SELECTING THE RIGHT LAWYER Hopefully you never need the services of a motorcycle injury attorney, BUT if you ever do, unless you are represented by an attorney experienced in this complicated area of the law, you will be at a distinct disadvantage when having to deal with an insurance company or insurance company attorneys. Over the years we have we have recovered substantial amounts of money for our clients in counties throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We have references and our clients overwhelmingly say they are happy with our services. Results are important and examples of our injury recoveries include:

July 2012
We’ve already passed the mid-point in 2012 and there’s still plenty to do this year. If you haven’t yet posted your event for this months it’s never too late because our readers are always checking our online calendar for updates and new ride posting’s. Check out the calendar of events in this issue then go online and get maps & weather information. You can also email the event to a friend and you can even click to share it on your Facebook page or even Tweet it on Twitter. The weather has been great so far so there shouldn’t be any excuses not to get enough riding in this year. I know that last year many events were cancelled due to rain, but things are looking good for this year. July 4th is a great day of celebration for us. We celebrate our independence and what has made this a great country for more than 235. There’s always parades and fireworks to celebrate. I always enjoy spending time in the back yard cooking up some hot dogs & burgers then check out the local parade as it passes by. I hope that you take the time to remember what a great country we are fortunate to live in. For all of it’s faults I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else than right here. I plan on getting out to many events this year and I’m always looking for new events that I haven’t been to yet. It’s great to attend these events and see many of you, it’s meeting up with old friends and renewing acquaintances. The ride getting there and home is always nice too. So clean up your ride, put on your best t-shirt and get out there and enjoy the 2012 ride season. I hope to see you on the road and when you see me, be sure to say hello. Nazareth Bike Fest Hard work pays off in successful event Story & photos by Norm Keller
Getting an event off the ground for the first time takes a lot of work. When the Nazareth Chamber of Commerce decided that they would like to host a Bike Fest in downtown Nazareth President Tina Smith went right to work. All of the hard work paid off in May when the first Nazareth Bike Fest greeted hundreds of local bikers and merchants. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and the bikers came out to gather and enjoy a day of fun, food and fellowship with other bikers. There was a variety of vendors from local bike shops, ride clubs, Schoch HD as well as some local merchants offering non-bike related services. I always say that bikers are consumers just like everyone else.
Chamber of Commerce One of my personal favorite vendors was the Dreamville Retro Bake Shop President, Tina Smith from Bath, PA. This shop is owned by Jess who makes some awesome cup cakes and donuts, my favorite was a donut covered with maple syrup and BACON. Yes I said bacon and it was a pure delight to eat. I just spoke with Jess and she informs me that has just been activated and called to duty. She is an interrogator in the Army Reserve and will be heading out shortly possibly for overseas duty. Unfortunately she’s had to put the shop on hold so we won’t be able to get any of those great confections for a while. Keep in touch with her on Facebook @Dreamville Retro Bake Shop or she will continue her website www.dreamvillebaked.com. Nazareth is a great community for this type of event. It’s easy to find with access from a number of major highways in any direction. The downtown square was filled with motorcycles and attendees just lounging around enjoying the day talking with friends while a band provided some great music in the background. The attendance was great and all had a great time. I had the chance to speak with Tina Smith and she tells me that she has begun plans for next year to move the event to the park. I, for one, had a good time and I’m looking forward to next years event being even bigger. If you weren’t there, you should have been, but you did read about it her in the East Coast Biker magazine.

