 27-29 in Wildwood, New Jersey. Cold weather on Friday despite sunny skies deterred many riders as well as the rain predicted for Saturday. Friday was so cold and windy that vendors who set up near the Bolero Hotel on Atlantic and Thirty-second Avenues did not even open and Friday night not one bike took the ritualistic ride up Atlantic Riders brave the weather to attend Roar to the Shore in Wildwood, NJ Avenue. The evening was so quiet that one lady rider said that she just went straight to bed. On Saturday a few hundred riders braved the chill and drizzle to meet up with friends. The vendors opened but the most action took place at Columbus Park in front of the Convention Center at the Boardwalk and Rio Drive. The New Jersey Cruisers exhibited their vintage automobiles, and the city held its Spring Festival in the Park where a band consisting of Medical Doctors serenaded the crowd with music from the fifties. There were craft vendors as well as the Reinert Winery which provided samples of their varied wines. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia on April 12th, the Philadelphia Fire Department led riders past Ladder 10 for a moment of silence as part of their run to show respect for killed and injured firefighters. The run started at Aramingo and Tioga at 7:30pm and ended at Tasker and York in Philadelphia. Hundreds of riders gathered to show respect for “Stretch” Smaltz” of Smaltz’s Harley-Davidson who died from cancer over three years ago. They rode in Stretch’s Memorial Ride 2012 on April 15 th, the ride started at the dealership located in Eagle, Pennsylvania and ended at the Blue Comets Motorcycle Club on Route 113 in Skippack. The club provided a day of free food and beer along with bike games, prizes and a live band. Charlie Dresden, the Ride Captain of Tri-State HOG, planned a couple of rides to start the season. The first was the Bike Blessing and Kick Off Ride on April 7th where after the bikes were blessed, Dresden led the group for a ride around Chester County and returned to Hannum’s Harley-Davidson’s Chadds Ford Dealership at noon for food and music. Dresden said the ride was successful because many riders participated. On Sunday April 29 Dresden led another group of riders to Bill’s Old Bike Barn in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania that left from the Hannum’s Media Dealership. Bill Hendrickson, the Activities Director of Tri-State HOG, led the first official ride of the club from the McDonald’s in the Granite Run Mall in Media on April 7th to participate in Eagle HOG’s Poker run which originated at Smaltz’s Harley-Davidson.

A favorite gathering place for bikers in Wildwood

Schaeffer’s HD Block Party Dealership raises money for MDA Story and photos submitted by Carl Hess

On April 28th Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson and Deer Lake HOG held a community Block Party to support MDA. Riders turned in their fundraising packets for Ride for Life XXV and participated in raffles and auctions to benefit MDA. The community supported the event and enjoyed great food, games, and skill riding shows.

(Right) Dennis & Carol Schaeffer honor the flag as the Star Spangled Banner is sung. (Below) Participants in a western themed line dance while an exhibition on unicycles takes place.

Schaeffer’s and Deer Lake HOG are committed to finding a cure for neuromuscular diseases. Visit their website www.schaeffershd.com for upcoming MDA event information. The annual MDA Block Party, which precedes the Ride For Life is Schaeffer’s biggest event of the year. Harley-Davidson Motor Co. began its involvement with MDA in 1980 encouraging its dealerships to hold annual fundraisers.

Beth Sattizahn sings the Star Spangled Banner while Brian Calderone stands at attention.

Schaeffer’s has raised more for MDA in the past 25 years than any of Harley-Davidson’s other dealerships. As of 2011, Schaeffer’s raised $2,704,435 for MDA. This year Schaeffer’s total contributions should top the three million dollar mark. The Block Party raised $30, 907 and this added to the Ride For Life donations put the MDA dollars earned for the year to $128,731. This years Block Party was a western theme and Line Dancing was but one of the many events that took place during the day-long event. Despite early morning temperatures in the upper thirties, there were many bikers who rode to the event to show their support of the MDA. Motorcycle Skill Riding Shows were presented at 11:00 and then again at 1:00 followed by the ageless Burd Guers and 12 year old Trenton Poust, both of Orwigsburg, who put on a unicycle demonstration. A flag raising was part of the patriotic noon ceremony while Harley rider Beth Sattizahn sang the “Star Spangled Banner” while master of ceremonies Brian Calderone (left) and others stand at attention. This dealership continues to work hard for MDA and they manage to have fun at the same time. Schaeffer’s HD is a great place to do business.

