I can’t believe how all of a sudden there’s so many events to choose from that it’s going to be hard for me to decide on where I’m going to be from one week to the next. All of a sudden, the sun is shining and the weather is great for riding and from the looks of this month’s calendar there will be no shortage of places to ride to. I’m looking forward to getting some serious riding in this year. It’s often said that when you get in the “business” of motorcycles you don’t ride as much as you did before. In my case it’s because when I show up at an event I have to bring camera equipment, a pop up and magazines ... And it’s hard to put all that on the back of my bike. I am planning on getting out to some events on the bike this year so don’t forget to say “Hi” when you see me. I’m looking for more bikes and babes for the cover of this magazine and my online magazine. I always appreciate theme bikes so if you have a bike that you would like to see on the cover get in touch with me and lets make it happen. You don’t have to be a professional model to get on the cover of the magazine. The print edition, especially, is all about the local ride community and I like to feature women that actually ride their own bike or ride with the husband/boyfriend and are active in the ride community. Send me some photos of yourself, your bike or let me know about a girl or a bike you’d like to see on the cover. I hope that you enjoy this months cover, Ruby Von Vanity photographed in front of CD’s Place in Boyertown. This is a great little place to ride to for a nice lunch so I hope you try it out. Since I’m not doing the Good Eatin’ column in the magazine these days I was happy to find out about this great place to eat and share it with you. I enjoy the 1950’s theme of the place and how could I resist photographing Ruby, she’s a real eye catcher. Now get your bike out of the garage and get out to some of these great events advertised in this months issue and in our calendar of events. Take a ride for a hot dog after a hard days work, just get in the wind. I’ll see you on the road!

Wyoming Valley Bike Show For the kids Story & photos by Norm Keller

It was the 15th Annual Wyoming Valley Motorcycle show to benefit the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association. It was held, as usual, at the Kingston Armory & presented by the Wyoming Valley MC www.wyomingvalleymotorcycleclub.org. The Kingston Armory is a great place to hold an event of this type as hundreds of bikers came out to do their part. This is the kick off event for the ride season in this area and despite the cool weather many showed up on their bikes, anxious to get a jump on some riding. Well represented by local riding clubs and organizations you could pick up flyers for upcoming events and purchase a bike raffle ticket. A local school was selling bike raffle tickets (Ask me what $5.00 can get you) and they got tremendous support from attendees, including myself. There was a bike show, with trophies presented, that drew a good selection of bikes to looks including several antique and vintage bikes. The windows in the buildings roof provided excellent lights to check out the bikes. Before the day was over there was a fashion show hosted by Pocono Mountain Leather www.poconomountainleather.com using local riders showing off some of the seasons best in ride apparel. Everybody stopped to enjoy the parade of leather and denim worn some of their friends. I haven’t been at this show for a couple of years but I was really glad that I had the time to attend it this year. It was great to see old friends and make a few new friends. This is not a high profile show, but it is a great little show and it benefits a worthwhile organization. Check out the rest of the photos on our website and you read about it here in the East Coast Biker magazine.

Step Back In Time With lunch at a CD’s Place story & photos by Norm Keller

So the ride season is here and you’re looking for new places to go. Here’s an idea, how about lunch at CD’s Place and take a walk in the past. Welcome to a less “complicated” time as you walk in the door of quaint little cafe located in Boyertown, PA. The memorabilia on the wall, the 45 records and the music on the juke box remind you of a time when your car didn’t rely on a computer and music came from records playing in a juke box. The food is anything from hot dogs and hamburges to a Roast Beef Asiago wrap. Vintage cars can be found parked outside as well as motorcylces. Welcome to the 1950’s. Model Ruby Von Vanity, who specializes in Pinup style modeling, which used to be considered risque in it’s time, graces this month’s cover with a custom built bobber by MCS Customs, also found in Boyertown. Ruby enjoys this period of clothing and stays true to her passion by dressing in vintage clothes found at used clothing shops and garage sales. Ruby and her sister own a bakery called Sweet Revenge where they satisfy your sweet tooth. Her tattoos started when she was 16 and her most recent one is of Marilyn Monroe. The bike, built with a 50’s theme, is a custom built softail from MCS Customs and boasts a frame from The Wrench and a 96 cubic inch S&S with a Revtech bottom. The over stated Ram Horn Apehangers were custom made by MCS as well as the fenders & struts. Add a Springer front end and little creative paintingg and you have one eye catching bike at any bike show or just sitting on the street. I hope that you’ll stop by CD’s Place and check them out. When you do, be sure to tell them that you read about them and Ruby Von Vanity in the pages of the East Coast Biker magazine. Oh yes, ask them about catering your next event. Good food at reasonable prices, you can’t ask for more than that.