Memorial Day weekend capped off May’s activities in the tri-state area. Despite record breaking heat, riders were out honoring the memory of those who gave their lives for our country while enjoying the hot but sunny riding weather. Two groups of riders from Tri-State HOG went to Washington D.C. on Sunday May 27 to join the thousands of riders in Rolling Thunder to show support and concern for veterans and those missing in action. One group left the Delaware County area at 7:30am and another group led by Brad Alman left at 9:00am. Alman stated that they saw special musical guests and five commemorative custom bikes in D.C. On the way back Alman’s group stopped for dinner. The Ride for The Heroes was held to help wounded veterans and their families on May 20. The ride started at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield, Pennsylvania and ended at the Fraternal Order of Police Picnic Grove in Bedminster Township where the participants attended a party held for them. The run supported the Travis Manion Foundation which provides programs to help wounded veterans rejoin their communities, and give emotional support for their families and scholarships for their children. To start the riding season and to help the Muscular Dystrophy Society, hundreds of riders from around Pennsylvania attended the MDA Ride for Life XXV on May 5 and 6. Charlie Dresden, the Ride Coordinator for Hannum’s Harley-Davidson, led a group from the Media dealership to the Lehigh Valley Campus of Penn State University when the group joined the parade to Bethlehem to see street performers, hear live music and attend the closing ceremonies. Local groups were also active in May. The Delaware County Motorcycle Riders held rides or events three times a week in May which were available to any rider who signed up to join the group on the internet. I checked out the ride to Susuquehannock State Park held on May 17 since I had the day off from work, and all I had to do was drive to the Manoa Shopping Center only a few blocks from my home. The group formed at 9:30am and was ready to ride at 10:00 when Louis Rinaman outlined the route and explained the group’s riding procedure, since many of the participants never rode with another. I found the ride to be well planned with enough stops on the sixty mile trip to give everyone a chance to refresh themselves and to purchase a picnic lunch. I enjoyed how people were easy to talk with because they also shared my desire to meet other riders. My only disappointment was that there was only one other woman who rode her own Honda Shadow in the group. Rinaman led a challenging ride through scenic back roads yet got me home with time to prepare dinner. The Delaware County Motorcycle Riders gave me a good impression of using the internet to find others who want to ride in the area. Charlie Dresden, the Road Captain of Tri-State HOG and the Ride Coordinator for Hannum’s Harley-Davidson, planned several rides in May. He organized a ride to the Phillies Stadium to see the Phillies play the Padres on May 13. On May 20 he led a group to Atco, New Jersey to see the AHDRA/Screamin Eagle Performance Parts Northeast Nitro Nationals where bikes hit over 233 mph to race a quarter mile strip. Tommy Hannum, the owner of Hannum’s Harley-Davidson, participated in the drag races. On May 26 Dresden led a group to breakfast at Shady Maple Restaurant near Morgantown. To honor vets, Dresden also organized a Memorial Day Ride on May 28. A group of approximately 18 bikes and twenty seven people left Hanum’s Dealership in Chad’s Ford for Dresden’s one hundred mile round trip tour of Chester County. Women on Wheels’ Keystone Chapter Members of Tri State HOG at French Creek for their held its first official ride of the season after its Memorial Day ride. monthly meeting at Smaltz’s Harley-Davidson in Eagle on May 19. Claire Cahill led the group to Havre de Grace, Maryland for a lunch on the Chesapeake Bay. The 2012 ride season is off and running in the Tri-State area.

Trikes, a new vision Local builder takes a new direction in custom trikes Story & photos by Norm Keller
One of the fastest growing markets in motorcycles these days are trikes. They provide more stability and safety for riders who may need the comfort that a trike provides. Cale Mutter, MCS Customs, decided to add to his list of custom built motorcycles by building a custom trike. The trike is built from the ground up with Cale fabricating his own frame and suspension system. He wanted the trike to have a narrow rear end but more important, he wanted it to “Look like a chopper.” Trikes are traditionally hard to ride and harder on the corners. Mutter’s trike has a patent pending suspension that allows the bike to lean into the corners just enough to make it easier to ride. “You can adjust the air suspension on the fly to conform to different road conditions,” Mutter added. “Another advantage to our design,” he continued, “is the front end does not feel heavy and want to push you like a more traditional trike.” All of this gives you more of the feel of riding a motorcycle rather than something on three wheels. His first customer was Bob Powell, who helped with the contstruction on Mutter’s shop expansion a couple of years ago. Bob had an accident a while back which after the leg surgery he was left with screws in his leg and ankle. Thinking that his riding days might be behind him changed when he saw the latest project from MCS Customs. He owns several bikes but finds the ease of riding his new trike to easier and more comfortable “These trikes are made to fit almost anyone,” Mutter stated, “wounded warriors, riders with leg injuries or just your average Joe that wants something a little more awesome looking.” That is what Cale went for and just what he has accomplished in a small, family run business outside of Boyertown, Pennsylvania. For this month’s cover a friend of Bob & Cale offered her services. Holly says, “I’m a total Jersey girl. I live in Pennsylvania now with my boyfriend Dave and my two daughters Tatiana and Chloe.” Holly, who used to own a ‘71 sporster missing riding. She bartends at a private club, where she met Bob Powell and would like to thank them for asking her to pose on his cool trike. In the photo at the right, (from left to right) is Cale, Holly and Bob. You can get an idea of how the trike leans to provide greater stability.