A Great Day in Gettysburg Erik Estrada and Kristen Renton visit Battlefield HD Story & photos by Norm Keller

During the late 70’s and early 80’s the TV show CHiP’s was one of the most watched shows of the day and it featured Erik Estrada as a motorcycle riding Highway Patrol officer in California. “Ponch”, along with co-star Larry Wilcox, ruled the highways on TV for six years catching the bad guys and helping those in need. In the year 2000, Erik was named the international ‘Face’ of D.A.R.E. which is a campaign against drugs. Erik is devoted to making children see that staying away from drugs is ‘cool’, and that there really can be ‘role models’ for children of all ages. He recently stopped in at Battlefield Harley-Davidson, located in Gettysburg, PA, to join in an open house celebration. To say the least he stole the show as he took time to meet and great his fans and pose for pictures. Estrada is an honorary member of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (www.blueknights.org) and proudly wears their patch when at motorcycle events. You can find our more about him on his website www.erikestrada.com or just about anywhere on the web if you Google his name. Along with Estrada was Kristen Renton, “Ima” from the Sons of Anarchy TV show of the FX Channel now in it’s fourth season. Kristen, seen on this months cover, has worked in many TV shows including “The OC”, “CSI: NY”, “Days of Our Lives” and “CSI: Miami” but her role on SOA has given her the most exposure of her extensive career. Kristen is a very likeable and down to earth girl that was easy to work with at this event. She was more than cooperative to let this photographer pose herself on the bike of Mike “Stumpy” Stump and his 2006 FLSTFL which he purchased at Battlefield HD. Between Kristen and Erik (right) is dealer principal Jennifer LeVan, who with her husband Dave, began the business in July of 2000. Also in the photo is Meredith Catchhings who does the marketing for the dealership and worked on bringing in Estrada & Renton to this open house. Find our more about Battlefield HD on Facebook or their website www.bfharley.com. The location of this dealership, outside of Gettysburg on Rt. 30 east, gives them plenty of room for hosting great events such as this. Check their website for more events and their advertising in this magazine to find out more. As usual, I had a great time and always enjoy meeting with you. More photos are available on my website Photo Page, check them out. When you stop in the dealership tell them that you read about Erik Estrada and Kristen Renton in the East Coast Biker magazine.

by Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352) LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com

This month I want to address an issue that I have not discussed in detail before, but it is one that comes up constantly when answering questions for clients and those of you who e-mail and call with your questions.

1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com www.cycleattorney.com

The issue is that of medical payment coverage or what is commonly referred to as PIP (personal injury protection) coverage. As most of you are aware, your auto policies, in contrast to your motorcycle policies, require $5,000.00 in medical payment coverage in Pennsylvania, and normally $250,000.00 in medical payment coverage in New Jersey. However, in New Jersey, most policies have a deductible and 20% copay up to the first $5,000.00, whereas in Pennsylvania there are no copays or deductibles.

Motorcycle policies, on the other hand, rarely, if ever, contain any coverage for medical payments, because it is not required in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. As a result, most people assume that it is unavailable and/or too expensive to purchase, so I decided to do some investigation to determine if medical coverage is available on motorcycle policies and, if so, how much does it normally cost. The answers varied widely depending on which insurance company you choose. I was advised that my own insurance company (State Farm) does not offer medical coverage on my motorcycle policy, however, many insurance companies, both large and small, do offer the coverage. Most insurance companies vary in the amount they offer from a minimum/maximum of $1,000.00 to $10,000.00. The cost also varies from a low of $32.00 per year for $2,000.00 worth of coverage from an internet insurance company to $200.00-$400.00 per year for $5,000.00$10,000.00 worth of coverage through more traditional insurance companies. Fortunately, many of my clients have some form of private health insurance through their employers, which in most cases will cover the medical bills incurred in a motorcycle accident. However, as many of you have found out, there are often high deductibles and co-pays that go along with this coverage and often there are burdensome restrictions as to where you can go for treatment. Unfortunately, for those who do not have any form of health coverage and have been incurred medical bills as a result of an accident, the situation is much worse as medical bills, even small ones, can be financially devastating. Although it is virtually impossible to purchase enough medical insurance on your motorcycle policy to cover all potential medical bills incurred as a result of an accident, depending on which company you select, it may be affordable to purchase at least minimal medical coverage that would cover not only your deductibles and/or co-pays, but would also help pay some of the medical expenses if you are involved in an accident and do not have any health insurance coverage at all. Even though I realize that purchasing medical coverage may not be affordable to every rider, I would suggest spending a few minutes investigating on your own to find out if medical coverage is available from your company and if so, what it would cost to add it to your policy. I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or by calling me at 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

Sincerely, LEE D. GABER, Esquire The one and only, “Cycle Attorney