PRESS RELEASE

2nd Annual Mehre/Zernhelt Community Benefit The Merhi/Zernhelt Community Benefit is an annual fundraiser which focuses on community and the Merhi and Zernhelt Families. On June 26, 2010 tragedy struck the community of Northampton, PA. Denise Merhi, her father Dennis Marsh, her Grandfather Alvin Marsh and their neighbor Steven Zernhelt were tragically murdered. Left behind were families and friends suffering a loss and a community in shock. In July of 2010, the Merhi Children’s Benefit was organized by a group of people who wanted to make sure memories of the victims were not forgotten. It was renamed the Merhi/Zernhelt Community Benefit in January 2011. The organizing committee decided that this benefit could impact the lives of others beyond that of the Merhi and Zernhelt families. The benefit was a success in 2010. None of this could have been accomplished without the help of the hundreds of organizations and businesses, as well as the bands and the 1,000+ people who braved the rain! The 2011 benefit is scheduled for Saturday, June 18th. It will include a motorcycle ride followed by raffles, food and beverage, as well as live music. Tri-Boro Sportsmen’s Club located in Northampton, PA will again, host the benefit. We are working on making this year’s benefit an even greater success. Your support is welcomed and appreciated. For more information please contact Rick Nauman at 610.762.5010 or Kim Glass at 610.360.3839 Sincerely, The Merhi/Zernhelt Benefit Organizing Committee

by Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352) LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com Given that riding season is finally in bloom, I want to touch on the topic of DWI/DUI as many riders will end up at destinations where alcohol is being served. I feel that it is my duty to inform all of you that the penalties for DUI/DWI are getting harsher and more expensive every year.

1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com www.cycleattorney.com

Though I have written on this topic in the past, it again merits discussion given the .08 limit in most every state. For many of us, this means that two beers or drinks in rapid succession will put us very close to the limit, especially if not ingested with food. While the penalties for a .08 to a .10 may not be terrible in some states, especially if it’s your first offense, two beers often leads to three or four and that’s when we start getting into trouble.

The penalties for driving under the influence vary widely from state to state however, in NJ, in most cases, a first offense will trigger a minimum seven (7) month license suspension and fines upwards of $1,000.00 plus attorneys fees. Adding insult to injury, if you are a PA resident charged with DWI while riding in New Jersey, you will not have the opportunity, even if it is your first offense, to utilize the ARD program usually offered to first offenders in PA and in most cases will have your license suspended for one (1) full year in PA. Normally first offenders in PA, not involved in accident, will be eligible for the ARD program which requires drug and alcohol evaluation and fines but rarely a license suspension. However, this program is only available one (1) time, after that, in PA if you are convicted of DUI within the next ten (10) years, you will do a minimum of five (5) days in prison and receive an automatic twelve (12) month license suspension along with extensive fines and penalties. If your blood alcohol is higher than .10 and you are charged with a second offense within a ten (10) year period in PA, the mandatory jail term grows to thirty (30) days, and another one year license suspension. Similarly in New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, for each subsequent offense, the fines, potential jail time and the license suspensions grow harsher with each offense. Now I know that every one of you reading this column understands that if you are convicted of DWI/DUI, there are penalties. However, experience has taught me that most of the public doesn’t understand how severe the penalties and license suspensions can be. Furthermore, unlike most other criminal offenses, there is very little room to plea bargain on a DUI/DWI, as most states have mandatory fines, jail terms and license suspensions. As a result, many clients are very upset when they learn that they may lose their license for up to a year, even for a first offense. Given that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, please be careful and if you know you may be drinking, a designated driver is always a great idea!!! I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or call us at 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352). Sincerely, LEE D. GABER, Esquire The one and only, “Cycle Attorney”

Ladies, Start Your Engines Women learn the fine points of riding Story & photos by Norm Keller

For too long many women have been content to ride on the back seat, watching the world go by as thier “significant other” enjoyed all the thrill of riding and control of the motorcycle. Not any more, many women are moving to the front seat and riding thier own motorcycle. Harley-Davidson has started a series of Garage Parties, for women only, to bring them up to speed, so to speak. The idea is that whether you want to ride on the back seat or command your own bike there are some basic things that you should know. I attended one of these parties at Dean’s HD located in Sellersville, PA to see just what is going on at these events. To my surprise I learned a few things myself. The night was organized by Randy Ziegler, Dean’s General Manager, into groups of interest. The women divided up and spent time learning something about helmets and gloves, while another group was learning about riding apparel and yet another group was learning some basic about maintenance and cleaning. Randy led another group on the differences on styles of bikes and how to pick a bike that is right for you. After spending time in one area they would rotate to another part of the store till all areas were covered. Half way through there was a break and some refreshments were served then the groups returned back to learning more. A demonstration was presented by Randy on how to pick up the bike should it happen to get away from you and fall over. The ladies found that with the right instruction picking up a bike is very easy. An excellent job was done by the staff at Dean’s and the ladies enjoyed getting away from the “old man” for an evening out. I shot some video which I hope to have finished and on my site by the time you read this so go there and check it out. The whole point of the evening is to gain some confidence around motorcycles. Whether you choose to ride on the back seat or ride you own bike you’ll find one of the Garage Parties to be helpful. Check with your local Harley-Davidson dealer to find out when they are having their “party” and tell them that you read about it in the East Coast Biker magazine.

Picking up a bike is easy when properly instructed.

It's a submersible, such distinctions, however, are lost on the general public. It travels underwater, it fires torpedoes, it sinks boats; it's a submarine, or it might as well be. Between the Ride there and back (200 Miles Total) and a tour of the USS Ling, expect to spend 6-7 hours out on the road. Starts at 10:00AM. Location: it's Nutz - 1382 River Road - Titusville, NJ 08560. Contact: Dave on a Vulcan, Email: DaveonaVulcan@gmail.com