by Lee D. Gaber, Esquire 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352) LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com
This month’s column is about choosing the best motorcycle to fit your needs. I recently came across an article which talks about choosing the best motorcycle and in giving their advice, they broke it down into the following criteria;
1-888-CYCLE-LAW LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com www.cycleattorney.com
1. Consider Your Needs: The author advises that you assess the practice of your riding; will you be riding in heavy traffic, long distances or only on weekends? For instance, if you are looking for a weekend toy, you might be tolerant of a sleek, but uncomfortable bike. However, if you plan on using your motorcycle to take you to work each day, you will need comfort, storage and durability.
2. Choose a Bike that Fits Your Body: Because of the infinite number of bikes that are available today, you must sit on, and if at all possible, test drive the motorcycle you intend on buying, The test drive, if allowed, will show you the ergonomic differences in the model you are testing and the contrast between what you expected and the “reality” of the motorcycle. When doing this, make sure you keep an open mind because regardless of what you think you want, if you do not chose the correct motorcycle, you will find reasons not to operate it. 3. New or Used?: This is a bigger question than most people realize because like with most automobiles, most motorcycle riders would prefer a new bike versus a used one. However, purchasing a new motorcycle often comes with a steep price. Buying a used motorcycle confers upon a beginning rider the luxury of not damaging something that’s showy. Most often used bikes are a better value since they have already depreciated. 4. Consider Your Long Term Budget: When preparing to buy a motorcycle you need to realistically estimate the expenses you will encounter from its operation. This means more than simply buying the motorcycle and estimating what maintenance will cost. In my mind what this means is, before you purchase a motorcycle you should call at least two to three different insurance companies and get estimates of the cost of properly insuring the bike. The reason this is so important is because I have had many clients spend between $3,000.00 and $30,000.00 and then when it comes time to purchase insurance, they have run out of money and end up purchasing the minimum required motorcycle insurance coverage. Then, we all know what happens next ……. an accident occurs and they don’t have collision, comprehensive, uninsured and/or underinsured motorist coverage and ultimately they find themselves without a motorcycle, nor the means to be compensated for their injuries. In summary, the article suggests that when looking to purchase a motorcycle, you don’t do so hastily! I would suggest that you think long and hard before making a decision of what motorcycle to buy especially if it is your first motorcycle. I would also suggest that prior to doing so you enroll in and take the motorcycle safety course if it is offered in your state. Then, once you become a licensed driver you follow the path that I followed, which is to buy a used motorcycle for a few thousand dollars, spend three to six months learning on it, and when you feel ready, shop for the motorcycle of your dreams. I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or by calling me at 1-888-CYCLELAW (1-888-292-5352).
Sincerely, LEE D. GABER, Esquire The one and only, “Cycle Attorney”

From Bikes to Vintage Cars
Franklin Township Fire Co. had it all Story & photos by Norm Keller I love custom built motorcycles and I love vintage & classic cars. Put them together and you get the best of both worlds all in one show. That is what the Franklin Township Fire Co., located outside of Lehighton, PA, did this past May. Special guest for the event was model & East Coast Biker cover girl Debbie D who added her own special brand of eye candy to the event. This weekend long event was divided over the two days. Saturday was bike day, with a bike show and trophies at the end of the afternoon. Vendors were on hand with biker accessories while local ride clubs offered information about who they are and rides they will be hosting. There was also opportunities to win a bike at raffles. Music was provided with accoustic guitar playing in the background as attendees strolled around checking things out. Sunday was classic car day, also with trophies presented at the end of the afternoon. There was a very brief sprinkle which sent a few of the cars heading for home but most of them stayed and there was no more sign of rain for the rest of the day. Looking over all of these great cars took me back in time to my first cars. My favorites cars were a ‘64 Chrysler New Yorker and a ‘68 Olds Cutlass W30 muscle car. Seeing these cars made me wish I had never gotten rid of those two which now would be considered classic. It’s always great to look at these cars of a bygone era. Music was provided by DJ playing rock and roll from the 50’s & 60’s as people walked amoung the cars taking photos. Look for some changes in next year as they take the motorcycle event in a new direction and you can be sure that the East Coast Biker will there and enjoying every minute of it, just as I did this year.
